"If she is the victim of foul play, I"ll eat my coffee cup. And, videotape it and put it on the I"net for all to see."

In 1978, I used the US Army Chain Of Command and went all the way to the Command Seargent Major (CSM), to complain about my Seagent First Class (SFC) supervisor sexually harassing me. The CSM told me "My Seargent wouldn''t do anything like that!" No One in the Chain of Command would believe me when I was telling the truth and they protected the SFC who was sexually harassing me. So I am not surprised that the Marines did not protect this poor woman. Looks like the military has not changed at all since I honorably served.

Just like cops, many in the military are very, very insecure people men who are desperate to find a way to be perceived as having some kind of power. Uniform or badge does it for them. pathetic.

The marines will never, never, never admit that they screwed this up. Anytime someone does something rotten (like rape and murder an Iraqi girl and her family), they ALWAYS try to cover it up. Don''t be;lieve anything they say.

Women Veterans of America, representing thousands of women veterans and women currently serving, send our deepest sympathy to the family of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach. We are deeply saddened by the course of events that has led to her untimely death and the death of her unborn child. This incident has devastated military women and women veterans throughout the country who have suffered at the hands of rapists. It is yet another blow from the military regarding sexual assault and their %u201Cinexcusable handling%u201D of these cases. Unfortunately, women in today%u2019s military who have been sexually assaulted have now an added pressure to not go forth to report these crimes. Their fears have been reinforced by today%u2019s horrendous events and have re-traumatized them. Our women in the military remain even more at risk from their comrades in arms. As the National Commander for Women Veterans of America and a Military Sexual Trauma (MST) survivor, I am in contact with many MST survivors throughout the country and the military. It is abominable the way the military protects the criminal instead of protecting victims of sexual assault. It has been said that the military is just a small sampling of our society in general. If that be true, how soon can we expect the society in general to demand the same safeguards for our women in the military enjoyed by non military women in our society? Colleen Mussolino, National Commander

When we first heard about this her mother called her a pathalogial liar. I thought that was a cold thing to say about a missing daughter. Wonder what she says now.

I stated the same thing earlier sv1966. At a time like this..how could your own mother say youre a pathological liar when you have been missing for a few weeks and possibly dead somewhere?
The father actually defended his daughter(deceased) and said that at times she would stretch the truth in stressful situations, but was not a habitual liar. I was glad he stated that. He put the step mom or mother in her place.
I still dont know if it was her step mom or biological mother that made the statement but whomever it was, it was still f****** wrong to say, at at a time like this. Alot of these military men are just going crazy lately. Some havent even gone to war, but sure the hell act like they have. They need more support services for military men.
My ex was a marine and he would beat my *ss every chance he got when we argued. I still have scars to prove it. He was violent in nature. They restricted him from the military base after he got caught stealing with his friends, but never considered restricting him from me with his violent history.

MyOpinion1, a woman being raped and murder has nothing to do with women being in the military. Are you saying that it is inevitable that enlisted men will rape and murder enlisted women? This man is a sociopath. He committed a criminal act. It has nothing to do with women in the military.

i was date raped in the military in the 1980s @ naval air station miramar it is now a marine base anyway i woke up in the middle of him raping me, but he did not see me open my eyes, so i quickly shut them. so when he finished i acted like i was just waking up so i calmly put on my clothes said good bye and left. he was an E5 and I was an E3. i never told any one. we also worked at the same command. one day he got married and the girl that he married cheated on him so he shot her and killed himself.
