You are so very right and IF the Native American had NOT prevented the Religious Zealots who pushed such things on them in the 20''s NOT resisted then this nation may well NOT exist today. It was THEIR native language that help the Marine Corps and Army during WW II to the extent that many of the victories in the Pacific would not have been possible if not for the American "Code Talkers". Just another example of why we should not listen to the Religious Reich about anything. Sieg Heil and Amen

Incorrect? There were virtually hundreds of different languages, if not thousands, originally spoken on the American continent. Many are still alive.

This just shows the intelligence, or rather lack of, by many on the anti-immigration side. the very idea that someone thinks there is a singular native American language, that someone can or can not speak "Indian", is so ridiculous as to make one realize you can''t take anything they say seriously. I guess the Watch The Lone Ranger too much and thought nothing was strange about the fact that Tonto was able to interpret every other Native American they ran into. It always made me think that Tonto was a brilliant Native languages linguist, since even as a kid I knew different tribe spoke different languages.

I detect that the immigration issue is a big deal or a small deal depending on the area. I live in north east Texas and really have not had much trouble with the illegals that I know. The biggest problem is that you hire a person, he/she gives a SSN and about the time you get them trained the INS shows up, the SSN was bogus and all your workers are sent back to Mexico. My family and friends that live in Georgia have a completely different experience. Regardless, the USA government originally functioned in English. I don''t care what language you speak in your home or in the street but when you walk into a government building to do business you need to either have a basic command of English or bring an interrupter. I always had to work in the national language in other countries, the previous waves of immigrants had to learn to do that here and the Mexicans can learn it too.

The Navajo speak their language, the Sioux speak their''s, and so do the Hopi, Zuni, Apache, etc. South of the border the Tarahumara, the Huichol, the Tarascos, the Nahuatl or Mexica, the Zapotecs, the Mixteca, etc, etc. Not knowing that explains a lot of things. Oh, and these languages are as distinct from one another as Zulu is from English.

Sorry, Senor Papas, but uh, neither English nor Spanish is a native language on the American continent. However, Mexican Spanish does contain many elements of the native Uto-Aztecan branch of native languages. For example, coyote, is an Aztec word even adopted in our English language.

Since we have freedom of speech in the US I will speak whatever language I choose to speak. You mentioned Germany and in Germany they are not nearly as closed minded as you are about people speaking another language. You can hear languages from all over the world in Germany and no one is going to have a heart attack.
