"What do they mean tower cranes or operators are licensed? What are they nuts? In a lot of states you need to be licensed for a forklift!" Posted by mainemade at 07:29 PM : Mar 25, 2008

It''s like this mainemade, the states you are talking about are those awful "red states" where Democratic state legislatures spend their days amusing themselves with senseless regulations that just serve to impose costs on legitimate businesses, etc, etc. Of course, the regulations also help save workers'' lives and stuff, but if you''re a "true conservative" you don''t let that color your thinking.

Has anyone done a study on worker injuries in red vs. blue states?

Shame on us America. What has become of the old adage, "American Can!" Take back your jobs, keep your Guilds and Unions strong and forthright. As Jesus was have said to say: "Honor Labor!"

Looks like I picked a good time to get out of the Ironworking biz. And if you keep taking from the good ones, all you''re going to have left are the dumb ones. And this will keep on happening. Good luck, America. I don''t know who''ll re-build you, but it won''t be me and it won''t be done right. Adios.

When was this site last inspected? In recent years, it seems that there have been more construction-related and industrial accidents like this one. Too many resources sent abroad, not enough at local inspection dollars at home to protect our workers'' safety when they are engaged in dangerous activity.

Boston1954 - you seem to forget the crane that
collapsed on Boylston St. a couple of years ago during
the construction of a building for, I beleive, Emerson
College. Soneone in a car it fell on was crushed.
This took place in the summer of 2006.
