jwhitman said, "we can no longer defend ourselves from......"
For the record, there are presently 4 million members in the armed forces on active duty.
There have been no major attacks since the U.S. actually started fighting back. Unlike previous history under previous presidents.
The U.S. has the greatest, most well equiped, professional, technologically advanced, army in the modern world. We have an arsenal unprecedented in human history. Two middle eastern countries have been restored to democracy namely Afghanistan and Iraq.
Whitman your baseless rhetoric would be more effective if there were facts to back it up, sadly that is never the case. Anyone can make wild claims to support an agenda and yours is obvious.

Perhaps, the Senate and Bush are right this time as we now the FBI and DHS have been alerted us that some pregnant women could in fact be bomb laden terrorists.
The govt. needs this important eavesdropping bill to investigate this grave threat to all of us. We need background checks on ALL pregnant women.

I wonder Wolfowitz is up to at the State Dept. Where is the outrage?

It''s amazing. All the telecoms needed to do was ask for warrents. Warrents were free to the Government under FISA just about anytime they asked - even retroactively. But now the telecom industry knows they don''t need to do that anymore - forget about warrents - don''t need ''em. The government does what it pleases.

Politicians can assume that all their phone conversations and emails and all the phone conversations and emails of their supporters are all logged and scanned for who, what and where, and everything else of use politically.

It would be foolish to assume anything else.

The idea that the government is bound by the law is dead.

The only thing that protects any of us now is our connections and personal power.

Fie on you and your weasel ways Hillary and friends.

The good guys voted to support the Dodd amendment:
Akaka (D-HI)
Baucus (D-MT)
Biden (D-DE)
Bingaman (D-NM)
Boxer (D-CA)
Brown (D-OH)
Byrd (D-WV)
Cantwell (D-WA)
Cardin (D-MD)
Casey (D-PA)
Dodd (D-CT)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Durbin (D-IL)
Feingold (D-WI)
Harkin (D-IA)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Klobuchar (D-MN)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Leahy (D-VT)
Levin (D-MI)
Menendez (D-NJ)
Murray (D-WA)
Obama (D-IL)
Reed (D-RI)
Reid (D-NV)
Sanders (I-VT)
Schumer (D-NY)
Tester (D-MT)
Whitehouse (D-RI)
Wyden (D-OR)

Reid doesn''t count since he''s been playing both ends and really engineered this outcome. It''s his fault that this version of the bill was brought forward in the first place ahead of the version that did not include immunity for the telecoms.

Doesn''t it make you mad when politicians wink at their secret friends and play the voters for fools. The media doesn''t tell the voters about the details of the three card monty tricks politicians play. I wonder why.

Anyway, you will notice that Hillary didn''t vote, but all her supporters voted to ensure telecom immunity - so we know where she stands - or we know she has no influence - take your choice.

Obama voted for the Dodd amendment. Good for him!

notblue,,, Placating you accuse dems of ?? -- Hmmmm, I whould call it more like GOP politics placating you

This does nothing for the phone companies, they had protection under existing laws.

This does nothing to aid FISA,, it still takes less than 2 hours to OK a phone tap, as before under existing law --- & today abasoultly no intell hase ever been gleamed from it.

This article makes it clear that if the Democrat majority in the senate had anything at all to prosecute the president with this would not have passed. Furthermore, it proves the rhetoric the Dems spew in order to placate the screaming child leftwing of their party is nothing more than a political pascification as the allegations obviously contain no factual basis.

ilikecats1,,, After 7 years our directors of the FBI & CIA tell you we are in more danger of an attack from within
-- Less than 5% of port cargo is inspected
-- Less than 3% of air cargo is inspected
-- our 1st defenders are told, "Make do with what you have"
-- our military cannot defend our nation or meet commitments abroad
-- HSD cannot preform a simple Background Security Check
-- 5 years in Iraq & it''s pre-ivasion conditions minus Saddam
-- 6 years in Afaganistan & it''s becomming a Failed State
-- Al Queda has grown & so has angry animosity against our country throughout Europe

-- You think it''s just a game --

I like that lying dishonorable GOP. You forgot to say homophobic, war profiteering, murderous, traitorous, anti-American GOP.

Their whole ideology is a hideous failure. Starting with the 2nd worst president (after Bush Jr.) of all time, Raygun.
