If that estimate is even remotely accurate, and there are approximately 30,000 firearms related fatalities in the US per year, let''s assume that each fatality was caused with a different wepaon - that means that .012% chance of a given firearm being involved in a fatality each year. Um...maybe we should concentrate on banning sharks, rush-hour traffic, and lightning. - Reply to this comment

Got this thing called insurance. Far more than my state requires. Would feel bad about anyone being hurt with my car. But would feel even worse if they (the bad guys) were to get my guns. I think it would be a fight to get them, but crooks can be tricky! Again only my way of dealing, right or wrong. But thanks for the comment. - Reply to this comment
- Stop talking about gun control. There is NOTHING we can do. It''s too late. We have over 250 million firearms in the USA. The genie is out of the bottle.
The horse has left the barn. The train has departed the station.
Controlling guns is like trying to deport every illegal alien.
IT AIN''T GONNA HAPPEN. We''re a violent country/culture. Always were & always will be.
Good night & good luck. - Reply to this comment

Read slowly. If he''s not convicted, he''s not a felon. - Reply to this comment

Convicted felons are already prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. - Reply to this comment
- He''ll probably have to serve that suspended sentence now. I think shooting at state troopers is a violation of the parole kind of thing.

- Actually, dan, you don''''t realize it because you are so use to living in fear that you don''''t know what it''''s like not to. Well-adjusted people don''''t need to "know they have the ability to protect their lives" because they simply don''''t worry about it, it''''s not an issue.

Women, in particular, should be aware that they may "have to protect their lives" in any situation and know how to do that. Blighly going along thinking no one would ever harm you is distructive and dangerous thinking. Once you have a self defense plan in place, then you can "not worry about it." Not before. - Reply to this comment
- To gunownerdan: Thanks for at least being rational in this discussion, but I disagree with your interpretation of "well-regulated." In fact so does Webster''s Dictionary, which has a good reputation for word accuracy. Somewhere, and I have my unsubstantiated suspicions of where and by whom, it was decided to ignore this requirement. We have all had to alter our lifestyles and leisure time activities over the years, because of a changing world. So, once again, I ask you, as a person who thinks for himself, what type of restriction, targeted at the few irresponsible gun owners, would you be willing to accept in order to make this a safer country? Please be specific.
