Lawmaker From Fattest State In U.S. Says He Wants To Draw Attention To Obesity Epidemic

But really, we all know obesity is an illness, this just isn''t about overeating like the skinny people think. This is about all of the contributors to the problem, genetic disposition, economic status, personal habits, availability of health care. With over 40 million americans without healthcare insurance and millions more living in poverty and low income what do you expect? Health insurance companies will spend over $50,000 for a heart attack but will not allow an obese person to get a gastric bypass to treat the obesity that caused the heart attack at half the cost?

Wait a second, isn''t there a statistic that says 52 or more percent of Americans can be classified as obese or "morbidly" obese? That means we are the majority! Let''s use our numbers to get a law passed to keep the skinny ******* people from going out to eat or buying groceries! That way in a couple of weeks they will all die out and leave us in peace!

might as well tell grocery stores who they can sell food
to as well.
heck, why not just let the government ration out the food to their subjects.
yeah, thats right, we should call ourselves subjects now, instead of citizens.

For all those that say obese people don''t hurt those around them, I''ll assume you''ve never had one step on your foot. My toenail never did grow back right.
Obese people should start shouldering their share of the healthcare business just like the smokers (BTW, I''m not either). I never had a problem with smokers...they had their side of the restaurant and I had mine. The fatties took up both sides! Don''t even let me get started on parents who let their kids run wild in public. Let one run your wife down on those GD rollerskate shoes and then see what you think. Yes, the law was stupid, but I appalude the representative for trying to bring attention to this epidemic. I bet the Missippians in question have already lost several pounds from ranting in protest!

To me it is invading peoples rights to go this far as to have a bill to ban fat people from fast food places or public eating places period. We need to worry about more serious things like the men and women of the armied forces that fight for the freedom that we share. Or have better healthcare for people like myself that is in a wheelchair that needs it the most.

I am amazed at the dumb comments made on this topic. I wonder if half of you even read the article???

1. Did any of you take note of the person (Read) and ask yourself is he counted in this bill? How does one define obesity so that one cannot eat at a restaurant.

2. The second-hand smoke is clearly an issue as the smoke keeps many from being able to enjoy the luxuries that smokers have been able to enjoy for decades...

3. The man said it was not going to get any credence nor will the law be voted on.

4. Why did he bring this public? Duh... Don''t you know that any publicity is good publicity as long as people get to know your name... Read that is...
Let''s see if he runs for some big campaign within the near future as he gets his name associated with a bill (albeit dumbed down to extinction)...

Wow! It is true....the GOP really has become the big government nanny that they have always accused the Democrats of being. This is one Southerner who will admit that I was bamboozeled by the GOP, but no more. I will hold my nose and vote for the Democrats (like my grandparents and great-grandparents use to do), because I''ve come to see the other choice is actually worse.

If your child is not under control, then don''''''''t take him out in public. Hire a babysitter. This is your child, not mine, and I don''''''''t want to listen to him/her while I am paying for a $20 entree.

This is typical of American psyche, we will eat more of an inferior product to fill the belly now. Just listen to the comments of the uneducated hick in a fine dinning restaurant, "where''s the food?" food is directly related to quality of life. I am sometimes (lately moor often than not) ashamed to be an American.

Let me remind that asre that is pushing that trash. I live with a person who is overweight. This is why his medications, diabetes. He has to give himself shots to control his diabetes..Some do over eat.. Some have health issues that for give me become fat. I was 100 lbs for years..then my periods stopped at 37. I went to 140. Same wt as Mum..I don''t over eat. I am 53, When I was 100 lbs. people would asked don''t ye eat..sure I did. When I had my period I could not gain. Now the tables are turned. *we want people to think* was said in the article..We will think all right it is called boycott ye. I am 53.
