- he sagging economy will "come out stronger than ever before" with the help of tax rebates from the recently enacted economic stimulus package. "
Yeah, a LOUSY $600 rebate, whop-te-do, for the majority of people thats not even one mortgage payment, one weeks paycheck for most people, the cost for one recliner or sofa, maybe a computer.
Most people will simply pay BILLS with it, since its not enough to do much more with. You want to stimulate the economy, try a rebate of last years TAXES, with that amount at least people can do something, but $600 is chump change. - Reply to this comment
- aheadace...I totally agree with you. Bush seems to think that six hundred bucks will solve all our problems. I think it''s kind of insulting. Kind of like being thrown a bone when the banquet is over. And they continually refer to the democrats as tax and spend. Try don''t tax and spend. Somehow that just doesn''t sound right. But the public is so unpredictable and just hate to be confused with the facts. These so called rebates will just raise the debt even more. Maybe bush can go hold the shiek''s hand again and get another loan.

- pakall....It looks like what the republicans and McCain are doing is listening to the democrats snipe at each other, studying the publics reactions then giving McCain the phrases that will play to the public opinion. It''s kind of like a boxing match. You have two people in the ring beating each others brains out and another guy standing just outside the ring watching. Then when the guys in the ring are about to go down he steps into the ring knocks them both out and raises his arms in victory. Kind of a silly analogy but the point is that the democrats are beating themselves up and McCain is benefiting. You know that the American people are experts in ignoring the facts and the past and that is exactly what is happening. They scream about Obama''s pastor but don''t say a word about McCain''s backers, Hagee and Robertson. Talk about two whack jobs! Clinton makes a dumb azz statement about being in a combat zone and they all scream liar, liar, liar. But no mention of the Keeting Five. The mainstream media are just a bunch of hors who will do or say anything. Then Faux News jumps in along with Limbaugh and Hannity and the circus is complete. Way to much knee jerk reaction and not enough searching for the truth.

- IOWEGIAN: "McCain stands to the side and is starting to say just the right things."
Which "right things" are those exactly? Saying that winning the war would "be easy" back in 2003? Saying the economy is fine here in 2008? The guy who refused to vote on a bill last year that would have overhauled mortgage lending practices? Who in 2005 refused to vote on a bill restricting predatory mortgage companies? Mr "I hate lobbyists" whose bus is filled with them - some actually working out of his campaign bus itself?
I agree with you, "Right things" is a good phrase, ''cause it''s just what the Right wants. - Reply to this comment

Whose economy? It goes on Bush''s tab, that he plans on handing off to the children, ensuring that THEIR economy tanks. (cuz he always cuts taxes but not govt spending). - Reply to this comment
- Here you go Mrs. Al Salem. I used my tax rebate from George Bush to buy you a Guatamalan baby to replace your daugter that was killed with napalm. Almost a perfect color match and a year supply of powdered milk and a bottle.

- What are they supposed to do with the 300 dollars? Buy an Guatamalan baby to replace the ones you killed in Iraq?

- There''s a difference between confidence and delusion. The government doesn''t have the power to create a recession any more than they have the power to cure it. It''s like curing global warming with more legislation.
Look folks, this recession was brought on because we spend too much money. Now we can''t make our credit card payments, so demand crashed. The government can''t fix the problem. They think spending is the solution. The real answer is how much we save. The dollar is only as good as the production that backs it. If we spend more than we produce, then we have an inflation problem, i.e. credit card debt. Unfortunately, we''ve spent so much time building this house of cards, we forgot that it has to fall sooner or later. That 80,000 in credit card debt is actually 100% pure inflation. In order for our dollar to go back to normal, we need to pay off the debt with real money and stop spending more than we make. Think about that next time you go to the gas pump. - Reply to this comment
