I am a land use consultant specializing in building near water. FEMA puts out maps showing the areas of the country known to be prone to flooding. I have to draw site plans with the buildings outside the flood plain.

Why should New Orleans be rebuilt in a place that will surely flood again?

rudy,
you hit it on the head. This is not so much about white and black, but more like rich and poor. NO is so hellbent on getting NO back on the map, that they are jumping at the chance to get rid of poor and minority residents and prop the place up on rich white dollars. So what if it was your home? your''e out. They are taking the land and handing it to private developers to make a buck for themselves. The same thing is happening everywhere. Move out the homeowners and the renters and let some fat cat developer profit from the land. These a holes on this site dont get it, they do make everything white and black when the real issue is the government, federal, state and local are handing over $$ to their developer friends. Besides, its too expensive to commute from the suburbs anymore so they are taking over city centers that they have neglected and didnt give a s h i t about when there were poor people living there!

the housing in n.o. is designed to keep the blacks who won''t work (i.e. dopers, drunks, mentally ill, ******, and unmarried mammies with 10 kids, ect.) segregated from those willing to work to better themselves.
And they still can''t control the murdering s.o.bs. so they don''t want that back...

Maybe they didn''t want to remind the public what kind of care they provided during Katrina.

If the Darth Bushit admin is behind this move, it''s for the benefit of some corporate billionaires. Those are "Bushit''s people."

Maybe they''ll bring in Blackwater to murder some residents.

1 billion dollar can build up to 20,000 social homes units in subsidized form of low cost housing project.

70 billion dollar can build up to 1,400,000 social houses. It''''s almost the total need for social housing in America.

Repukons nad right-wingers prefer spending 70 billion over war, destruction, not construction. And they sell-call Christians... What a shame!

ericjc1,

Read up on the history of restrictive covenants. These areas were never intended to be stepping stones. They were intended to be graveyards.
