Lots more money for war (though one of the lies of this budget is that the current wars won''t cost more then another $70 billion this year) and scr*ew everyone else. Keep the tax cuts for the rich going and slash spending for the poor and middle class. The plain and simple fact is that, like the lives of our troops Bush is wasting in Iraq, he does not care. He is a spoiled momma''s boy elitist prick raised to be one by an elitist bit*ch. To him anyone outside of his "class" is there to serve and die for the rich. To him none of the rest of us is even human.

The actual deficit for 2008 will be much closer to 900 Billion dollars, unless somewhere in the Bush spending proposal, there''''s an extra 500 billion set aside for paying your debtor''''s fees for that year on a astronomically growing unpaid debt that, YES, is more important than the national-security sucking manufactured cost for paying all fraudulent and detracting expenses for an undermined self-determining war on terrorism, one that refuses to include securing our nation from the interests of a sociopath in the White House -- most definitely the nation''''s weakest and most dangerous link in terms of attaining national security. Which as any sane non-sociopath would know, is fundamentally rooted in a nation''''s financial security first and foremost.

900 Billion in debt sounds very scary, just think about it, if Exxon gave the U.S. Treasury its 40 Billion in profit out of the kindness of its heart, it wouldn''t even put a dent in the debt! Sad!

Agree. All the monies that have been collected for social programs have been ''respent'' paying other bills, and not what they were collected for. I''d love to opt our of SS and invest my own money (I''ve been paying for 40 years) and I''m very concerned that Uncle Sam has squandered it all...

As for the Bush debt decrease - "Look Daddy, they sent me a Credit Card!!"

If Bush has actually followed the true GOP model, who knows how history might have ranked him?

Regardless, defense contractors and his buddies will rank him highly (especially in light of the open, revolving door to the Treasury for 7 years!)

singingrick - Is that really you? Starting to see the effects of the GOP hit your pocket? Don''t worry there is plenty more to come, we''ll be paying for this for years, that is IF we ever get out from under it. All money in their pocket out of our pocket on money we havn''t even earned yet. These guys are going to walk out of office and retire overseas with billions $$$, with not a single fine, penalty or day in prison. Bush to Paraguay or maybe Saudi Arabia (the country that attacked WTC), Cheney to Dubai, Rice to..?

the problem with this is people have been paying into medicare and medicare for years, just like Social Security. Unless they can send me a chack to cover all of the taxes I have apid towrd these programs cutting them is unacceptable. I don''t care about the effect on the economy, I want what I paid for period!
Here''s an idea. Pull the troops out of the middle east altogether, let the oil companies either hire their own security, on their own dime, or give up their holdings in the region without expecting any compensation from U.S. taxpayers.

Of course, while the grossly innacurate account of the national ''deficit'' here, is something that one comes easily to expect from journalist pandering wrecking our democracy; you''ll find that the actual deficit -- please see U.S. treasury''s definition and any legitimate and accurate source accounting the federal deficit -- includes all outlays, in particular the interest on the growing unpaid national debt, in the calculation. That''s right, lying "free American press", the actual deficit makes the government accountable for "all" outlays, "all" government expenditures, "all" the interest owed on the national debt -- you freaking disease on America''s future.

Modern conservatism is a morally and economically bankrupting philosophy that is stuck on the idea that the solution to all problems facing America is to shift more money from the hands of the working class to the already overflowing pockets of the super rich. The other thing they believe is that the nation can charge it''s way to prosperity by running up record deficits.

Republicans came to power saying that Washington doesn''t work. Then they proved it by selling the halls of our government to the highest bidder and bankrupting the national treasury.
