Police Say 20-Year-Old Gunman Killed 8 People, Wounded 5 Others, Before Killing Himself
- my grandma works there and today was her day off
so she went with my aunt and godchild...as they were
leaving my grandma went upstairs to the customer service
to say hi to all of her friends while my aunt went and got
the car. As my aunt was getting off the elevator the gunman
was 2. My aunt was on the elevator with him. Then my grandma heard
the gunshots and went and hid with 2 other women. The man tried to
open the door to the back of customer service but he didnt know how to.
She said when she was taken out by the cops she saw blood coming from
her friends. - Reply to this comment

One fact you have failed to take into account is that firearms are prohibited in this mall. Law abiding citizens who have a concealed carry permit are not allowed to have firearms in malls like this and in other prohibited zones like schools. Consequently, the majority of shootings occur in these "gun free" locations. Criminals, however, by definition do not adhere to these laws and choose to commit crimes in areas where they are least likely to encounter resistance (gun free zones)

"The idea of a society where every citizen is packing a gun is nuts!!! The U.S. is the most heavily armed society in the world, with 90 guns per 100 citizens. The NRA folks believe that allowing everyone to carry a gun is a great crime deterent. But, the incident in Omaha is just one example of how allowing citizens to carry guns won''''t deter crime. Nebraska is a Concealed Gun Law State, which allows Nebraskans to carry hidden handguns. But the Concealed Gun Law did nothing to deter or prevent the tragic loss of life in a shopping mall in Omaha, Nebraska."

- I am from Omaha. I go to westroads, through Von Maur, every day on my lunch break. Thank God, I had taken the day off and did not go to the mall that day. This kid wanted to be famous, and he is the top story in every national headline today, giving him everything he wanted. I wish the media would take the stance of a local radio station here. They will talk about the victims, the tragedy, all the details that matter. But they REFUSE to mention the killers name or any details about his life. I respect anyone that follows this example. Why grant the wish of a boy who ruined the lives of everyone that was connected to those effected by the tragedy? Please, help Omaha forget his name and don''t post anything with his name or picture, so that we do not remember him, but the story of those who were hurt, and also those that were heroes.

- This ********* wanted the media hype that we are currently providing him. Otherwise a self-pitying loser who couldn''''t keep a job at McDonald''''s and couldn''''t keep a girlfriend, now the most popular news on the internet. Not only is selfish act newsworthy, we are now searching deeper into his personal life to discover "why someone would do this..." High expectations and nothing to show for it, goes out with a bang, now he''''s on center stage. If we would keep these a$$holes names'' anonymous, and stop digging so deep into their psychological and personal history, maybe the next guy might just shoot himself in his bedroom while listening to the cure instead of trying to rack up an impressive body count first.

- People who believe more gun ownership is the answer are uneducated, ignorant fools. America has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world, and also one of the highest murder rates. Is it possible there is a correlation there? It''s also scary that some people like this psychopath possibly do end up in our military.

No one would ever want to be put in that situation. But either way, you couldn''t do anything unless you had a gun!! - Reply to this comment
- If someone is shooting randomly at people, I''''m next to be shot, and you have a gun - please do me a favor and shoot the shooter. I would really appreciate it!!

It is time to blame for all this mess. - Reply to this comment
- chitown639: This is hard for me to explain so bear with me. Im sure it happened so fast nobody had time to react. I don%u2019t know the fine details. And when carrying a weapon come%u2019s a lot of responsibility including the intent to use it if necessary. Im sure many who pack would not hurt a fly and that puts them in a very bad position. If you cant or wont use it don%u2019t carry it.

I''m not going to debate gun ownership with you. I don''t really care if you like them or not, or if you think people should be allowed to carry them or not.
I would like to think though, that if someone with a pistol was within 20 feet of this guy when he pulled out his gun, that they could have fired and took him out. Even if they would have saved one life, wouldn''t that have made the issue a moot point?

- a question for gun owners:
What is, after all, so effing great about owning guns??? What''''s the attraction?
It baffles me. You don''''t need them.
For me it was the thrill of the tin can hunt. I never killed a living thing. Took a couple of professional classes on the operation of various weapons and can hit that beer can from a mile and a half away. These rifles have sat silent for 10 years now. I do keep an assault weapon on standby in the slim chance that somebody wants break in and rob or hurt somebody. He won%u2019t even make it through the kitchen. It has a REAL LONG clip - Reply to this comment

Leave it to a Bush supporter to try and drag politics into a tragedy. I''ll give you credit though - you didn''t bring up Monica. That''s a first for one of you neo cons - you clowns usually blame that for everything. - Reply to this comment

Blaming the gun for the murders, is like blaming the car when a drunk kills a family of four while driving under the influence.
And then someone like you says, "What is, after all, so effing great about owning cars??? What''s the attraction?
It baffles me. You don''t need them." - Reply to this comment

- ttinsly,
What exactly are you trying to understand? I''ve seen this happen time and time again. Someone like him does something like this and we need to come together as a nation to understand him. Someone like him but in Detroit does something like this and these people need to fix their problem. - Reply to this comment
- Have the Liberals blamed this on Bush or Global Warming yet?
