FEMA has become a joke that nobody laughs at. As far as I can see (my opinion) it''s too little, too late. I would really hate to have to rely on them for anything. Initally I thought it was a good idea, but maybe this country has outgrown it. If that would be the case, I would be all for shutting it down, and turning it over to the states. It doesnt sit well with me to see people that really need help get caught up in all the red tape that the govt can use. I would hazard a guess, if a disaster ever hit Washinton DC there would be copius amounts of money and support

This is the same FEMA that had a phony news conference with their own people asking the questions posing as a press corp. Is there any wonder why?

I agree with you on California being the Welfare state; that''s why the illegals love us.

When did it become the governments job to provide for everyone during some disaster?

The welfare state will banrupt us all.

OH no, the California victims can''t possibly be complaining about FEMA. According to hate radio experts Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest, the only people doing that were the New Orleans people. The rest were just so much better quality of people than those New Orleans people.

Tsk, tsk, hate radio, wrong again.

I live in Ramona and was ordered to evacuate during the recent Witch fire. I did not lose my home. We were not allowed back home for about a week due to lack of water, so got a motel room at a reduced rate for evacuees. Upon returning home Porta-potties and showers were available in town as was bottled water for cooking and drinking. My insurance company would not cover the motel/food due to my deductible, which some insurance companies waived, but not mine. Upon submitting my receipts to FEMA for help they would only cover the days that were during the water outage which was the 3rd thru the 5th day. When asked why they wouldn''t cover the other days, they said "the guidelines had changed on Dec. 10th (the fire started October 21) and "they had no record of there being a mandatory evacuation" (which of course was all over the news) and "no record of road closures" (which there were, manned by armed military). My situation was nothing compared to a lot of others who lost their homes so I can understand the red tape they are up against.

Comments like yours amaze me because most of the country and the world lives in some sort of danger zone.

That said I just don''t know what else could be said. Get out and have some fun with people you might find that your neighbor needs help or maybe a friend that you forgot about. Anyway stop saying that you don''t understand. Let me see if this help.

The south faces hurricanes and fires, the west faces earth quakes and fires, the north snow storms and fires, the mid-west torrnados and fires and droughts, let me see that pretty covers the whole country or did I miss some one.

Would you like to try the world.

When you choose to live in RISK areas and something like this happens, you should be prepared to take care of youself. Insurance has gone sky high and the gov. can only help so much. Mountain areas and sea areas are lovely, but when you choose to live there, expect to have problems with high insurance and problems with FEMA getting trailers up the hills. Give me a break, I''m sorry your house burnt down, but you chose to live there and FEMA didn''t tell you to. Don''t blame the gov. for those problems.
