Jean Valjean showed us one type of human, Thinardier and Javert two others but if you ask me, the old priest was the epitome of the best qualities in man. - Reply to this comment
- I do think it is a shame, that people know longer can do practical jokes--but we seem to swing either to one extreme or the other--blindly ignoring stuff or going overboard accusing and arresting everyone. I bet if Toolmangler had got in trouble and cops had gone to his home, they would not have found books on how to kill a lot of people with bombs or a die hard interest in amassing diaries or clippings of how to bomb people. That is the difference. This kid has issues. Maybe he was all talk--but then again, maybe he wasn''t--or worse yet--he was not that serious, but he befriends someone who is and ends up being caught up in something going along for the ride.
These days there are certain things we can no longer do--threaten to kill a lot of people, pretend we have a bomb or chemicals to harm large groups, play around with weapons. Here is another point: how sad would it be, if this boy bragged, then brought one of the air rifles to school and before they ascertained what he really carried, the boy was shot and killed by security? These are the times we live in, we must all learn a new walk and also--we must learn what is taboo due to mass paranoia and devastating truth in these times.
Sad that it has come to this--but here we are. - Reply to this comment

- MyIDonCBS look just because there are nut jobs out there that take religion to far don''t lump all Christians in there and I will not lump all ASH together.
Prayer in schools has nothing to do with this it has to do with the parents not taking the time to communicate with their kids. Parents continue to allow computers and TV to watch their kids and this is what is happening plan and simple. I have heard the aruments that we both work and it is hard to make time for the family and that is BS. My wife and I both work and though both of us can not always be at the functions together all the time at least one of us makes the time to be there supporting them and we always make time to talk with them and find out what is going on in their lives.
My final thought if you made the time to great them than you can make the time to raise them. - Reply to this comment
- Cho was very knowledgeable about guns and he seemed to be able to order, buy and shoot them pretty well as he walked through VA Tech killing people. So I guess his parents must have done their jobs--he seemed to respect his weapons, knew how to handle them--but what was the catch?
Oh yeah--he was a very angry and frustrated person who knew a lot about guns and how to handle them--enough not to hurt himself as he killed over 30 others.
Think about what you all are saying. As for what weapons a child has--last I heard--a knife or single shot rifle can kill you just as dead as a true assault rifle--but maybe....while we count up the bodies, we can admire the way the kids handled the guns. Like a real pro. Right.
All you gun lovers and aficionados need to rethink what you are saying--How many of you also watch videos or amass clippings of serial killings or mass murders at highschools? How many of you keep diaries of violence or brag about committing mass murder?
Do not ever think that just because you respect life and use your guns properly, that everyone else will. Obviously they won''t. The telling point for this kid are the videos, clippings and diaries of violence--the amassing of any type of weapons means he could be more serious than you would be. - Reply to this comment

Excellent point, A Chimpanzee can be trained to ''safely'' handle a gun, But it responds to an entirely different stimuli than you or I. - Reply to this comment
- You can''t stop this kind of stuff. He was making the "grenades" himself. (I''m surprised there isn''t a store called Grenades-R-Us somewhere. A well-regulated militia needs grenades.)
If the kid thinks his parents will find his
"arsenal" in his bedroom then he''ll just find some secret hiding place in the woods to stash it.
Can you outlaw bullies & make everyone strong so there is no weak person left to pick on? No.
Can you make high school a pleasant, stress-free experience for every student? No. - Reply to this comment

The reference to the timelines and violence seems to be making note of a two very huge shifts in society at the same time. People were seeking relief from a restrictive Church hierarchy and all that entails. Instead of the Church working to defuse the situation they switch to an attack mode and ''throw'' missionaries'' at it. This causes a like reaction in the other side and they start rejecting the church and all it stands for (good and bad). This polarizes society at two extremes that tend to leave no middle ground. At this time the pendulum is winging toward the anarchist way of total freedom and steadily rejecting any restraint at all. Had there been a middleground both extremes would not have pulled society so far so fast. A friend of mine is want to say "All things in moderation". I tend to agree (with reserve). more later - Reply to this comment
- What good does it do for parents to teach their kids how to respect and properly use fire arms if they fail to teach them to respect other people and themselves and most of all to manage their stress and anger?
To know how to properly handle a gun, does not mean squat, except that if a very angry teen who''s been trained goes rampaging, he will know how to handle his gun, without hurting himself. A lot of you gun whizzes appear to really miss the point on this. Who cares what kind of guns he has or if he can handle them if he can shoot people? Now tell us what kind of kid he is, and how he handles his frustrations and anger...because THAT more than anything will determine if he is a threat. That cop that just went on the warpath and killed 6 in WI was a whiz with guns too--now 6 are dead---***? So if a kid knows how to handle a gun, he won''t hurt himself if/when he gets angry enough to shoot others? *** are you all saying? - Reply to this comment
- Wow, all this gun knowledge is very impressive(NOT)
But tell us, oh great hunters and gun enthusiasts--if a kid decides to take this 9mm or another gun to a school and shoot someone--can it or can it not kill a person? See, the hole in all the talk and expertise is the fact that this kid has said he wanted to do some payback, has guns that can shoot bullets, has videos of the Columbine shootings (which may demonstrate a fixation) and is assembling grenades.
Now, you can talk about hunting or how the writer did not know his guns--but the point is that a child is amassing weaponry at the same time as he is obsessed with killing at a highschool. Is it just talk? Who knows--but wouldn''t any of us hate to be wrong and watch or learn that even one person was killed because they did not take this kid and his notebooks seriously?
And yes I am a gun owner--but I am also a mother who would never buy her kids weapons or encourage a fixation with them. I find it not more than a little curious that most sociopaths who go on to be serial killers--have a fixation not only with weapons but also with using knives to torture and skin small animals. Not saying this is the case here--but this is disturbing --and I don''t care how far the gun can shoot--If it can shoot a bullet--then someone can die from it. - Reply to this comment
- It would appear that the mother is complicit. I find it odd that the government would arrest a teen for claiming to want to do a Virginia Tech style massacre in an email--but hesitate to prosecute to the full extent of the law - a child that has not only the weaponry, but has also indicated he would like to perform such an act.
To say he was just "kidding" or wanting to look tough, negates the fact he had already assembled grenades, had the weaponry, was surrounded by videos and notebooks full of violence. Obviously, his parents must be some people with clout or connections--other wise the police would not be so understanding and would already have busted the parents for not only being accessories--but also for contributing to deliquency of a minor. - Reply to this comment
- I was glad to see SOMEBODY actually got to the heart of this growing problem in this blog. PARENTS ..... if your child is a bully, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to correct this behavorial flaw in your child by WHATEVER MEANS NECCESSARY !!!!!! How many of you have seen that stupid (expletive) bumper sticker that reads "My kid can beat up your A student" ? Can your kid survive a .45 to his chest ?! Methinks NOT !!!! It''s high time we stopped dismissing "BULLYS" as just another stage of adolescense. IT IS GETTING INNOCENT CHILDREN KILLED.

Strange, I NEVER prayed in school. Yet I''ve NEVER shot anyone either! Didn%u2019t seem to work on me!
BTW, What timeline are you using? When do YOU think "prayer was removed from school"?
Church and State were SEPARATED AT BIRTH in this country, but various forms of prayer have taken place in school, AND STILL DO, TO THIS VERY DAY.
Basically, I think that Republicans and Christians will just believe any old *** that happens to support their current set of prejudices-- prejudices which actually shift radically over time-- and they absolutely refuse to believe anything that does not conform to their current prejudices, EVEN IF the thing they refuse to believe has been proven scientifically, beyond any reasonable doubt, to be true.
In other words, they are all legally IN-SANE. - Reply to this comment
- "Is our Childrens learning?" asked the Chimp.
"Yes, they''ve learned to use guns to kill people that irritate them" is the reply brought to you by this and the other recent stories of kids and their guns.
WE DON''T NEED ANY MORE GUNS IN THIS COUNTRY! We already have more than enough to kill ourselves with (90 guns per each 100 people). The NRA can just get stuffed!!
What was that kid''s mother thinking when she bought her 14 year old a 9mm assault rifle? They must be "survivalist Christians" aka terrorists, given that they live in PA and are home schooling, both groups being mostly "Christians". - Reply to this comment

I thought that was one of the best pranks I have ever seen. (wish we had thought of it) I don''t think they should have done anything to those kids except take them to the other school and make them apologize at assembly. (but I still laugh at the thought of it.) brains like that should be rewarded not penalized. - Reply to this comment

- What they need is a coach with an aerodynamic board who knows how to hand out licks to the bullies, punks, and bozos. Put metal detectors at the gate of the schools and give the authority back to the parents and teachers to discipline their kids in love. When the government makes prayer, the bible, and discipline illegal in the public schools, it sends a message that the walls are down and the gate is open to whatever you want to do. Look at the time-line of when prayer was removed from schools and the trend of mass shootings in schools. We can''t be this blind can we?
