Al Sharpton Calls 18-Month Sentence For Mychal Bell "Cruel And Unusual Punishment"
- You would not want to live in Jena. I am from Louisiana; by far Jena, Louisiana is the most prejudice city in Louisiana.
I think both Barker and Mychal''''s punishment should be the same. Two wrong doesn''''t make a right. It is unfair for them to punish one and not the other.

And you base this accusation on what? Other than some racial slurs, what did Barker do? According to all the newsstories I read, all he did was taunt the black boy that was beat at the party. However, Bell and a gang of hooligans ambushed, beat, rendered unconcious and then continued the attack even after the victim was unable to defend himself. That is brutality for the mere sake of it. No, the three who hung the nooses should be punished, and I understand that they were suspended and had to attend counselling for it. So, what you are saying is that taunting and teasing is the same as physically assaulting someone? - Reply to this comment

I tried to reply last time, but CBS said my username and password was invalid. Anyway here goes:
About the party, I have asked and received no answer yet, whose party was it? Was the party school-sponsered? If it was private, was the person asked/told to leave and refused? Did he crash the party? There are alot of unanswered questions on that point.
As for the gun, he brought it to school after the beating. Was there threats made or implied toward him that may have made him fear for his life or safety? How do you know that the man at the convenience store was not threatened/ menaced into needing to pull a gun. Truthfully, they did take his gun and leave with it, technically, that is stealing.
Don''t know about the incident in Florida, but if true, the perps should be severly punished. As for the missing black women, maybe the reason you hear so much when white women are missing is that their families have the money and keep it in the spotlight. As for the young black lady tortued by the 6 in West VA, there was quite a bit of outrage expressed here, so that would become a moot point, but, where is the outrage for the young couple kidnapped, raped, tortured and murdered by the 5-6 blacks? Where is the outrage for the young white girls raped by the basketballers in Cali?
Haven''t followed the Michael Vick story, but have seen dog fights, and the aftermath. Very cruel, have seen the black trash bags with the torn bodies in them. - Reply to this comment
- The charges should be dropped. What kind of ignorant morons hang up nooses and say no blacks allowed? And just forget it. Blacks, Whites... you are the same. You kill and are sadistic to yourselves by the scores, then when one does to the other you make a big deal out of it.

- There wouldn''''t be such a problem if the black man was actually accountable for something instead of just whining how unfair and racist everything is.

Excellent points...although in my book if a girl has kids from many different men (can''t call them fathers)
she is no better than the sperm donors. She is also part of the problem. - Reply to this comment
- Jesse Jackson and all the rest of the black and white supporters who came down to support (riot if need be) cannot and should not try to change (force) the justice system to dismiss these kinds of crimes. It actually goes against what they supposedly stand for; not to be discriminated against. They''re asking for a slap on the hand for criminal punishment just because these kids are black. You don''t see anybody coming from around the world to ask the same for a white person who has commited the same crime. There would be such an outcry, rioting would insue. We''ve moved beyond that but some people still keep it alive. They are the minority not the majority. Most people these days accept all races, few still do not and keep it alive. Some may even stage it to keep it going. I wouldn''t doubt that if someone has an agenda (Jesse and his kind). That professor had a noose hung on her door too. Agenda, Agenda. What''s on the agenda for today?

- Although this crime is a result of a noose being hung in a tree, it fails to see that something was going on way before the noose. It''s hatred on both sides that accumulates over time until something has to give. It''s one thing to have an opinion albeit a hate filled one, but it is an altogether different situation once someone puts their hands on another human being. Free speech is for everyone not just minorities who are among the biggest haters in the world. Their hate stems from many centuries of hate passed down from father to son so it is kept alive in the hearts of our/their young people. Racism is on both sides; as we can see from the beating these black boys gave this white boy. And it''s also been done by whites to blacks for years. Whoever is guilty of a criminal act should be punished. It''s the law. We can''t pick and choose who should be punished and who should not.

IM NOT SURE ON THE "TECHNICAL TERMS" OF CHARGES BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THE GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH SEVERAL THINGS...TERRORIST THREATS, THREAT TO DO BODILY HARM, RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF ANOTHERS LIFE, IM SURE THERES PLENTY OF CHARGES WE COULD NAIL HIM WITH...THATS WHAT MY POINT IS..THE "AL SHARPTONS" SHOULD BE PROTESTING FOR ALL CHARGES TO BE PUT ON THIS BARKER AND LOCK HIM UP TOO...BUT TO FREE THE 6...NO...THEY DID THE CRIME....DO THE TIME...AND THE RACIAL IN JUSTICE IS THAT BARKER SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND GOTO COURT TOO... - Reply to this comment

So what do you think they should have done to Barker? Nothing?
Which is absolutely what they did. That is not right!!
How would you feel if someone made racial remarks toward you and put a rifle to your head?
What would you? Let me guess you would call the POLICE huh?
Shut up! - Reply to this comment
- 18 MO WAS NOT THE PUNISHMENT FOR THE BEATING...READ THE ARTICLE DUH...ITS FOR PROBATION VIOLATION...ON CHARGES FROM BEFORE THIS BIG MESS EVEN OCCURED

- Cruel and unusual? I wonder what Sharpton would call the "a$$ whuppin''" they gave the guy they beat.
Regardless why they beat him, they assaulted someone--severely for that, jail time seems appropriate. And given that they beat that kid unconscious, 18 months does NOT seem excessive. - Reply to this comment

You are agreeing with me now, but once before you were talking a bunch of *** about Mychal Bell, shouldn''t run around like a ape assulting people.
You didn''t say anything about Barker''s actions.

- I agree! Both parties are wrong...so why isn''''t their punishment equal?
Posted by Hello252 at 10:37 AM : Oct 12, 2007
because the crimes were not equal. - Reply to this comment
- "He''s locked up again," Marcus Jones said of his 17-year-old son. "No bail has been set or nothing. He''s a young man who''s been thrown in jail again and again, and he just has to take it."
Sounds to me like once a thug always a thug. I know as a parent is always hard to admit that your child may be a thug...but after repeat offenses you just have to question yourself...and may be teach him a lesson or two...three... - Reply to this comment
- The noose is a symbol of white rage and is political speech. Therefore it is protected by the first admendment. those who hung the nooses have been prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed. They were suspended.

I AGREE THAT BOTH OF THE ACTIONS YOU ARE SPEAKING OF ARE CRIMES, AND I AGREE THAT THEY BOTH MUST BE PUNISHED, BUT THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT CRIMES WITH DIFFERENT PUNISHMENTS (AND BTW, I AGREE WITH YOU ON WANTING TO KICK THIER ***) BUT THE FACT IS THREATENING TO DO BODILY HARM AND ACTUALLY GOING THROUGH WITH HARMING SOMEONE...WELL ITS NOT THE SAME PUNISHMENT....IM NOT SAYING THEY ARENT EQUALLY WRONG AND MUST BOTH SERVE A SENTENCE....BUT THEY ARE APPLES AND ORANGES NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLES PERSONAL FEELINGS ARE.....IF THE GUY WITH THE GUN SHOT THE GUY WHO BEAT HIM UP THE NEXT DAY...WOULD U PUNISH THEM THE SAME WAY??? NO...U WOULDNT (AND ACTUALLY IF HE SHOT HIM WHILE THE FIGHT OCCURED IT WOULD BE SELF DEFENSE) BUT THATS GETTING OFF TRACK...THE LAW IS PRETTY CUT AND DRY...IF WE DONT LIKE THE LAWS WE MUST CHANGE THEM, NOT TAKE THE LAW INTO OUR OWN HANDS... - Reply to this comment
