WE WERE WARNED.

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
Dwight D. Eisenhower, January 17, 1961

You''re a joke. You''re desperately grasping at any straw that you can find to show corruption on the Democrats side, and no matter what paltry little straw you do manage to get a hold of, it pales in comparison to the "off the charts" fraud and waste commited by the Republicans.

The $250 million bridge to nowhere.
$700 Million dollars for Trent Lott to move a set of PRIVATELY OWNED railroad tracks one mile.
Hundreds of billions of dollars in no bid contracts for politically favored companies.
In 2006, under a republican president, Congress, and Senate, pork barrel spending was $29 billion dollars.

And you''re worried about some scumbag petty thief that stole $90,000? By the way he is being prosecuted - how about all of the fraud and thievery I just listed? Who is going to jail for that?

You have to get what you can, they arent going to catch every scam. And all these many smaller ones add up to hundreds of millions of Tax payer dollars.
And you have to accept that it does cost a lot to pay for this obscene war of stupid bull cra_p.
But, this also does something else, when the little guys are caught and jailed, it deters more little guys from doing it again, and the big ones that are much harder to catch with hands dirty cant do it without the little guys.

Like the Repug recipients of the Bushit no-bid contracts, the $1,000,000,000 unaccounted for in Iraq supposedly for "training", and the Blackwater and Halliburton $$ roundtrips from the Treasury to the RNC.

Correction - they lost a pallet of cash worth $9 billion dollars - not $1 billion.

Before the Iraq War, 71% of army contributions went to the Republican Party.
Now, only 51% of army contributions go to the GOP.
And, the Republican getting the most money from the uniformed military is:.....wait for it........Ron Paul.

This little side show is in the nature of a distraction to keep us from watching what the kingfish are doing. The biggest thieves are right here in the USA.

You got that right ACE, Jack "The Belgium Sow" Murtha 174,000,000 in pork for his district, king of corruption. What about Charles "So I lie a lot" Wrangell 7 figures to finance a building to be named after Charles Wrangell. Cold cash Jefferson of LA 90,000 in bribe money in his freezer.
Hillary Clinton, fraudulent campaign contributions in the millions. Having a guy who was squeeling on her thrown in a Brazillian jail to intimidate him. People, supposedly Chinese, making campaign. contributions who don''t exist.
Nancy Pelosi, minimum wage increase for everywhere but Guam? Guam is where her friends businesses would have taken a hit by raising the minimum wage.

CHICKENFEED! These are the little fish. Throw them back and get the big fish who rip us off for tens and hundreds of millions of dollars, not a paltry $800K!

Like the Repug recipients of the Bushit no-bid contracts, the $1,000,000,000 unaccounted for in Iraq supposedly for "training", and the Blackwater and Halliburton $$ roundtrips from the Treasury to the RNC.

Halliburton moved to Dubai because Dubai does not have extradition agreements with the United States therefore the corporate heads of Halliburton cannot be brought back to the United States to face their crimes unless they are put on rendition flights and kidnapped like all those terrorists and innocent people are.

Exactly!

I personally expect Cheney and maybe Dumbya to end up living in Dubai for that very reason.

Here it is again .. FRAUD, FRAUD, FRAUD. Can''t find $35 BILLION more for children''s health care but can keep throwing millions down the sewer hole called Iraq. Why are not more people and Generals fired in the Pentagon for allowing this to continue? I guess this proves those looking for the CEO type President realize they are as inept in government and they are in running their own businesses.

Easy to cut through the Republican lies and obfuscation in the posts below.

The deficit has exploded, and corruption is widespread. The dollar is crashing and oil is skyrocketing directly because of the war. The war hurts US companies getting oil contracts. with just the war costs so far, we could put solar collectors on 50 million U.S. homes to generate more electricity than we will ever get from Iraq. Contrators are alleged to have sold weapons to our enemies and engaged in child S*x trafficing -- with minimal or no prosecution.

There is no justification for the war, and it is causing great harm to vital U.S. interests.

For the few Republicans remaining out there Bush has fed you lies and you have been made to appear as a liar by repeating his lies. He will abandon you and the soldiers as well. Watch Republicans cut veteren''s benefits and deny the existance of gulf war syndromes, and Democrats work to provide services.

Bush (H.W.) stood by while Saddam gasses the Kurds and said nothing...then we liberated armed and trained them...now, we are helping Turkey to kill them...Bush has no moral compass and his word is worth nothing.,..

And, to the editors at CBS -- I do sincerely want to thank you for allowing a free discussion in these forums. Thank you!

Yes CBS should be commended for the comment system here, which as one can see, people can regulate themselves on the whole, and when anyone pops in hear and says anything racist etc, or downright idiotic they get shot down in flames.

Although with Bush%u2019s H.R. 1955 coming your way soon I think we%u2019re in the last days of the CBS News comment era.

The BBC news website moderates every single comment !! State controlled TV and we HAVE to by law pay them 372 dollars each year for the privilege!

Re: Points made by AntiZion, yes a lot more people should inform themselves much more deeply as to what''s really going on, I personally say similar things as you do. Interesting comments, thanks.

Ode To Ret@rd Michelle99

There was a ****
She dun tried so hard
But shez so stupid
An her tw@t so putrid
The neighborhood joke
She spreads ''''em for a poke
But the smell was so foul
She wiped it with a towell
Her brain is so scrambled
She babbles drools and rambles
All we do is wish
That this tw@t who smells of fish
Would run way far away
And post elsewhere all day

Now run along Michelle
You could clean up gutters well
There''''s work for dopes like you
Maybe cage cleaner in a zoo
Theres no need to worry
If you run and hurry
You can give your brain to science
And win a home appliance
Like a spaghetti strainer
Which is fuller than YOUR no brainer
