According to Foz News police are looking for the drivers who were actually racing, if anyone is to be charged I think it would be these two individuals who apparently do not want to be questioned by the police. I still say the people who were watching that race were wrong in being there in the first place. It also states in the article by Fox that a tractor trailer truck came upon the scene and may have struck someone, unable to stop as the driver of the Crown Vic was not able to stop and the spectators were in the road.

"And it has yet to be determined if the driver of the Crown vic had his lights on or not .."

WOuld be impossible to tell since the force of the accident and things hurling around insde could have flipped the switch off, even so, someone driving down the highway at 3:30 AM in the dark is going to have their lights ON, panicked witnesses who think otherwise probably didnt see the lights thru the black SMOKE and dust- its like a *** whiteout in a big snow storm with wind blown snow or driving thru smoke caused by burning grass see fields or a forest fire- you cant see 5 feet ahead of your bumper.

"Marion Neal feared her brother also was among the dead and was awaiting images from the police. "

Well... if he didnt come home or call, then what does that mean? answer: hes DEAD.

"I cant believe someone said the real victim here is the driver...give me a break...how retarded did that sound...he should have had his lighs on.

He is, you are assuming he didnt have his lights on, what makes you think he didnt? it was 3:40 AM and DARK, the video also said the drag racers were burning rubber creating a black cloud of smoke, and in the dark you cannot see a black cloud of smoke. you are driving 55 and suddenly hit a dark zone and cant see 5 feet ahead and suddenly WHAMMO you hit 8 idiots standing in the middle of the freaking road like deer.

the driver of the white car lost a passenger and his car, I say he has grounds to sue and those involved in the race should be charged.
Stupid idiots putting everyone else at risk for a stupid race.

The White Ford LTD that hit the people was not, I repeat , "WAS NOT" one of the cars racing. The LTD was merely using the "HIGHWAY" as it was intended and unexpectedly came upon a bunch of morons running out on the road to see who was winning. In my morning paper the police said they were still looking for the two cars that were racing.

So your position is that if the people were standing in the road @ 4 am and the alledged drag racers ahd just finished doing burnouts and filled the roadway with tire smoke ... then its the drivers fault for not seeing all the people ILLEGALLY ASSEMBELS in the middle of the HIGHWAY?

Well the last time I took a drivers test, it is ILLEGAL to walk in a public highway, as well as drag race on a public highway ..

And it has yet to be determined if the driver of the Crown vic had his lights on or not ..

I find it unbelievable that so many here are disregarding any personal responsibility of the foolish decision to go watch an illegal drag race and put thier loved ones lives in danger in the first place ...

Jeez, no wonder we let pedophiles/murderers out of prison only to repest thier sick crimes again ..

The driver of the white sedan had been interviewed and did not appear to be seriously hurt, but a passenger was among the dead, Police Capt. Donald Frick said.

They have since determined that the passenger was actually one of the pedestrians that came in through the windshield...
I''ve searched for updates to this story, but it seems that after the initial story they dropped it...

My daily newspaper makes more sense on this issue.

In the first place--IT''s A "HIGHWAY" not a racetrack.

The cars racing had just peeled out, raising tire smoke and dust, the 50 or more people then ran out on to the highway to see who was winning. The white Ford LTD then came up the "HIGHWAY" and was unable to stop.

In my newspaper the police stated they were not sure if the LTD had it''s lights on or not. They also were not pressing any charges at this time.

Who the hell expects a bunch of idiots to be standing out in the middle of a "HIGHWAY" just before day brake?

My paper also states that the passenger in the car was one of those that ran out onto the "HIGHWAY" and wound up in the car after being hit and crashing through the windshield.

This is an awful tragedy, but I can''t see any blame on the LTD driver. The picture of the car in my newspaper shows all the headlights broken on the LTD, besides I think these racing morons are looking for someone else to blame for their own stupidity.

Typical know nothing attack .... FOOL?

Actually there is no need to shoot chickens ... they were raised & beheaded on a chopping block with a hatchet ...

You seem to trivialize the fact that this country was founded and defended by weapons .. and a fundamental Constitutional right to bear arms ... if you dont agree then do a little research ...

As for your local market ... the food you buy from there is tainted with pesticides, hormones, genentically altered seeds etc .. all carcenogens ...

You seem hypocritical ... people needs cars .. cars are modified to drag race .. but the foolish, irresponsible ones CHOOSE to do it ILLEGALLY on a PUBLIC HIGHWAY @ 4 am .. putting innocent irresponsible lookie loos in danger ..

Kinda like purchasing a gun legally , then using it to commit a crime ...

I am not feeling your point?

Again, your position reiterated that stupidity has been around ....... for your entire life anyway ...

Every year tens of thousands are killed in car crashes.
If people didn''''t have these dangerous assault vehicles then all these lives would be saved!
We must protect our children by banning automobiles now!!!

I know subtle distinctions are not your strong suit, but cars have a legitimate purpose other than to kill. Also, it''s much harder, though not impossible, to use a car to kill a specific person AND to get away with it, which is why not many people try it.

So, your opposition to gun control of any kind, without any regard for the people who will die for your personal obsession with guns, bears no resemblance whatsoever to society''s use of automobiles. You really are grasping at straws to make that comparison. I realize it''s all you got, but do you really thing anyone is buying it?

"In any case, there''''''''s a lot of stupid going on. People need cars to get around. People don''''''''t need guns. That''''''''s pretty clear - unless you''''''''re stupid".

I wonder what your ancestry is? Do you think that ANYONE in your family used a gun to maybe shoot game? Or how about the guns that allow you to get on this media and make a myopic statement like yours?

The planet survived without cars for centuries ... mankind has had weapons way before vehicles ..

Stupidity? now thats been around for ions ...

LOL. Ok. When was the last time you went out and shot a chicken? People don''t need guns. Go to your grocery store, fool.

Yes, the planet has survived without cars for centuries. However, try getting a job with no transportation. Unless you''re in a big city, it''s pretty tough. Cars are necessary for most people.

Then again, if you''re doing something stupid like drag racing, Darwin just selects you out of the gene pool, as was the case here.

Yes, it is a tradgey, and, another legal issue that some here may have not considered is the fact that any adults killed in this accident (if there were any), may have made their life insurance policies invalid, considering that they were killed while being a part of an illegal activity - there is a good chance, if they had a $100,000 life insurance policy, for example, that the company will only allow for a "burial" amount of $5,000 or so - that is going to be a another shock to those who have already lost so much...

If any question this, it is a fact that most insurance policies state that their coverage is invalid if the claim (for a person''s death, in this case) is the result of participation (onlookers included) in any illegal activity.

Some might think this is something that can be evaded, but, in the case of death certificates, hospital statements and police accident reports, this is something that insurance companies will carefully examine to determine why a person was killed in the middle of the night while standing on a roadway, whether they be a participant or spectator in an illegal street racing.

Again, this is a tragedy, but, this is likely to be compounded in the days to come, when family members are notified that they will receive little or no life insurance monies in order to bury someone killed in this accident, because of the circumstances that lead to the person''s death.

Isn''t it irresponsible to take your kids to something so dangerous? I mean if you want to play russian roulette, fine - go for it. But don''t take your kids!!

The real victim here is the driver of that sedan that hit them. He should have had his lights on, and if he couldn''t see what he was driving into he should have slowed way down if not stopped altogether. But he / she has to live with this the rest of their lives - all because of the irresponsible behavior of some alleged "adults".

I feel bad for these people, but at the very least they could pick a spot away from civilization as not to destroy peoples peace at 3 am and a place that''s not on a blind corner!duh. When I was younger we raced plenty,we blocked both ends of the road for safty, there has always been illegal racing (horses, bikes, cars) and always will be, I still race a 72 ford 460 BB, as for "IRLIBERAL", I don''t need this car any more than I need all 31 firearms that I own, but they are a hobby as the car is and both are just as dangerous with an idiot in control

Tragic and sad -- why? Aside from the obvious pain the families will suffer, this was AVOIDABLE. These folks were participating in an ILLEGAL activity at 3:00 a.m. on a highway in the middle of nowhere.

Can''t blame this on the driver of the white Crown Vic. How could he (she?) have possibly known or expected there would be a crowd of people LITERALLY standing in the middle of the highway??!!!

Sad, pointless, unnecessary tragedy. Hopefully, some of these "race" fans will stay home from now on.

compassion for the families of the people who died in an auto accident.

Not many people get to die doing what they love to do.
These victims loved to watch and race cars and they died doing it.
It''s not my fault they didn''t have a safer place to do it.
