Report: Demand Creates Concern Over Declining Number Of "High-Quality" Recruits
- I wonder what the 2007 one looks like?

Speak of the devil, here it is! The 2007 poll shows even fewer people identify themselves as conservative! Why it''s down to about 44% and shrinking! I wonder why? How could this be when easeup assured me the an "overwhelming majority" of the military was conservative? Is The Military Times in error? Or is easeup?

- I see a lot of people with diplomas who swear and insult people just because they are staring at a monitor. It makes them feel safe like they are exempt. There are a incalcuable number of indicators of intelligence. Of course the ability to learn and to master Arthmatic, English, Science and Literature are a few. A good volcabulary is one, but so are good manners and consideration of others feelings. I read that one of the traits all our soldiers shared was selflessness and altruism. I am proud of our American soldiers. Those that run them down have an agenda.

You also might want to look at the 2006 poll (unless you did and decided yo0u didn''t like the results). You''ll also notice a strong disclaimer the The Military Times says these are only a poll of the subscribers and should not be taken to be representative of the military as a whole. You might want to also take notice that fewer then 1/3 of those who were polled approved of how Bush was doing in the war. I wonder what the 2007 one looks like?

- A person''s raw intelligence is different from their education. Their education is a tool to help with most jobs, but it doesn''t make them smarter. Kids drop out for a lot of reasons. But a high percentage of them go on to get a GED later and then go to college. Several young men who became soldiers who were in our class came back for a visit. One did six years, worked and trained as a airplane mechanic. He had just got home from Baharain.

For one thing that''s 3 years old and for another it doesn''t break out officers from enlisted. I agreed that most officers are conservative, but that most enlisted weren''t. Also even given this it only shows that 50% identify themselves as conservative whereas your contention was that an overwhelming majority were. 50% is not even a majority, let alone an overwhelming one.
Last but not least referring to liberals as libtards shows that your an as*shole anyway. - Reply to this comment
- I am shocked that they think the quality of the recruits dropped, because they didn''t have a diploma. I worked in an alternative class with kids that had problems at home and had behavioral problems. Often the kids would drop out the last year because of the environment of the home. Many of these kids came back to visit the class a few years later. Everyone of them were doing well, had gotten their GED, got a job were making a living. Two of the young men I worried about had gone on to college. They said all the films on manners, and behavior that we drummed into them constantly, as well as learning time management helped them. They said the single message that they didn''t have to be like their parents or relatives helped.

- At this point the military will take anyone to meet its recruitment obligations. It''s a sad thing that they have too. Lowering their standards like that, what is this country coming to?

- I believe the Army will take anybody at this time because they can''t get their quota and create a position for them just to make their quota. They are, at this time quite desperate. That''s why they keep recycling our soldier''s because they can''t meet their quota.

- I hope you people realize that being in the Military now is not all that bad (just stay out of the Infantry). If I had stayed in, my base pay would now be over $70k a year. That does not include Combat Pay or Sea Pay and it''s all tax free while your in the combat area (on a ship that means just be within 100 miles of the area). I would go back in a New York Heartbeat. And I got my GED in the service while I was an E-5 but don''t worry, after I retired I went on for my BS. So being in the military presents many wonderful opportunities for the member. All they have to do is apply for it and apply themselves.
