Southern White Republicon are jinGOPigs, jinGOPigs, jinGOPigs all the way. No one group of traitors have ever lived in the contiguous USA as have these Southern jinGOPigs. Time to undo the damage done to the USA by yet another Republicon, Abraham Lincoln, and demand a national referndum by the summer of 2008 to vote the original Confederate States out of the United States. Then the international community will immediately charachterize the Confederate States as the number one terrorist state on earth. Heavy handed economic sanctions will soon follow..........

the infallibility principle of the government
is at stake here. as civil servants they
receive divine dispensation and are under divine
authority. i come from o''bama alabama with
a banjo on my knee. the principle is that
the People too are infallible, cannot make a mistake.
and this is why the majority of the People are
never wrong. always right. stephen decatur hero
of the war on the barbary pirates put it this
way, i hope my country is in the right, but my
country right or wrong.

Symbols are important and can evoke strong emotions and associations. I think people have a right to fly a confederate flag (albeit in bad taste and poor judgement). For some the confederate flag is a symbol of southern culture. For others, it is a symbol of a divided America and slavery. It is also a symbol of a defeated South, history does not change that fact. I would rather fly the Stars and Stripes because this is a symbol of freedom and strength.
I don''t care where Cheney hunts....it doesn''t change the fact of his record of poor leadership and giveaways to oil and military interests. Cheney has demonstrated contempt for open, honest, and moral leadership.

"people in the south look at the flag as a way to support their herritage, not as supporting racism"

Absolute BS - I was born in the south. I spent many years selling electronics to mainly small businesses in NC - TN - SC - GA - FL. Later I sold oilfield electronics in OK - TX - LA. I visited hundreds of businesses that displayed Confederate flags. You could rest assured of an emotional diatribe from almost every displayer and it was not about the Federalist papers or Grandpa''s contributions to antebellum society.

In my opinion, display of any flag in any manner is protected political speech - but to claim the Confederate flag is not almost always a symbol of antagonisnm toward non-whites is absurd.

I thought Cheney got five deferments to keep from shooting guns... Oh, that was to avoid the draft.
Suddenly he''''s brave now: he can overpower a duck.

He has always been brave against anything that can''t shoot back !!

PS-The Confederate flag was the flag flown during war times. I think anyone should have a right to fly a Confederate flag if they want. However, your party will probably ban flying any flag.

This whole article is just plain stupid. Then again, this is cbs. Now, how about covering a real flag "flap" story. So, tell us libs, just what has you all knotted up about the flag folding ceremony? Just why the hard ons? Don''t like the reference to God? Would you all prefer a reference to allah. My God,people, can''t your party get anything productive done?

I''m a white southerner who doesn''t have a problem removing the confederate flag from public places or private places for that matter. Whether it was ever a symbol of hate will be debated ad nauseum, point being the people who use it today are primarily trying to get a rise out of others for which they bear hate (exception: Ole Miss). The image to outsiders and internationals is clearly negative, and only serves to harm the progressive south that is "rising again" economically in some of the country''s fastest growing cities (Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, etc.). The heritage of the south is best served as a plate of steaming food, as history in the beautiful coastal empire cities of Charleston, Savannah, and New Orleans, as rich musical heritage birthing jazz/country/rock, and as a whoopin'' in college football and basketball. Embrace the past and future everyone can be proud of.
