thoughtful78...I will guarantee that anyone that comes to being in danger everyday becomes hardened, more cynical, more cautious and yes more aggressive. Any profession that deals with the public that endangers your life because of these non law-biding citizens where you are spit upon, hit, threatened, and even shot at will make anyone make you look at people different. The officer involved should be tasered in the same way & for the same duration as his victim.

And I think whether it would be "cruel & unusual" is quite irrelevant.

The punishment should fit the crime, as it should.

The motorist was walking away when tasered. It''s silly to claim that he was a risk to himself or others.

This officer needs to become intimately acquainted with the treatment he''s dishing out. Only then will these guys really THINK before shocking people.

What video did you watch? The officer instructed him not to get out of the car but to "hop out of the car". Was that why he was tasered ? He did not hop?. You are why eye witness testimony is unreliable. He was instructed to get out but you didn''t catch that on a video you can watch repeatedly.

Well, there is another police officer that should feel the pinch, the pain of joblessness! After having a brother become an officer, I have come to realize it takes a VERY special mindset to become one. The problem is that EXTREMELY FEW of the existing officers have that mindset.
I watched a man go from being as nice a man as you''d ever want to meet, to a person that was aggressive, confrontational and egotistical. I am pleased he has since left the police.
I was on Jury Duty this year and when called before the judge, I raised my hand that I had a family member that was a part of law enforcement. His comment was that he understood I might be unfair to the accused. I corrected him immediately in that I wouldn''t trust an officer as far as I could throw them and the ones I know are liars, cheats, and certainly not someone with any intrinsic value at all. All they as a group care about is being right, even and especially when they are WRONG.
Until we screen them more carefully, we will continue to get what we pay for, not much!
This officer would be one of the good buddies that my brother used to have on the force. He is a terrific example of a poor excuse for an officer of the law and I say he should be fired immediately.

It is clear from the video the man repeatedly did not do as instructed and posed a potential threat. He got out of the car without being instructed and then failed to obey the officer. When he continued do move away from the car and raised his arm he gave the officer little choice. Law enforcement takes tremdous risks at every traffic stop. Given he had his infant and wife in the car he was an idiot in his actions. Evident by his interview he is very young and unbelievably naive and put his family through unecessary trauma.

MCVet...I can''t believe that your son is a cop by saying that. There is such things as esculation of force. That is different than excessive force. Excessive force would have been the officer pulling the subject out of the truck and throwing him down on the ground. The taser is an "Authorized" non lethal form of controlling a subject. If your son was a cop as you say he would have explained this to you.
Each traffic stop is different. You do not know who you are going to stop. There was no way knowing that if this driver was going to his vehicle to run away or go and get a gun. He refused to do what the officer told him to do as you watch the video he was told at least 5 times to turn around and put his hands behind his back.
