"Im very glad the children were spared."
barbaraf4

Why? so they can stay HERE in purgatory for 70 more years with accidents, disease, dredgery of working for a living, old age pains, maybe cancer, watching friends, pets and family die, yep sure sounds like a great deal compared to eternal perfect paradise in heaven!

LOL yeah right, it was pilot skills and their trained EYES as well as an idiot who just happened to stomp a message in the snow just like the movies.
if god was there it never would have happened in the first place.

"As for ''''getting a free tree''''. Last time I checked you had to get a permit, which costs money, to cut down a fresh tree. It is a great experience and will provide long lasting memories."

And did they actually pay for and GET the permit? probably not, had they, maybe the permit comes with a MAP and a GUIDE.
Cutting down a tree that took a decade or more to grow all for some stupid commercial holiday to be used for about 5 or 6 days then thrown away, at a time when we NEED MORE TREES to counteract the huge numbers being killed by forest fires, clear cutting, pests, disease, acid rain, fungus and more. Vermon''t maple syrup industry is big trouble- acid rain is killing entire forests.
The days of cutting down live trees for a frivolous holiday to throw out in 5 or 6 days are OVAH, time to buy an artificial or buy one grown on a tree FARM for this purpose- even that is a waste however when they should be growing them to replant.

"Walking into the mountains in the winter without any navigational aids might not be the brightest idea. This gentleman can truly thank God that he and his family were spared."

LOL yeah "spared" to live a few more decades in PURGATORY instead in eternal perfect paradise, oh REAL nice!! Thats like saving a chained abused dog from a fatal disease so he can live 10 more years chained to a dog house and abused.

"For those of you who would think the father was an idiot, ..."

I dont ''THINK'' he was an idiot, he IS!!!! he proved it by getting LOST that easy.

"and knowing how to walk into some trees and back out without getting lost?

Posted by downtowner97 "

Its called the dumbing-down of America, idiots like these couldnt survive a few days out in the ''wilds'' of the woods a mile lost off the freaking freeway. Everything today is done FOR you, 150 years ago in the REAL wild West like the real Laura Ingals- families had to do everything themselves- farm with their hands horses and few tools, dig a well for water by hand, read by kerosine lamps if they had them, do the laundry by hand in a washtub, cook, fix things and do without eletric and survive. They learned the skills they needed to survive, and planned for crop failures, bad weather etc, if they didnt they DIED- Darwin at work, survival of the fittest.
Swiss family Robinson or Laura Ingals this family AINT, and 150 years ago they would have starved to death or got lost in the REAL woods teaming with bears, big cats and more, and no helcopters, phones or S&R teams to get them either.

Actually, if they weren''t celebrating the birth of christ (by getting a tree), they wouldn''t have got lost in the first place.

Therefore it''s god''s fault that they almost died.

Fortunately, luck was on their side and they made it.

A stupid family got lost looking for a Christmas tree and didn''t die. God be praised! Maybe they were praying and had their eyes closed when they got lost. It amazes me that people can still believe an invisible man is in charge of everything.

What ever happened to personal responsibility and knowing how to walk into some trees and back out without getting lost?

The current gods are just as real to modern minds as the old gods were to those in the past. Just seems like people could learn eventually that spiritual belief doesn''''t have to walk hand-in-hand with ethnic cleansing...

There is only one God, the creator of the earth and the universe, all other "gods" are man made

''I find the reaction to any mention of faith in God to be interesting. If you guys are totally convinced that God doesn''''t exist then why the violent reaction?
Posted by oldpilot954''

In my case, when I hear the babble on religion, it''s like I have to remind an Alzheimers patient there is no Santa Claus. For the thousandth time. It''s like otherwise mature people want magic to work, and fairy tails to come true.
Those same people seem to really despise anyone who ''thinks different'', when all we do is point out the sillyness of the Greek and Egyptian gods in today''s light. The current gods are just as real to modern minds as the old gods were to those in the past. Just seems like people could learn eventually that spiritual belief doesn''t have to walk hand-in-hand with ethnic cleansing...

were talking about "faith".

Death is only a part of living, every day, when some people wake up, they thank god for another day. It works works all the time.

To believe that any deity gives you the thumbs up or down is the height of arrogance. Like the universe was built for the sole use of humanity. Really? Really? If believing truly in this junk doesn''t always save you from death why the heck do you pray at all? It''s God''s will that your 13 year old cousin fell down stairs and died in a coma. Did God need him/her to fertilize that patch of ground? Get over yourselves. You''re not that important. Were talking about magic here people.

A man and a Minister were watching a local high school football game, both rooting the home team on, The home team lost, the man turned to the minister and said "it looks like our prayers were not answered". The Minister turned to the man and said "our prayers are always answered, it''s just that god said "no" this time"

oldpilot954: "...reaction to any mention of faith in God..."

While it''s probably not fundamentalist dogma, believe it or not, there are people that believe in God that don''t believe prayers are "answered." A Christmas Miracle? Ask the crowd that sees the Virgin Mary bleeding from a burnt tortilla-
