- It is a drop in the bucket for what the oil companies are actually making. But then the Democrats never were ones to actually TAX big companies, they just TAX the hell out of the middle class and hope the poor people still vote for them.

That statement makes no sense whatsoever.
What is the basis for it? Evidence? Proof? - Reply to this comment
- Oh good. Now the oil companies will make their product even more expensive to pay for the new taxes imposed on them by our government.

- "The White House said the bill unfairly takes aim at the oil industry. President Bush is expected to veto the legislation if it passes Congress."
Of course he''s going to veto it!!
His whole presidency has been based on *** the middle class in an effort to make money FOR the big oil companies, pharmaceuticals, military industrial complex, etc, etc.
Do you think he''s going to stop it now? - Reply to this comment
- The money collected over 10 years would provide tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy sources and for energy conservation.
I keep hearing the scenario of fear mongering by the Oil tycoons & PR. That by taxing our beloved conglomerates that Mr. & Mrs. America are going to take a hit.
Well, the reality is, that We''re the ones that have been taking a HIT since the Jimmy Carter days when they bribed the Media & politicans into buying into that mind set. They been given a free pass while the rest of us have been struggling to heat our homes, keep our children fed & clothed.
The more they pound us out here in the real world the more the Government should be allowed to tax them. Then if the Congress can get it right use it use it to help the poor, elderly, sick & ill, new born, & save the planet.
Its been over 30 years since the days of Jimmy Carter. The people have been patient and been waiting for The Big Oil & Energy Companies to come forward & show a little respect for Mr. & Mrs. America. Instead, they laugh about how they incurred excessive profits during the hard times, Katrina, Desert Storm, Iraq, Terrorist Bombings.
Now the rest of Corporate America is getting on Board with Big Oil in ways to bilked their customers. It makes a good story and sells paper but I believe the press, media, & congress are paid well by the oil lobbyists. I''ll believe it when I see it. - Reply to this comment
- ne_patriot7,
The refining could become relevant if they would allow a pipeline. Like i said before the american companies would fight it, because everytime they tried to cry shortage because of changeovers you could just tap that pipeline and make up the difference.
The other thing is the way things are going noew chavez will not be in power forever. With the amoun of oil they have it would be practical to start improving the relationship now instead of later. - Reply to this comment

- "Ordering gas over the internet from Venezuala is not practical, "

I do hope you realize that statement I made about ordering gas over the internet was me being fascitious.
Opening our markets would help, but this administration doesn''t deal with countries they don''t like.. As for Venezuela refining their own crude, irrelavent, unless they build a refinery in the U.S. I don''t believe refined gasoline is shipped over the seas, it''s too volatile. - Reply to this comment
- Let them not pay any taxes, However make them raise there own army''s to fight for there profits! Everyone wins.

- ne_patriot7,
Ordering gas over the internet from Venezuala is not practical, but opening the U.S. market and letting Venezuala have unfettered access to the market (we do brag about open and free trade all the time) would help the average consumer. Not only does Venezuala pump oil out of the ground, they refine it as well, so when Exxon or Texaco decide to cut back refining capacity Venezuala could step right in and ensure the supply stays high.
If Chavez could go direct instead of through so called American companies he would have the incentive to work with the U.S. market, not against it. Two years ago Chavez proposed to OPEC to keep production at a level that would keep oil at $50.00 a barrel. Guess who was against that proposal? - Reply to this comment
