"crickergirl: you must not have been following this story for very long...."
posted by PDF572

erra PDF572??

She calls herself "Cricker", which implies that she''s from "Short Creek" which just happens to BE Colorado City, AZ. (LOL)

She''s also right. I know a few people from the Creek myself and I can tell you that most are the finest, hardest working, humble, god fearing people that you''ll ever meet, but.....

What they''re doing is still wrong. So wrong, that if most people knew what these people were REALLY all about? They wouldn''t be coming to Texas, the Creek and the rest with buses and cars...but rather tanks and bulldozers.

Their religious conviction and lifestyle is totally unacceptable in our country and needs to end.

The outside world isn''t nice, but it''s preferable to the psycho creep the girls lived with.

watcher269: as much as I would love to be able to lay this at Bush and the ultra-conservative, violent feet of some states, Texas isn''t alone. Unfortunately, this offshoot of LDS has been in northern AZ/southern UT for decades. Recently and about time, AZ finally went after the leader, Warren Jeffs, for crimes against children, welfare and tax fraud, among other crimes. I am actually a little surprised TX acted at all.

Gawd, it is so tiring dealing with this liberal holier-than-thou attitude from the bi-coastals.

Now who is using a wide paint brush? You are doing what you condemn.

crickergirl: you must not have been following this story for very long. It isn''t the actions of a few. This is fundamental to their religion, which isn''t mainstream LDS btw. Young girls marry older men, school ends between 6-8th grade, state welfare supports the children, younger males are excommunicated so they will not be competition to older male leaders when it comes to child rape, just to name a few. Check out Colorado City, AZ.

tracymorg...any chance to make another ridiculous connection between bad acts and liberalism. This is stretch even for you. Liberals pushed for child welfare laws while conservatives yelled what happens in the home is none of our business, children and wives are property, and men will be men. You can look that up.

holmantx: sounds like you have a personal agenda here. Did you have a bad experience with an accusation? Because, otherwise I cannot understand that you would make your comments if you have any knowledge of this group. I see others have provided you with real facts and resources you have chosen to ignore, furthering suspicion you are defending yourself maybe.

"This is simply a bunch of pedophiles who have managed to form a "religion" in order to satisfy their sick needs. We are so brainwashed that all "religion" is good that we shy away from the real truth. The basic teachings of religion are good but unfortunately they have been twisted into whatever shape was necessary for men to achieve their ultimate goals...whatever they might be." Postes by Element51

You are semi-right - however, it sounds like you were painting this with a pretty heavy brush - not all religious teachings are twisted around. This kind of activity, though, makes non-believers froth at the mouth and say "See-them Bible-thumpers are all nuts and crazy and perverts and, etc."

Most Christians (and Muslims and Buddhists and etc.), if they are TRULY following the teachings of their faith, are peaceful and kind and loving and SERVE their fellow man. It''s the extremists and people who try to hide behind a religion to perform acts of terror and hatred and perversion - those are the ones who most need a jail cell with a roommate named "Big Bubba".

Once again gateway1, you are soooo mistaken. They are from 2 communities that border AZ and Utah. Neither state could be called liberal. I know, I live in AZ. These communities were closed to outsiders, extremely conservative and their leader is in prison for, among other crimes, forcing a 14 yo girl to marry her older cousin. Are your politics so weak you have to make things up to promote your agendas?

This is the sort of immoral, not to mention CRIMINAL, activity that occurs under the rubric of "freedom of religion".

Most religions just engage in ignorant and delusional superstitious mind-control, but sometimes the fundamental "religious" tenets are simply antithetical to core human values. That is the case with these rogue cults. No organization which sanctifies arranged "marriages" of minors should be granted the status of religion, with all the perquisites that designation currently entails in America.

Secular authority needs to ensure proactively that no organization or group can practice any activity under the guise or "color" of religion that violates the law, or fundamental individual human rights.

This is a sick cult - and there should be no place in America where someone can set up their own community immune from our laws. The young girls are given to be one of many brides to old men - like it or not. The young boys are mostly thrown out to make sure there''''s enough young girls to be wives. The children work and are not taught much - they aren''''t supposed to be able to think. I''''m glad they''''re looking somewhat into this - but more needs to be done. Nowhere should someone be able to abuse children like this - both the girls and the boys need rescue.

All of this is more than adequately documented, you can see films from the very children, the discarded boys, the scared and abused girls. Enclaves where the law does not apply, where people cannot come and go freely, where the police are shut out simply shouldn''t be allowed to exist.
