- The correct geologic term is ''''temblor,'''' another term meaning earthquake. Posted by Sociopath2 at 01:17 PM : Apr 18, 2008
I think it is merely Spanish for earthquake (someone''ll have to check that) and there is a range of hills just west of the lower San Joachin Valley in Californa called the "Temblor Range". These hills are upwards of 5000 feet high and jump abruptly out of a several thousand square mile basin called the Carrizo Plain. Beautiful country (especially during wildflower season) but as desolate as anyplace outside of a true desert as you will find.
Earthquake heaven, too. A week doesn''t go by when someplace in the plain or immediately adjacent to it isn''t tweaked and rumbled at least once. The San Andreas fault runs smack dab along the eastern foot of the Temblors and it is here that that fault is most visible and accessible. I have stood in the middle of the thing and could literally jump from the Pacific Plate to the North American one and back in one or two bounds. - Reply to this comment
- No, not global warming but blaming it on Baby Bush is no a bad idea.
So the Madrid fault is rolling around in her average 300 year sleep.
Boom Boom rattle,rattle.
In the early 1800''s during Madrid Fault activity, the Calvinist knew that the second coming was in progress and one diary speaks about huddling in fear, endlessly praying, refusing even to eat so they wouldn''t commit sin in front of God who was just outside... - Reply to this comment
- Mother Nature letting us know she is still alive and "shaking". The extent of the tremors is tremendous. If a BIG one hits all that area, half the country, right out of the middle would be affected. Scary!!! I live about 50 miles from the Madrid Fault. They tell us we can expect one at anytime between now and 25 years from now. Looks like it is in my destiny.
