Comments on: FBI Reports Upsurge In Hate Crimes
Incidents Rose 8% In 2006; Race Continues To Account For More Than Half Of Reported Cases
- mandylou4u,
I don''t know how old you are, but I grew up in the 70s/80s and I think we are living on two different planets. I have seen police officers beating men over the head with sticks as they cried for them to stop. I have seen A LOT of mental illness in poor black communities that only gets resolved by sending people to prison. I have seen sadness beyond measure.
Slavery did not end that long ago. I say so because it was a huge fight in the 1960s to stop it. But, a lot of damage was done already. It takes longer to fix something that was destroyed than it takes to destroy it.
My aspiration was never to get on welfare, so I can''t tell you. None of my family members ever were. I can tell you that our government has more sadness for the rich than the poor, regardless of color. I went to a rich university and I can tell you some of the "gifts" I''ve seen there. - Reply to this comment

- whatithink,
This is exactly what most people are talking about. Things are not like this anymore! Black folks are not slaves anymore and haven''t been for a long time. What I am stressing is that when I was growing up, what I saw as a child, was that our government felt so bad for black people, that they gave them anything they wanted. All I saw was my family couldn''t get any help, but the black kids I grew up around all had better houses, food in their houses, yet no one in the house had a job or cared to get one either. These are the things I grew up with. My mom still taught me not to be prejuduce against anyone who had more than I. - Reply to this comment

- The biggest welfare recipients are large corporations and rich farmers. I''''m very surprised that a Christian society gives such a free pass to the rich in our nation while giving only contempt to the poor.

Oh, yea. They do it in the NAME of the poor, patriotism, religion.... that keeps the contempt misdirected to who''s name they do it in instead of them. - Reply to this comment

That is where I start to get confused. I, in no way, think Bush and Cheney are anywhere the same as Sharpton and Jackson. I don''''t get that point. The latter blow a lot of hot air. The former start wars that cost numerous lives and taxes. This is not the same to me.

Only in the sense they keep their sheep from rising up. Oh, Bush and Cheney are way worse. They use the sheeple not just hold them back. But all protect those above them by selling out. - Reply to this comment

The problems in the black community existed a long time before welfare was instituted. You should really read history more. Black men in this country were expected to be bulls to impregnate as many women as possible. Black families were not allowed to exist for the majority of time that blacks have been in America. Black women were always able to find work easier than black men.
I don''t know where you are going with this welfare topic. I do know that Reagan has a lot to be blamed for it, because the reality of things is not what has been portrayed. - Reply to this comment
- In 1935, the founder of the modern welfare state warned, "Continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber.

But social programs and foreign aid now, is to make you buy goods for other people. It''s a sure sale. Like Chinese products are not cheaper than US. A portion of the debt interest to China is used to fully pay for the products. Then you go to the store and buy ot again. Still, it''s all paid in full. They could toss the products in the ocean and still make profit. Social programs, NASA, and many others are mostly tax scams. - Reply to this comment

- In 1935, the founder of the modern welfare state warned, "Continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit." Franklin Roosevelt was right. What a shame that seven decades later Uncle Sam is still undermining the human spirit with this destructive narcotic.

- complain about Sharpton and Jackson if they also complained about Bush and Cheney, who have done more harm than about any other team in the last 10 years.

They are all rather the same. Bush and Cheney are just the over gatekeepers. They are all selfserving and compromised to international banks and corporations. And it all goes down the line from there. And down hill too. - Reply to this comment
- dogsoul,
Unemployment was lower under Clinotn than under Bush. Bush''s own Bureau of labor Statistics agrees with that. The downturn became a recession under Bush and Bush has never matched the economic growth or the budget surplus we had under Clinton. All economists will agree on that, Rush Limbaugh & friends at FoxNews will not.
Whether or not African countries are on a better economic track than we are is a more open question than you care to consider. The Roman Empire used to be on top too.
I have moved and I''m not surprized that you aren''t surprized by the race of my muggers. Obviously you think that proves a point.
Traitors, socialists, and racists? Aren''t you being a bit hard on yourself?
If you want to talk about how the black community reacted to the OJ case, why not also talk about how the white community reacted to the Simi Valley case which preceded it. The answer is, much in the manner that you are reacting here, deny the problem and blame the victim. - Reply to this comment

I think we revise history often. Nobody was demonized more than Martin Luther King, for example. He didn''t live lavishly, but then there were other issues. I would have more respect for people who complain about Sharpton and Jackson if they also complained about Bush and Cheney, who have done more harm than about any other team in the last 10 years. - Reply to this comment
- Yes, our monarch is good and he really represents the unity of the nation.

The point is that white men have been using their wealth always for the same reasons. So, why shouldn''''t any other type of male do the same thing? Nobody has ever called OJ a black hero...far from it. However, many blacks know what the police can do to "erase you" if they want to. I say "erase you" because that''''s what the Jena prosecutor told a group of black kids during an assembly.

Back in the 60''s they didn''t have all these gatekeepers milking it to make money. The Black Panthers had an armed militia. They didn''t go thumb sukking on Fox news with Sharpton and Jackson. One of the least known heros of civil rights was Fidel Castro who armed them. Got them many improvements. - Reply to this comment
- mandylou4u,
I have no idea what you mean. I do know there are plenty of white people on welfare. I think about 40% of the cases. I went to a school that gave free bus passes to the white students to get them to come into the city to attend. So, go figure. - Reply to this comment
