Marccbs, your definition of civilized is personal, not-standard, without root in its etymology. Not that there is anything wrong with that (if enough of the speakers of English agree with you). There are a number of definitions for the word "civilized" along a continuum, & one of those definitions is being referred to in the article & by libsrissy, that being ''refinement of thought, manners, taste.'' If the idea is a "created description," meaning it is a merely an abstract concoction, then ''family values'' is in the same category, since the "values" are an attempt to describe a supposedly refined state of human relations & the benefits of those relations. Looking a little deeper, we have to wonder if ''just punishment'' is achievable as a type of moral refinement, or if it is merely varnish on unwashed vengeance, which I doubt will be present within the Kingdom of God, if that is one''s aspiration.

Pointing out the error of another''s position does not make yours right by default.

Gas them, store them like cattle in uninsulated sheds till they can be rounded up and machine gunned, dropped in a pit and buried or work them to death building equipment and ammunition for Blackwater.
