Cops: Gunman In Jacket And Tie Opens Fire Without Speaking, Killing A Firefighter And Himself
- This is tragic. I am so sorry for the families involved. Losing a loved one to violence is never easy, I would imagine. I offer my deepest condolences to each and every one.
As for those who are calling for a ban on privately owned guns; I don''t believe that will happen. There are too many people who own guns, and gun owners vote, too. Keeping a firearm is a big responsibility, using one is an even bigger responsibility. The majority of us who choose to keep and bear arms have the right to do so. When a firearm is used improperly it always leads to talk of banning them, which is never a good idea. It removes a valuable tool from the hands of those who take responsibility for their own defense.
It has been posted on here that the majority of Police retire without ever using their weapon. This is true, since the Police usually arrive after the crime has been committed and the criminal has left. - Reply to this comment

- "American Citizens are prohibited from acquiring, possessing, and carrying firearms and ammunition, as well as truncheons or stabbing weapons. Those now possessing weapons and ammunition are at once to turn them over to the local police authority.
Firearms and ammunition found in a Citizen''s possession will be forfeited to the government without compensation. Whoever willfully or negligently violates the provisions...will be punished with imprisonment and a fine.

- If someone is going to do something like this they will find whatever they can to do it. If he hadn''t had access to a gun he may have used a bomb and then more people would have died. Guns don''t kill People Do

- One thing I have learned over time, is that the anti-gunners don''t like it when gun owners have FACTS to back up their statements. They only use emotions, and not facts. If a person wants to kill people, they will find a way if they have a gun or not. Look at all the people who were killed in Africa recently with machetes. Has there been a world wide called to get rid of that weapon ? If a person does not like guns, that is their right. But I perfer to protect my family with one, and that is my right. In Michigan the people who have gone thru a background check and got their concelled weapons permit have committed almost 0% crimes.

- "maybe you should look at the crime rates in the states where concealed carry is not available or almost impossible (MD,NY etc.) the crime rate is out of control." posted by Dover68
It doesn''t matter, it is out of control everywhere. Just because ONE state has strict control, it means nothing. All those people have just gone to the next state to get one! It isn''t like you have a barricade to stop people from going to the next state. There isn''t a border crossing they have to go through.
And this business of "concealed carry is not available", what a joke! That just means they can''t carry it on them doesn''t it? They can still have it in their homes, can they not? And how many are listening? How many kids are getting ahold of them? How many burglars and getting them? - Reply to this comment
- Benst1 You are right, you can have your very own Select-Fire (full auto to schoolliar) IF you have the $$$. An AK-47 will run you about $15,000 plus the Tax Stamp, Photographed and finger printed plus the time it takes to aquire it 3 weeks to 6 months. The National Firearms Act (NFA)of 1934 made it against the law to have an "UN"registered Machine Gun, punshable by 10 years imprisonment and up to $250,000 fine (Usually both). Those people who do own them are''''nt the one that are going to s*crew around with them. In 1986, Congress passed by voice vote only the law preventing the manufacture of NFA weapons for sale to civilans, and the Firearm owners protection act. There has only been one incident of a registered machinegun used illegally. It was stolen by a cop, (not from a cop) and used in drug crimes commited by said cop.

- To all of the people who don''t favor allowing law abiding citizens of the U.S. who are lawfully able to carry a handgun, maybe you should look at the crime rates in the states where concealed carry is not available or almost impossible (MD,NY etc.) the crime rate is out of control. In recent years we have seen how well "gun free" zones areas have worked out (Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, NIU). Carrying a concealed handgun comes with an incredible amount of responsibilty, but I would rather deal with the responsibilities and have the ability to protect myself and my family, then to wait for the police to be dispatched and make it to the scene, then figure out who is the bad guy. I hope that I NEVER get placed in a situation where I have to draw my firearm from it''s holster and take another person''s life, but I am willing to make that decision if it comes up. A quote that says it all "When seconds count, police are only minutes away." I have the utmost repect for law enforcement and the job they do, but they can''t be everywhere. For those of you that choose not to protect yourselves, that is a choice you have made, and you have that RIGHT in AMERICA, but I have chosen to follow the guidelines in my State and apply for the right to protect myself. I am a law abiding citizen. You have made a choice to rely on protection from the an individual or small group of people that may or may not be there at the moment you need them. I hope it works out for you.
