- what was the legislation doing tied to a defense spending bill?
Typically, these type of ''riders'' are put there to politically blackmail lawmakers into approving.
How do we know it wasn''t the major part of the bill that was the reason for the defeat. The media is only focused on the rider.

Actually you speak truth, but I would add that they need not be ashamed of what they do, just do it in the privacy of their own spaces. They don''t need my validation (or anyone else''s, for that matter), they can and should do whatever they will do with consenting adult partners, even without it.
To ask the state to sanction homosexual marriage is asking the state to interfere in a religious concept, which is rightly forbidden. Any secular, legalistic aspects can be taken care of with appropriate paperwork.
There is no need for hate crime laws of any kind, if some one commits a crime, punish them for the crime. What we need to do is make sure criminals are punished equally, without regard for their gender, ethnicity, or economic status, and it is this that has been the real problem, that must be corrected. - Reply to this comment

- I never understood why G.A.Y. people need to advertise and let everybody know their G.A.Y. in the first place! What happens in the bedroom is private, nobodys business.
