I work in the construction industry, and formaldehyde is used in the manufacture of many construction materials. Did you know arsenic was used in treated lumber for many years?

Anyway, my dad has a great theory...he''s thinking that FEMA is using this as an excuse to get them out of the trailers...although the formaldehyde reason is probably legit.

The "Aggiekat" solution? Give each person in a FEMA trailer a one-way bus ticket to a place of their choosing, two month''s rent in a reasonably-priced apartment, assistance with deposits for turning on utilities, and a voucher for one month''s groceries. For about $3,500, you make an investment and get them somewhere else. Then let them get a job. If they have no skills? Pay the cost of a 1-month business course.

Give a man a fish, and he''ll eat for a day...

How did FEMA help after Katrina?--They helped the mobile home industry by buying 35,000 mobile homes...

And, wasn''t it lovely at the Superdome?

http://www.infowars.com/articles/us/katrina_60k_trapped_fema_superdome_camp.htm

Who would have thought that stadium restrooms with no water wouldn''t be enough for tens of thousands of people?! Probably the same people who decided to let the Corps of Engineers manage their levees.

FEMA has taken up the role that Civil Defense once played...it has another role--and this is its primary one--The continuation of the government in the event of national emergency--and that is where its focus is being directed.

Strip FEMA of all of its ancillary and anti-American roles and lets have Civil Defense. We do not need FEMA or its bureaucracy. With National Guard, Civil Defense, Emergency Services and volunteers, we can get the job done. FEMA in the instance of Katrina was a nuisance, a bottleneck and a hindrance. Today, it is an expensive burden which is in charge of empty prison camps all over America.

FEMA did not manufacture "FEMA trailers." Various mobile home manufacturers made them. Blame them if you must lay blame. Formaldehyde? Sure. An ingredient in the glues used and is also in other items in a home, mobile or otherwise, and in tightly enclosed spaces it is awful smelling, but the solution? Open the windows and let fresh air in! And use the A/C, also, if possible. Common sense rules.
The ''grace'' period should have long been over. It was a major storm; not the first and not the last, but never have so many expected the government to hand them everything. Not everyone though, just the users and abusers of "The System."
IMHO it is past time to get off your lazy butt and GET A JOB! Not meaning folks who are truly needy, are ill, or handicapped, or elderly... just the lazies, the users, and the abusers. The taxpayers who support your lazy butts have been more than generous and you tossing that money into the wind should be a crime.
Charities have never given so much, people have never donated more, and still some folks expect/want even more, even after all this time. Again, UNBELIEVABLE!

Get a job, you''''ve had enough time. I''''m a compassionate person, but enough is enough.

I agree.

2-1/2 years isn''t "receiving help" - it''s milking the system, and it appears that they have no intention of stopping. They won''t move out, until they''re thrown out.

I totally agree...people, regardless of color, need to get off their butts and move, get a job, and quit depending on handouts. It''s been two years.

I''ve posted this before, but I live in Central Texas. I live near San Marcos, which is home to outlet malls and a waterpark called Schlitterbahn. Right after the Katrina disaster, we started seeing people from Louisiana come into our area, and I can tell you that those little Visa cards given out by the government were NOT being used for necessities. Big-screen TVs, "bling," and designer clothes and handbags were very popular items. I would LOVE to see a breakdown of what people bought with these cards...I can guarantee you it wasn''t the necessities.

Those cards could''ve paid for transportation and down payments on affordable housing in other areas.

Many of these people moved into the Houston area where crime statistics went way up. One article on CNN.com says that evacuees have been victims or suspects in 20% of the city''s homicides (which doesn''t match the proportion of evacuees moving into the area).

But ironically, the Houston police CAN''T SAY THIS. Why? Because that would be RACIST!

Get a job, you''ve had enough time. I''m a compassionate person, but enough is enough.

This is just another example of why we don''''t need FEMA.

We still need FEMA. We need the FEMA that rushed into south Florida after hurricane Andrew hit - FEMA drove through the tail of the storm to start administering aid, helping people out, looking for survivors, etc.

It''s only when Bush flunkies are given the job of running it, not having a clue as to what they''re doing, that the system completely breaks down.

As an example, Bush replaced "Brownie" with the director of OEM from the city of Philadelphia. This guy has 35 years of experience in starting as a fireman, then a captain, then a battalion commander, then running the whole dammn fire dept!!

Why wasn''t this guy appointed in the first place? Because he wasn''t a politically connected flunkie!!

There is a big difference between how the poor and unemployed and disabled are able to respond to a disaster...they don''t have the money in the bank or assets to start again. Its disheartening for them...they are dependent.

The materials in the trialers put poisonous fumes into the air...its worse when it is hot...It comes from foam padding, insulation and other materials.
This is bad for you and your children whether or not you live in a FEMA trailer or not. The deadly carcinogen aspartame breaks down under heat into fomic acid and fermaldehyde...so some of you are probably ingesting it in a diet drink as we post.

This is just another example of why we don''t need FEMA.

Had you bothered to REALLY read my post you would see that I said that the race and creed of people in the area of Katrina is pretty even on both sides of the Lake. There is nothing in my comment that even begins to tell you what my race is. You just assume that negative comments about anyone in the NO area makes the commentor a racist. Bring your happy A$$ down here and start helping people directly instead of sitting on your high horse and disrespecting those of us who have!!
It''s time for all of these people to stand on their own, regardless of their skin color!!
