V.P. Hunts Birds At N.Y. Private Club Where Flag Is Hung; Says He Never Saw It
- Why am I wasting my time with BenderBG, who is "disputing" a fact so well known in history ?
Would a mathematician waste time arguing with someone who disputes that 1 + 1 = 2 ? - Reply to this comment

If I WERE that young I"d be rushing around now to beat your adolescent time limit.
Why should I have to name 12 when you haven"t named one yet ?
Here, I"ll give you a BIG NAME and his BIG BOOK:
Historian: John Keegan
Book: The Second World War (published in 1989)
See Chapter 24: "Stalin"s Strategic Dilemma"
Your turn, mavin. - Reply to this comment

- Iceman, that should be your motto: "I meant..."
I could name more historians than your age (15-16?) who wholeheartedly disagree with your *logic*, but won''t.
What''s say you name 12 well-known historians who agree with you. I want names, contact information, and credentials.
You have 10 minutes. Tick-tock. - Reply to this comment
- "No competent historian disagrees with the statement that if Russia had had to face the full weight of the German armed forces, it would have fallen."
Nor did Stalin himself, who repeatedly implored Churchill and Roosevelt to hurry up with the invasion of Italy and the D Day landing, to take the heat off him by tying up more German forces in the West. - Reply to this comment
- "Recent archives also state..."
I meant, archived documents recently discovered. - Reply to this comment

You"re an historian ? Where do you teach ? I want to warn my nephews not to apply there.
When your capital city is on the verge of falling to the enemy, that is not a good sign at all. Ask Jefferson Davis.
Recent archives also state that at that time, Joseph Stalin was sending out secret "feelers" to the Germans, offering them permanent control of all the areas that had captured, in return for peace.
No competent historian disagrees with the statement that if Russia had had to face the full weight of the German armed forces, it would have fallen.
Name one well known historian who disagrees with that statement. - Reply to this comment
- It''s quite possible that he was so drunk that he did not see the flag.

Or so blind he thought Whittington was a quail....

Indeed, I think he''s going to have to concede one or the other. I think the drunk scenario makes the most sense, given the amount of time they waited to let anyone know. - Reply to this comment
- Iceman, once again your *facts* are opinion.
*Almost* lost? How does one almost lose?
Like the way we *almost* one in Vietnam?
I didn''t come here to get involved in your little game, just wanted to get the facts straight.
PS I am an historian, and I disagree with you 100%. - Reply to this comment

Why was he hiding at all ?
Condi Rice (a far more valuable member of the Administration than empty suit Dubya) refused Secret Service requests that she join the flight into hiding, and remained in her Washington D.C. office. - Reply to this comment
- Theory No. 2: The Confederate Flag is often confused with the Nazi flag. It may have been furled in such a way, at the time, that he just assumed it was a Nazi flag, a common relic of WWII that conservatives often keep around as a fond reminder of what almost came to pass.

- And where was Bush after the 9/11 attacks ? Hiding in Nebraska under much heavier guard than Osama could command.

- "Iceman, I recommend that you brush up on history, specifically WWII. It was the Russians, and not the US who ended Hitler"s reign of terror. The US, Frogs, Brits, et al only cleaned up the mess in the backyard. C"mon guy."

If the Soviet Union had had to fight Germany alone, if Hitler had been fighting a one-front war against his former ally Stalin, the Russians would have gone under.
Ask any historian.
As it was, they almost lost. - Reply to this comment

- An interesting point that nobody talks about is the fact that when Cheney shot a man in the face, the authorities were not told about it until after enough time had elapsed for him to sober up. It''s quite possible that he was so drunk that he did not see the flag.
