I have a dregree in criminology with minor in psychology. I do not advocate taking guns away from l;aw abiding citizens. I do advocate harsher penalties for the criminal element. I do not believe in rehabilitation. It does not work for a major percentage of convicted criminals. Prison does not alleviate the problem except to keep the offenders away from law abiding citizens for a period of time. I do not have all the answers to solve the problems of crime but do not believe taking guns away from law abiding citizens does any good, it only makes them more accessible to criminals. If a criminal thinks he might get shot then he will look for a target that offers less threat to him.

I have a degree in criminal justice and 15 years experience in law enforcement. This man was a convicted murderer who had already served 14 years for a previous murder. Therefore gun laws had no effect on his decision to kill again. I strongly advocate background checks for purchase of handguns, mandatory training for owners so they know how to handle a weapon properly, and believe in the right to own guns for personal protection. Las Vegas has a policy when you move there you are required to bring in any handguns you own to the police station to register them. They do a balistics test on the spot and return the gun within a few m,inutes with a card saying the gun is registered to you. I think this is a good policy. I also like being able to get a opermit to carry concealed. People kill people, guns are just a tool used, if they do not have a gun and want to kill you they will find another way, and criminals do not care about what is legal and what isn''t.

It''s far too late to do anything about guns in the USA. Nothing we can do now. We created our own monster & we''ll never be able to kill it.

Stronger gun laws would NOT have prevented this or the STABBING of the kids. It wouldn''t have prevented the FIRE that was started to cover up this horrific crime. Regardless of what this Cecil Dotson had for a criminal past, that doesn''t make this trajedy ok. Remember when you are having your silly battles of words about laws, politics and any thing else you all fight over that CHILDREN died here and three other CHILDREN are having the fight for their lives!

"I realize to the public outside the hospital it may seem that these children are being deprived of important relationships that would be very important to them right now.

The best thing for these children is to be as far away from these individuals as possible, there were/are no important family relationships.

And as the "sh[it]" hits the fan scum crawls from the woodwork with their doe-eyed innocence, they can''t believe this has happened, "B.S.".

The brother had served time for second degree murder, Cecil Dotson had a long criminal record, as did other members of this house, and to top it off Cecil Dotson was wanted on arm robbery charges.

I''m not surprised!

Jones added, "That''s not a brother. He''s just a cold blooded, cold hearted person."

They both were "cold-blooded/cold-hearted people, it''s no telling how many unsolved murders Cecil Dotson had committed.

the current gun laws did not prevent this animal from using a gun to kill. I don''''t understand why people think stricter gun rules would have prevented this?

Using this logic, we might as well let people carry around nuclear bombs. Nuclear bombs don''t kill people, people do.

But it is true that there''s something wrong in this country where murder rates are at least 10x higher (and in some cases 100x) than other industrialized nations... It''s probably the attitude that people feel that they should be allowed to do whatever they please ... like possess guns.

Removing the murderers from earth would be a better solution.

as it relates to people ... short of outright insanity ... it''s selfishness or self centeredness(ego). this is fed by greed, anger, jealousy, etc. people become scvmbags when solely driven by their own interests ... will justify all behaviour ... and it''s all good (as they see it) when it''s feeding their own need.

Cain did kill Abel because of jealousy. This incident sounds like the murderer had the same motive. I am deeply sorrowful for the parents of these two men. I pray for the parents and the survivors even for the murderer. However like Cain the blood he spilled onto the earth was required of him.

In fact all murderers have a requirement that they must fulfill, the blood that they spill. Not an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth. The sin of murder is unforgivable and an act that is unnecessary due to the motives.

Every murderer should be put to death..........All murderers.....Should be chased off of the face of the Earth.

What difference does it really make whether the killer was black or white. What a family tragedy this is. The surviving children are old enough to be scarred by this for life. And my heart goes out to the mother who has lost her grandchildren and one son who is dead and the other who is a two time killer. I don''t know how she can possibly bear this kind of sorrow. May God comfort her and show her how to forgive and extend unconditional love to the surviving son who will spend the rest of his life in prison or one day be executed for these murders. There is no end to the sorrows in this story.

The prison cemetery is getting full of stinking thinking killers that get their hands on guns. That is all they think about until they finally put themselves in the prison graveyard.

3 for 3 == Auburn + Chapel Hill Memphis!
Makes you wonder what all the fuss about profiling is about! Why is 10% of the population commiting 80% of the violent crime??
