Since marijuana is America''s #1 cash crop, BILLIONS of dollars are going right into the hands of the people who grow it and sell it regardless of prohibition.
The "war on drugs" is a drug dealer''s best friend because it creates a huge black market where they have a monopoly on all profits.

The only way it would work is if you stayed PERMANENTLY BUZZED. Wow, what a life!

erasmus6 - For some people, marijuana is the only anti-depressant that works. I guess you can find support for any position you care to take on this issue.

Whatever happened to the Republican concept of limited government???

It''d be nice to have a political option that was not nanny-state left vs. nanny-state right....

It is a well known fact that marijuana is very bad for your memory. And when you have people like klingon69 introducing it to their kids, then that is a REAL PROBLEM.

Marijuana use is a serios issue (period). Sometimes when people are young, they can do a number of foolish things.
Schwartznegger is known to be a man with libertine tastes and a somewhat wild past.
Marijuana leaves long lasting tar deposits in the brain; creates premature senility; has been known to cause severe depression in many individuals, plus is TEN times more likely to cause lung cancer than cigarettes.
Marijuana causes serious disruptions in memory and judgement, not good stuff for leaders to use.

"However Alcohol is physically addictive whereas marijuana isn''''t." posted by ttinsly

Marijuana may not be physically addictive, but it IS mentally addictive.

I had friends that smoked it everyday and they WERE mentally addicted.

Now they are saying it can cause mental problems in some people, when they get older. And there isn''t anything worse than a person that has depression to smoke or drink for that matter. And of course it is quiet often the people that are depressed that do smoke it and all it is doing is making their depression worse.

Every year they seem to be finding out that it isn''t as harmless as they thought.

rushman71,

Allowing foreign contributors to sleep at the White House is sleazy but does no harm to the security of the U.S.

Lying to go to war and outing the CIA''s Iranian nuke operation are treason...sort of like trading arms for hostages.

When you look at the rampant death and disease attributable to the legal drug of alchohol (and even tobacco), you can''t help but wonder. Yes, you can grow accustomed to marijuana and enjoy its use. But if one day, for whatever reason, you decide to stop, the reins are totally in your hands. There may be a habit of the mind to be dealt with, but there is at least nothing in your bloodstream undermining your resolve.

Legalize pot, tax it, control its distribution - use that tax money on law enforcement - and law enforcement stops using millions on policing the illegal transportation and sale.....it''s a win/win situation for the US.

Look what happened during Prohibition - it made crime more rampant - when it''s legalized it''s easier to control, distribute and police.
