"Western forest"???? Did some idiot actually use the term "western forest"? Boy - factually challenged!

San Diego doesn''t have forests. We have scrubbrush. The area that is burning now, far from being overprotected by environmentalists, actually burned 4 years ago. But scrubbrush grows back fast, and burns easily.

Malibu homes make a fun image - multi-million dollar mansions burning - but most of these homes are normal homes for normal people - and not in Malibu.

It''s a bad thing - normal Santa Ana winds are bad enough, but with worse than usual ones, anything might happen. Anyone want to take a guess why we''re starting to get them worse than usual? Lasting several days rather than one?

I live close to San Diego and the state of california, these people have wild fires and they lose their houses to fires and rain and mood slides constantly. Every year there is a fire that eats 100 ds of houses and mood slides and costal erosion that destroy their places. Are they going to learn not to build in the path of nature and try to destroy the environment with their luxurious bog polluting houses and live like the rest of humanity in normal houses without invaiding nature.
Well, there you GO!

Who is Ron Paul? Posted by SaveTheUS2

Is he the guy who sells those nifty appliances on infomercials (I love my RonCo potato peeler) or the trans-vestite DJ from MTV in the late 90s??

cdegolier, Have you ever even set foot in the woods? For the most part, logging companies are not interested in dead trees. Nor are they interested in smaller trees that represent the greatest fire threat. Those big, juicy old growth trees are what they want and its those trees that don''t burn readily. In fact, the bigger, more valuable trees help to shade out the smaller, more flammable vegetation. Understand? Frankly, in most areas characterized by catastrophic wildfires and appalling property damage, there is little or no marketable timber to log. I grew up in SoCal and I can tell you that the brush fires will come every year. Trees can''t even get a foothold in most places! In almost ten years fighting fire for the USFS, I saw logged areas left in a state that was more fire-prone than pre-harvest conditions. The biggest fires in the West were in 1910 and since then, American forests have become choked with fuel from 100 years of USFS fire suppression. Also, I have yet to meet a "hippy" who opposes controlled burning (you''ll have to get past the air quality officials first). I''d love to find out what scholarly sources you are quoting when you type such apparently ignorant statements. You really do have a lot to learn, if you''re willing. I have lots more for you.

With the comments that you see on these boards I would imagine that you are quite shocked with some of the postings that you read in this forum. Is it fair to say that there are just as many people in your country that have different pionts of view only they express them with respect and without the insults that you see here?

In today''''s high tech environment, wouldn''''t it be a possibility to shut down electrical current instantly when there is a break in the power line? I don''''t get it. It seems that downed power lines are responsible for so many fires.

Downed power lines always cause problems. Does anyone know why power lines are not buried like gas lines and phone lines are? I would think to put them underground would solve many problems.

Good Evening SuhaAlNafa

I have seen your posts in the past & you seem pretty objective on most subjects. I have to ask. Are you posting from Syria? If so, do you have be careful of what you post? I''m curious if there are censorship issues there like there are in China.

Hey pahmahweenie: You are seriously disturbed! What''s the big deal about evacuation? Remember Katrina and how they were helped? There are disasters all over this country all the time! If you live in the midwest, you probably have tornados or floods, boy I''m sick of those too and those whiners! Also the hurricanes, every year, it''s the same thing! Yes, I''m being sarcastic. People live where they want to live, they live in CA cuz they don''t want to live near you or in the south, midwest or east. Get over yourself and have some empathy for your fellow man. Lives do count but your moronic opinion is tasteless. And we don''t all drive around in VW vans with the peace sign, puhleeeeze. Most of those people not living in Malibu are regular working folk, they deserve a chance as much as anyone else. I never realized what a bunch of haters there are out there.

Actually the only people to blame for this day and ages mega fires (which are only going to get worse) are the loony environmentalist who would not allow controlled burns or the logging companies to clean out the dead trees. So now with these mega fires are actually killing the western forest because the years of accumulated kindling the environmentalist would not allow to be cleaned out. Thank You Hippy idiots!!
