- So, basically you want them to be teachers AND babysitters. I see.

- onsteroids1, your lack of education is shining through.
I''m asking teachers to work from 8-3 with a lunch break. I''m asking them to actually teach a child rather than worrying about when their next vacation will be.
You have sorely underestimated the average teacher''s salary. Teacher''s get paid well for what they do. I work longer hours and more days a year and get paid less then most of the teachers I know.
I don''t expect them to take abuse from children, however, I do expect them to watch the children while the children are at school. That is what they get PAID to do. - Reply to this comment

- "I don''''t know where you live that schoolteachers make only 28,000 - maybe rural South Dakota? They average 60,000 in Oregon and Washington. For 8 months of work a year. At best. Schoolteachers don''''t always tell the truth when they whinning about how poorly they''''re paid. In Oregon they don''''t put in a penny fron their own pockets for their generous retirement package, nor a penny for their generous health package - dental included. They''''re very well taken care of, yet all they do is whine for more."
Well, the bad thing about money too is that some people will just do the work for the money. And they won''t like what they do. Teaching is a pretty unique skill. Needs a lot of patience. I couldn''t be a teacher. I got the patience of a bear with a bloody paw. Money tends to attract a lot of unskilled labor. - Reply to this comment
- What? Reading text from the Internet doesn''t count? Reading your buddies blog doesn''t count? Reading the news at CBS.COM doesn''t count? Must have been paid for by the book industry. I bet reading those video game cheat manuels doesn''t count as plessure reading either.

- onsteroids1, if someone chooses to become a teacher, he should do so because he truly wants to help a child, not becuase of the money. We cannot pay teachers more, because that would require higher taxes and we are already paying too much.
If teachers would stop worrying about get an hour for lunch and getting paid breaks in the am and pm, and making sure they are out of the building by 3 pm, you would have better students. Becuase then the teachers would actually care about the students and not themselves.
For the education they have and the hours they work, teachers are paid a fair salary. - Reply to this comment
- Just use yer imagination. Some people see consequence. Some people see conscience.
