- This shuts down a psychiatric ward and the American Psychiatric Associations willingness to discuss normalizing pedophilia in May of 2003 doesn''t? What a commentary on today''s society.

- jamesm: I just bet when you get to the age you are going to pass on collecting SS benefits, that liberal hand out. You are amazingly ignorant. If you work, I bet you get health benefits (if you don''t that explains a lot about the chip on your shoulder). Well, the VA is a military service health benefit, if you can call it that. I suppose these men and women are supposed to have private ins. at the cost of their minimum wage salaries. (yes, minimum wage. they are on duty 24/7, subject to duty at any time, for any lenght of time. Deployed troops are working 20 on and 4 off). We are spending billions of dollars to wage a war and cause the casualties, be nice if we at least tried to fix them.

- 6,256 veterans committed suicide in 2005. These numbers and the suicides for 2006 and 2007 should be added to the death toll for the war. Tell me bush/cheney, how do you sleep at night, go fishing, greet the Pope with a smile on your faces, live without guilt and nightmares? I cannot believe you are actually able to function with the blood on your hands.

- The most effective treatment for PTSD to date is the earliest possible professional intervention and counseling. When a person has been traumatised and is reaching out for help, only to find denial of the fact on the part of our goverment, these are the kinds of things that manifest themselves. These brave soldiers are not mentally ill, they are injured through no fault of their own. Please bear this in mind when posting as PTSD can happen to anyone in or out of a war zone.

- I think that George W Bush is mentally ill and needs to spend some time in one of these places. No other President has been so out of touch with the American Public or Reality then George W Bush.

- I have to say, this sounds very unusual?! Why are so many vets committing suicide at this hospital?! Just offhand, he''d be curious what sort of monitoring protocols they have in place---are they being followed? What''s happening here? It sounds like some type of hospital procedure-type breakdown to me!

- The VAMCs need to be overhauled..I am not a vet..Vets are in my family..Vets are not getting the care they need..I KNOW A VET WHO TOLD THE HOSPITAL TO LEAVE HIM BE..He was in hospital and it was awful as he kept in touch with me by phone and I be on computer..He was asking for a glass of water..Just a glass of water and hours later he got it..hours..How many vets are pushed in to bad care..I was visisting a VAMC and had to use the rest room for us ladies.. I had no idea the loo was unclean...I am legally blind..I had some med to put on the area of my buttom..I was pissed..I won''t use a public rest room..after that..That was in the 90s.

- I have said this all before in post on this site, but I guess it bears repeating. I am a Vietnam vet, and spent 18 years in the military. I was wounded in Vietnam by a mortar attack, and also suffered other debilitating injuries after Vietnam, in which my back was broke in three places, and my knee tore out of it''s socket. I have had numerous surgeries on my knee and back, as well as other surgeries due to the conditions caused by those injuries and my exposure to Agent Orange. I am presently being treated for prostrate cancer, and if things go well with that two more surgeries, one on my neck, and one to repair a hernia that is the result of surgery I had to take out 21" of my colon. I draw 100% from the VA, and have not been able to seek gainful employment for the last 25 years. Because of that I am completely dependent on the VA for all of my medical treatment, and the main hospital that I use, is one where 13 veterans died in the past two years because of inadequate medical care. (Google Marion IL VA for more info.) If any one here believes that we veterans get the care we were promised, or deserve, you are fooling yourself.
