Lawyers For More Than 400 Children Taken In Raid Demand To Read Evidence
- How sad to see our nations narrow mindedness regarding people with a different lifestyle. Doesn''t anyone see that this step toward removing civil rights from such a large group of people is another small step to eroding the rights of mainstream culture? We have such high and mighty puritanical opinions. And now to find out that no child made that call, just some loon from Colorado Springs? Don''t any of us have compassion for those children? And as far as investigating abuse, maybe it would''ve made more sense to remove the Men and conduct interviews at the homes of the children. I''m so sick of the abuses of power in this country, I could just spit.
Does spiritual union imply ***? I don''t think so. - Reply to this comment
- Yes, Im sure that a great deal of that went on with this cult. However, under the laws of most states (and most certainly, Texas), not naming the father of your baby (so the state can go after him for child support, etc.) causes automatic denial of any sort of public assistance benefits -- other than perhaps help finding a job. I too heard that this sort of welfare scan was part and parcel of this cults However, it would have been very difficult for them to have done much of it in recent years.

The FLDS rig the system by either makng up a fathers name, or identifying a Jeffs or Barlow as the father, but the father has no assets, or job, as the Church owns all of the assets, including all houses and cars.
Also, the more-rigorous requirements put into place by the Clinton administration are largely for AFDC, and not food stamps and WIC.

No child, especially a female child, should be left in the care of a Woman who would allow these things to go on. When a MOTHER provides NO protection to a female child in this nation she no longer retains the right to be a Mother. Nothing new about that at all. Sieg Heil and Amen - Reply to this comment

- A child protection supervisor testified Thursday that she encountered several pregnant teen girls at a polygamist ranch who called each other "sister wives" and who believed it was acceptable to be "spiritually united" with a man at any age.
"It was the belief that no age was too young to be married," said Angie Voss, a supervisor for investigation at Texas Child Protective Services. - Reply to this comment

- We need to DEMAND DNA (cotton swab in the mouth) test be given to each baby born to a girl under 18, then DNA test the "spiritual husband". This will tell us immediately if there was Statutory Rape. They need to be charged with Rape or child molesting. The "mothers" who put their 13 year old daughters up for a fake wedding to an old pervert, then is accessory to Rape, and should also be charged - just like Warren Jeffs.

christains are all evil , its all a cult, they brainwash children to add to their ''flock'' when

- This cult needs to be investigated also for Welfare Fraud. They all sister wives who are not legally married collect welfare and claim they are not living with the father of their children. This is Welfare Fraud. The FLDS is famous for this. The Attorney General of the State of Utah said over 65% of FLDS members are on Welfare and collect cash cards for food stamps. They also have a Federal "manufacturing" contract for $1.2 million. We need to cut this cult off of our tax dollars. That will end their system of polygamy and control when their free tax dollars dry up.

- this is what happens when we let brainwashed christians
start their own schools and their own "compounds" (read that as prisons)
we wind up with mindless christian sheep instead of

- If, as you say, the Constitution is being followed, then why is polygamy not tolerated in America?

Polygamy has been illegal in the US for over 140 years. It is not protected under the First Amendment. The Supreme Court ruled that Congress could not legislate against opinion, but they could legislate against action. The Court said if they allowed polygamy for religious reason eventually someone would say their religious beliefs required human sacrifice. In their words, %u201Cto permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious beliefs superior to the laws of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself.%u201D - Reply to this comment

To acknowledge your first statement, that an easy road is being taken, is not true. An easy road would be to turn a blind-eye to the situation. That, thankfully, is not being done.
The real issue is the women/children. While the women have been victimized, some have managed to escape the polygamist group. However, there are children that do not have that option. Is our job, our Civic Duty as as you so brazenly stated, to protect these children. We have reason to believe that there is abuse. We can play around with allegations/legalities, but the fact remains that the odds are in the favor of children being taken advantage of.
This case will be long but at least its being dealt with. There are numerous other sects where children are being abused/pushed out, unprepared, into society.
Youre right Sudnah, there is going to collateral damage. Generations of it. It does not matter `who likes who`. What matters is that measures are being taken to protect them. This is no different than any other segment of society. The problem is that these childrens lives are being disheveled by those who are supposed to protect them.
This is going to be long and not pretty. People will be hurt and sadly most of them will be children.
No one is keen on changing `these people`. What people are `keen` on, is protecting those who are unable to protect themselves. Furthermore, I dont believe that engaging anyone in a Wal-Mart conversation will aid the matter either. - Reply to this comment

- Pedophilia is indeed a crime, so if someone is guilty then convict them.
Many a catholic priest has been a pedophile... what should we do with all those catholic boys and girls? - Reply to this comment
- The CPS did not take those children out of the compond because they only had a 16 year olds allegations. When there is a allegation of child abuse they HAVE to investigate. When they investigated they found other evidence of abuse. So finding this evidence CPS was under an obligation to protect the other children.
Sometimes CPS can go overboard, but the judge and lawyers will protect the rights of the children and parents. So the children and parents are getting a hearing and their chance to be heard. Legally that is called due process, just waht the constitution requires.
So all you conspiracy nuts can relax, the consttution is being followed - Reply to this comment
- Pedophilia is a crime not freedom. The kids are where they should be. Hopefully the wheels are turning to prosecute and imprison the adult "parents".
