- 133 countries have abolished the death penalty, including nearly all industrialized, "first world" nations.
The United States, along with the "great" nations of Afghanistan, Cuba, India, Iraq, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, allow the death penalty.
We''re really keeping fine company, aren''t we, folks? - Reply to this comment

Thanks and same to you. I''ve enjoyed our discussion and felt that I learned something today. It''s nice to be able to have a back and forth online and have it be (mostly) civil. - Reply to this comment
- You tend to like statistics. Look up how this influences the young to lead the life of crime. We have certain races that tend to create more division that unity in our society, causing tensions and stress.

Gulp! Are we looking at a ''Final Solution'' here? Or a civil war? Secession of the ''Red States?'' perhaps?
If it''s the last one - great! We''ll take California, New York, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon. You guys can have Alabama, Mississippi, South Dakota, New Mexico and Oklahoma! (kidding) - Reply to this comment
I do. And it is painful for me to see people who have committed horrible crimes go on living when their victims cannot. But we must evolve as a society. We must look at what is creating this problem, how to address it and what to do with those who cannot be allowed to live among us. Again, when we execute people what effect does that have on our society? We become barbarians, no better then the mullahs in Iran. I want the US to be the paragon of justice, morality and human rights. As long as we have capital punishment, our demands to nations like China to respect human right right hollow and false.
Until we do eliminate the death penalty we will live in a brutish and ignorant society caught up in an endless cycle of murder and death.

- "Firstly, we change one of the fundamental problems in this cycle of murder and death. There are no ''''benefits'''' from having to lock someone up for life. But, again, it prevents an innocent person from being killed."
But what if they kill another inmate or guard?
What if they escape and then kill again?
How bout when some get paroled and then kill again?
It has happened before - Reply to this comment
- i said point taken..now i want to hear the BENEFITS in keeping convicted CRIMINALS locked up for life.

Firstly, we change one of the fundamental problems in this cycle of murder and death. There are no ''benefits'' from having to lock someone up for life. But, again, it prevents an innocent person from being killed.
Another interesting fact: Of the top 20 states with the highest murder rate only one (Michigan) doesn''t have the DP. And it follows, of the bottom 20 only 11 don''t have the DP) - Reply to this comment

It would unfair to compare our crime problems with other nations. There are a lot of factors that influence crime, from family units, to what is %u2018norm%u2019, the diversity of its citizenry, etc, etc..
Here is my take on the %u2018roots%u2019 of the problem. We tend to glamorize crime, from our movies, to our video games, to our accept sports, to the people our children would look up to. Our family unit is going down the drain. You tend to like statistics. Look up how this influences the young to lead the life of crime. We have certain races that tend to create more division that unity in our society, causing tensions and stress.
And for my solution, I don%u2019t think you are ready to hear my solutions. - Reply to this comment
- Roger,
Isn''t that site a Anti Dealth penalty site?

Yes, But facts are facts regardless of the source. And the facts are that clearly states with the death penalty suffer a higher murder rate then those that do not. While there are many factors involved, that statistic alone should give any pro-death penalty person reason to pause. - Reply to this comment
