- I can''t believe you guys, why can EVERYONE else have their opinions except Christians? So we want to follow what the Bible says, The HOLY Bible, why can''t we? What''s wrong with that? The Holy Bible is God breathed, it''s His word for us, it''s the only true word from HIM. How come everyone else can follow their gods except us? I think before you make all your little comments you should read the Holy Bible and study it first, I would suspect you would have a different comment, and perhaps feel like a heel for making the original comment.

- Welcome back to the 12th Century, folks! All of our social advances are being flushed down the toilet, now that we''ve rediscovered our religious roots. I wonder what''s next. Crucifixion? Stoning? Burnings? Doesn''t anyone have any backbone? Why DO people bow to every authority, without thinking? God gave you a mind. You''re supposed to USE it. I''m disgusted.

They just called God by a different name the way I see it. The more that folks stray from the rules that God has set for us to live by,....the more vicious they become. Our nation is sadly on that path. I believe it started here with folks in church reading out of so called Bibles that have all kinds of verses missing. The next generation of church goers start reading out of a "new and improved" bible that is worse than the last one. Swiss cheese bibles I call them. So the end result is they no longer follow what the Bible says, but what someone says the Bible says. It is the same road the Pharisees and Sadducee''s followed that made them crucify their Messiah Jesus Christ.......Modern day churches are heading that same direction. Jesus even warned me that the day would come when those that slay me will think that they are doing God a service.....Sound familiar?

- Paul''s statement was not about theology it was about culture. Paul was a Roman, Roman women had few rights.
His writings about women not cutting their hair, not wearing jewelry, not speaking in church, not teaching men were addressed to the Celts. In Celtic culture women dressed with style, wore jewelry, owned property, generally spoke up and out whenever they wished and went to war.
In effect, he was imposing the severe Roman culture and his personal values on people who were doing rather well as they were. A missionary flaw.
Personally, I think he was threatened by those tall, armed women. He probably said in an aside to Timothy, "we gotta put a stop to this." - Reply to this comment

There was no room for manipulation of the masses in ancient dogmas.

I agree that "modern" dogma is used to extract power and wealth from the masses, but primitive people have been following the teachings of "god" for at least two thousand years, and they''ve always used it as a way to keep people in line with what they wanted them to believe.
I don''t dispute that SOME primitive people did believe in multiple gods, (American indians, Greeks, Romans, etc.), but the ones that invented "god" and wrote the original christian bible, were hardly savvy intelligent individuals. - Reply to this comment
- cfin5, I''m glad you are a responsible father and husband but my point is that a family with a mother and father in traditional roles does not a perfect family make. I feel like my family is great the way it is and a man would not be an improvement...winning the lottery would be an improvement. Even when a family does have a mother and father in tradtional roles, that could change at any time with the death of either one and then "job titles" would change too.

Precisely - but don''t tell that to a bible banger. Their reality isn''t based on little things like facts, evidence or independent thought. It''s all wrote dogma with their bigotries and hatreds blended in for good measure. It''s a huge security blanket for them... threaten that, and you either start donating to televangelists, become a jihadist, or call everyone that doesn''t fit your tiny vision of the universe a "tree hugger" or a "liberal" or a "hippie" because it reinforces your own personal view of your superiority.

- Based on a verse in 1st Timothy in which the Apostle Paul says, "I permit no woman to teach or have authority over a man."
This could very well be mistaken for a line used by Archie Bunker. For all we know the Apostle Paul, was smoking weed when he said this. The idea man and woman are to strive for is to make each generation better than the one before. This requires us to move on, progress as a society, and evolve from the ancient to the new. If and when there are no *** left from these murdering preaches, women will be returned to their place from the writings in a book, that were collected during an era when men wore toga''s and would sit in the sun, fasting until they received a divine image or message. - However to infringe on the faith of anyone, anyone at all, especially when there is written precedent for the move the institution made, is a travesty against the freedoms granted us by GOD. Everyone wants to scream about the discrimination factor, but I can say that if I were her, I would have chosen another institution from the get-go. She is obviously free to do that.
Everyone must remember that we get our freedom from the fact that we are human, creations of God (as mentioned in our Constitution), not because the government of the United States of America says we are free.

Secondly, NO WHERE in the US Constitution, is "god" mentioned - not even once.
Third, "god" doesn''t grant freedom or liberty - The US constitution does. "God" decrees that you live under his rules and authority, and NO WHERE in the bible does he "give" you freedoms or liberties to do as you please.
Fourth, there is no "written precedent" as you claim - at least it isn''t mentioned in this article.
Fifth, she was hired BEFORE the president that tried to fire her. If she was good enough to be hired in the first place, then why wasn''t she good enough to be kept on? Did she do something related to job performance, or is this just discrimination? - Reply to this comment
- As far as the female professor not receiving tenure at the Theology School because a bunch of men don''t believe women should teach their kind...I think it''s a crock. Why was she hired in the first place? A bunch of holier-than-thou men didn''t want her to have tenure so they came up with this lame excuse. She should appeal and win!
