Students Are Left Reeling After Dead Woman Is Identified As Popular Chapel Hill Honors Student

I was 16 when i shot at the burglar and had had no training with a handgun at that time. Since my training i have never taken a shot that i didn''t know where the bullet might end up. I have only shot one person since Vietnam and it was a case of him or me.I carried a top secret clearance during my military career so i doubt i will ever have a problem with a background check. - Reply to this comment
- parrot 2,
This is my last post to you until your IQ increases.
You do understand that the initial post said people here carry guns like wallets. When I post that I PERSONALLY have never known anyone who carries a gun, he then gives the CONCEALED GUN permit numbers. HELLOOOOOO.......if the guns are concealed, how does he know how many people are carrying them around?
Again, sure, you can talk, but just listen to yourself. - Reply to this comment
- ranger1948,
Don''t get started with schoollord/schoolmast1.
He thinks he is always right and anyone who disagrees with him is a pathetic idiot who is always wrong.
He constantly relies on stereotypes, insults, generalizations, falsehoods, and has shown immense bigotry and hate towards all gun owners.
That''s why his messages keep getting deleted by CBS. - Reply to this comment
- Ok CRICK whatever, you are a my way or the highway person. No one but you has the right to an opinion but I''m sure you''ll have more to say. I just hope you never have to come face to face with someone carrying a gun.

- crick1452...I also live in NC and I know MANY people who carry guns. I also said in a lot of areas I didn''''t say every area.

Yes, but we''re not talking about any area here other than CHAPEL HILL. So you were just making a generalized and hyperbolized statement unrelated to this story. I mean, 200-300,000 concealed gun permits in a state with a population of over 9 million? You really believe this small a percentage of North Carolinians ''carry wallets?'' Really, this isn''t hard to understand. Generalizations are generally (Heh!) the sign of a weak intellect with a weak argument. Again, please stop with the untrue sensationalizations. - Reply to this comment

I have a degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. As for th states with concealed carry permits the statistics show the crime rates have dropped drastically, while those without permits keep rising. I believe in restrictions, background checks, and proper training. I do not believe criminals care whether there is a law or not they intend to do what they want and live outside the basic laws established by society. I do not believe rehabilitation works for the most part and i do believe that prisons are just a higher school of learning for professional criminals. I do not know what the solution is but we can''t have these animals loose in society, where they have proven they will not conform to the set rules of society. - Reply to this comment

I do not follow the statistics, but a better question would be how many innocent victims were kiled by criminals with illegal weapons. - Reply to this comment
- wHAT SCHOOLMASTR1 MEANS IS HE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A SITUATION AND HAS NO IDEA HOW HE WOULD REACT. iF YOU HAVEN''T BEEN THERE YOU REALLY DON''T KNOW HOW YOU WOULD REACT AND I WOULDN''T ADVISE ANYONE TO GET A GUN UNLESS THEY ARE 100% SURE THEY WILL USE IT IF THE SITUATION WARRANTS IT AND THAT THEY ALSO PASS THE REQUIIRED GUN COURSES FOR USING THE WEAPON AND GETTING A PERMIT IF THEY WISH TO HAVE ONE. i DO NOT ADVISER ANYONE TO CARRY A WEAPON ILLEGALLY. aND FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES California does not recognize permits from other states or issue them in California to carry concealed by private citizens.

- Ranger1948. Nice story. How many people are killed every year by accidental shootings?

- It is a sad commentary on our society that there is no meaningful discussion of gun control. When you can''t get laws passed to control the spread of automatic weapons (that could never be used for hunting...other than people) there is virtually no chance that controls on handguns will ever happen. So I guess our only option is for everyone to pack a six gun! That will make us much safer!

- crick1452...I also live in NC and I know MANY people who carry guns. I also said in a lot of areas I didn''t say every area. Some of these people are family of police. I live in a middle upper class area and my son spotted someone driving down our street casing houses or cars and yelled at the guy. He stuck a gun out the window of his car and said get in your house or I''ll shoot you. I also have 4 members of my family that went to UNC so don''t tell me it''s safe haven. A lot of people carry gun here whether they have them legally or illegally.
North Carolina CONCEALED Handgun Permit Statistics by County
12/01/1995 thru 09/30/2004
The number of permits issued, denied and revoked do not equal the number of applications due to applications being processed
Total 263,102 1,274 denied
Now these are for concealed handguns and these are the legal ones not counting the ones that stupid thugs have that are stolen. - Reply to this comment
- This girl was not murdered by some thug, black or white. She was murdered by her married faculty member sugar daddy after she threatened to tell his wife about their relationship.

I raised my children on the proper handling of firearms and they are all experts with them. They do not have emotional problems so i am not worried about them committing suicide. I taught them self defense and how to live off the land. As to a criminal getting to my weapon before i do, i would seriously doubt it. Since Vietnam i have been able to sleep light enough to hear a key being put in the front door. I have only confronted a burglar once and i was only 16. I missed his head by about 1/4 of an inch. My parents were not burglarized again for 20 years. As far as training to get a concealed permit you have to pass a background check and pass a firearms course. I have never had a problem with that either. - Reply to this comment

- They carry guns in a lot of areas in NC like most people carry a wallet. Every day you read about shootings etc like big fricken cowboys.
=======================
You have no idea what you''re talking about. I''ve lived in NC all my life and have never known ANYONE, other than law enforcement, who ''carried a gun.'' Carrying a gun is illegal here. Please, stop making up the stories. Not to mention, this took place in CHAPEL HILL, NC--better known as BERKELEY EAST. - Reply to this comment
