J, we are not yet in a defined recession according to the data. GDP is still rising but probably much slower.

We are definitely in a SLOWDOWN. Been following the 3rd quarter financial results coming out last week and this week. Some are good but the financial industries are in the toilet. Microsoft/Apple had big upsides in their financial results.

We might still escape the academically defined recession and jobs are still growing. I personally am invested for recession.

"Blame ***** Bill because Gore should have EASILY won. Gore did not even carry his home state because of Clinton''''s sexual preoccupation with himself"--Posted by donbl1

Gore DID win. If Bushit''s brother and a crooked 5 SCOTUS judges hadn''t intervened, he would have been Prez, no doubt. Strange how they stopped the vote counting just when Bushit had slightly edged ahead, before they could recount pro-Dem districts. Sure, Clinton could have helped more, but so what?

J, that is a lot of money but not insurmountable.

With the war ratcheting down, the budget might be balanced by the beginning of the next president''s term. In 10 years, that $9T (2007 dollars) will only look like $4.5T in 2017 dollars. Debt is not bad for a government UNLESS they need to add more to fight a recession......

J, my point is that what seems inevitable today is not usually the outcome.

Our wealth is in the hundreds of trillions of dollars. Our economy alone is several trillion. Without the American consumer, China goes into depression. They know it. We are in this together.

J, in 1989, the Japanese were pressing for California as a "free trade zone" and wanted the money to be one sided US and the other side the Yen...... hard to believe now.

The real danger with Chinese is them buying up oil sources with all that money. They tried to buy the Canadian shale which is already outputting 1M barrels per day to the US. China, last year, made a $480B offer for Exxon.

George, it is good to see that CNN has realized we are in an El Nino/La Nina cycle.

I saw an article that said it was Global Warming.....all .7C of it. Just yellow journalism.

If I was one of these poor souls with a burned residence and came home to find (a) a newscaster or (b) a politician standing in front of it flapping their jib and pretending like they gave a s**t, I would be in jail before the day was out. It''s enough to turn your stomach watching Bush & Co. AND THE MEDIA!!! ABSOLUTELY NAUSEATING!!!! These people have enough to deal with, LEAVE THEM ALONE!!! Get the money to them and then GO AWAY!!!!

J, in 1989 BW ran a front page article that said the Japanese were buying America. Remember? They bought so much stuff that it was unbelievable. They bought many very American symbols.

The Japanese then started a decade long decline which included the dreaded deflation. In the end, they sold those symbols for much less than they paid for them.

I am not worried about the Chinese or Europeans. I am worried about corporate and personal tax law and any other government law that decreases the entreprenurial energy that has made America.

--- These wars under neo-con leadership is actually presenting more of a threat to our nation than Terrorism or any Nuclear Threat.
--- CBO Director Peter Orszag met with members of the House Budget committee on Wednesday and told them, "It''s clear under analysis that the nation is on an unstable fiscal path ... with the higher debt and interest costs."
--- Our very real economic problems are spilling over into Europe --------- CAN YOU SAY, "GOOD BYE US DOLLAR -- HELLO CHINESE YEN & EURO" ??????
