Of course and I agree. There is a time and a place, and clearly this isn''t it.

LindsayB44,

I would consider someone like you a potential friend because you appear to have a good heart. So, this is not directed at you. We don''t have an open forum anywhere to discuss the race topic. It will not go away by not discussing it. Is this the appropriate place? Probably not. I don''t want to belittle this tragedy. I will end my discussion on race here. But, our nation is not fully healed. Denial is not helping for it to go away. There is still a lot of work to be done.

I think it was clockwork actually, but no harm.
I was just saying that we don''t need to attack each other. this is an argument, thats fine.

yes, I see your point, but most people don''t have daughters as attractive as these women. Americans are fascinated by pretty people, this is obvious. But when it carries over to murder cases and their national attention, this just gets to me and I draw the line.

Yes,
but this is because I have seen plenty of news coverage of people who weren''t attractive or who were of a minority. It isn''t all white beautiful people on the screen its everyone. I feel for them equally and I don''t see why people think that media is any different. Yeah, this week it is a white female who happens to be attractive. What about next week?
It will be reported if it is newsworthy. This is a school shooting we are talking about. Even if it doesn''t happen on campus, parents are concerned, they want to hear about this. Students are concerned, they want to hear about this. Race did not determine this one guys. Maybe it has an affect sometimes... but not this one.

clockwork86,

News, unfortunately, is entertainment. 60% of the news watching population do not identify with people living in the hood or a barrio. They see this girl and think of their daughter. This builds empathy. This promotes ratings.

I think that is what it boils down to.

Umm, because comparing minutes is crazy and weird. And a long time ago the news was becoming the rodney king station. a few months ago was the jena 6 station. whats the point !

I saw the Memphis story and it made me sick. It is truly terrible and like this one shouldn''t have happened. And I am not saying that racism has ended. It is still out there and it is ugly as ever. I saw what was said at the bottom of the other story. I am saying that this is not about racism and I do not understand why that is the first thing people comment upon. Are there not more important things that people should be focusing on right now?

newskinnebul,

Where did I call you a name?

Murder has existed as well and is part of human nature. If we justify racism as such, where do you draw the line?

This girl was fatally shot. I don''t get your analogy.
