Court Throws Out Conviction Against Black Teen In Beating Of White Schoolmate
- Matters such as these, i.e. isolated racial incidents between blacks and whites, pale in comparison to the "bigger" picture, which are internal struggles within the black social/psychological collective consciousnesses.
Blacks have much larger "fish" to fry than focusing all their attention on these isolated incidents, for example, dealing with black on black crime, drug distribution and addiction, single-parent households now 70% and absentee fathers [post-slavery bastardization], high percentages of AIDS among African American women, over-representation of black males in prison, high-percentages of black males dropping out of high-school, while black females top black males enrollment in college, the lack of black entrepreneurship, while Asians and Arabs businesses thrive in black communities, low percentage of black homeowners, and the failing inner-city public school systems.
A huge problem of monumental proportion, "positive black male leadership", which if there was more positive male role models, then problems such as these would lessen.
I mean, where are the Patrice Lumumba''s, the Malcolm X''s, the Merger Ever''s, the Martin Luther King''s, etc. etc. we have such sporadic examples of positive black male role models, so that whenever one surfaces black folks will hold him up as an example for the entire race, case and point, Tiger Woods'' father, you don''t see white folks exampling white males in this respect - Reply to this comment
- About Jena Six, I heard something on Michael Baison [black D.J.], a caller commented she heard the racial animosity between blacks and whites has been a long standing issue, and why, until now, didn''t black folks address this issue, and the reply she got was, "this is the way it was and we just accepted it".
Now I don''t know about you but I have a problem with that response, for too long black folks have been complacent about issues paramount to their "livelihood", social well-being, and economic productiveness.
And tired of "black Judases" corrupting and taking advantage of black communities, which my focus isn''t on rather white folks have social degradation or not, but how can black communities survive and thrive in this competitive arena with whites, Asians, etc.
Hispanics have lower percentages of out-of-wedlock births and divorce rates, in comparison to blacks, which black folks need to hold black men accountable for the high percentage of absentee fathers, which contributes to "black on black crime".

- I think the DA in this case is very upset that the case was overturned. I also think it was unethical for a district attorney to come into a school and tell the students that he can "make their lives disappear with the stroke of a pen." That is intimidation. If CBS is going to give one-sided statements of the district attorney, a la the Duke case, then they should be fair and balanced and give a statement also by the defense attorney.
Fair is fair. Wake up, people!! - Reply to this comment
- kailumego1,
Your assumption that blacks should be unified means that you assume that whites are unified. I am not so certain. I don''t think Withrop in Bel Air has so much affinity for Jethro in West Virginia. Winthrop might make Jethro feel that there is unity because historically rich whites have used poor whites to do their dirty work via the means of color unity. Jethro might numb his own misery by holding onto his whiteness. For Winthrop, however, his whiteness is only secondary to his greenness...a far second. - Reply to this comment
- I am no fan of Sharpton or Jackson but some of the comments made by some people here remind me of the irational comments made about Clinton when the discussion is related to Bush.
For example,
1. School has a tree that is "For Whites Only."
2. White guys beat up black guy. No attempted murder charges.
3. White guy pulls gun on black guy. Black guy wrestles gun away from white guy. Black guy is charged with stealing a gun.
4. Black guys beat up white guy. White guy IS NOT NEAR DEAD and goes to a party on the same night of the incident. Black guys charged with attempted murder.
These are the facts and what do you get from these facts from some people:
1. Sharpton and Jackson are racists.
2. A diatribe about black leaders. - Reply to this comment
- kailumego1,
There were written statements from students who said that the white guy had taunted the black guy about getting beat up by a group of white guys moments before he was beat up. They also stated that he was one of the main instigators leading up to the fight in question.
I am really offended with our media. They present a picture that the black guys just attacked a white guy who did nothing to them and they don''t mention that a black guy was attacked BEFORE by a group of white guys or that a white guy pulled a gun on some of the black guys. Because of this now people are thinking that the black students got off because of their color. When, in fact they have received a much harsher treatment than their white counterparts.
Tell the complete story! - Reply to this comment
- Finally, "There was no credible evidence before or during the trial that the victim had provoked the attack by word or gesture.", if this is what really happened, and the alleged victim didn''t provoke this attack through prior or previous verbal or physical assault, then the "six should be prosecuted", not for attempted murder, but felonious assault..

- Conclusion, a primary example "gangster rap[e] music", which has absolutely no redeeming social qualities, and has perpetuated violence, self-degradation, and misogynistic behavior, of which some blacks/black leaders jump to defend these individuals as "poets" who speak of their embattled environments, however leaving out the fact that these individuals are merely "puppets" of commercialization whose only interest is to better themselves at the expense of others.

- tbweb, I''m in agreement 200%, although I was appalled at the paradoxical treatment of the students based on race, I am puzzled why blacks leaders'' attention hasn''t been directed towards the incident in West Virginia, of which I can only conclude "sexism".
I''m tired of black leaders maximizing racism against "black males", while minimizing racist attacks against "black females", and holding them "emotionally hostage", black females, for what ails the black male, when black women have been the subject of racial brutality just as much as black men.
Moreover, I''m tired of black leaders male and female always jumping on the "black male victimization bandwagon", throwing up slavery, when black women were equally victimized, not only by the white "masters" but black males within their communities. - Reply to this comment
- Because, undeniably, this incident in West Virgina incident has more merit, considering the inhumane and viciously brutal attack that occurred, which I''ve heard absolutely nothing from the black community, i.e. media, radio, etc.
Considering, racial "disharmony" has existed for quite some time, which I''m quite sure this wasn''t the first time, I''m puzzled why the blacks within this community allowed this nonsense to perpetuate, without trying to reach out to the governor, or the Federal prosecutor''s office.
And, as far as the "black on black"crime, which I call the "black Judas syndrome", based on how African Chiefs and leaders have betrayed [selling slaves to Europeans, for it was the selling of "slaves" that "depopulated" African nations, thwarted human potential, and inadvertently made African nations vulnerable, susceptible, defenseless, etc. to European invasion ; the vicious and brutal murders of oppositional leaders, i.e. Patrice Lumumba, who tried to free the Africa, i.e. the Congo from European hegemony; failure of African leaders to forge and encourage technological growth in order to establish a military force which would have provided security and secured its borders; and the persistent violence and brutality against other Africans by rebel factions ] the African people, for their self-aggrandizement. - Reply to this comment
- The "black Judas syndrome" is more of a pestilence to black communities than "white racism", because it''s these individuals that thwart progress and contribute to the continuance of social/economical decay and degradation.
Those black mayors i.e. Kwame Kilpatrick , congressional representatives, school board members, and other elected officials that used their position of power to buttress their own agenda, while leaving communities impoverished and destitute.
Those blacks that use means of "pimp and profit" to further themselves at the expense of those within the communities, along with those that chose illegal profiteering, i.e. drug dealing, stealing, robbing, etc. to buttress themselves economically, while leaving neighbors and communities embattled in violence, fear, and chaos, and last those blacks that use racism as an excuse not to thrive, because they are too "trifling" to apply themselves intellectually, industriously, and laboriously.
I''m sick and tired of blacks/black leaders rationalizing and making excuses, rallying around "unproductive, trifling, self-absorbed, egoistic, etc." black men, when they should be "policing", weeding out, and chastising those who are an indifference to thriving black communities. - Reply to this comment

I, a "Black" American, am no particular fan of Mr. Jackson, or Mr. Sharpton, but the indisputable fact that people who are categorized as "Black", even though living to the benefit of the people and the country, still today need civil rights leaders is proof that xenophobia of "Whites" toward "Blacks" is still very much alive.
As James Baldwin said If you are a citizen, why do you have to fight for your civil rights, if you''re fighting for your civil rights, that means you''re not a citizen.
You say "Although no one was actually harmed from the rope." In fact, an entire community was harmed by the impression that such terroristic intimidation could be attempted with impunity that comes from knowing that far too many "Whites" across America, including many in government see nothing wrong with it. - Reply to this comment

I would add something that many miss, It is not a problem inherent in "race", it has been shown worldwide that any group of people subjected to enforced second class treatment, concentrated into crowded areas with few resources, living at or near poverty levels will suffer a breakdown in civility, and increased lawlessness.
In America it is perceived as a "racial" problem because the descendants of African slaves have been subjected to just such conditions for generations. This is about to change.
When the effects of "globalization" become fully realized, even former middle class whites will be living close to and below poverty levels, we will then see that it is in fact poverty coupled with overcrowding that motivates lawlessness and violence, and not the artificial construct called "race". - Reply to this comment
- In 1992 Rodney King was beaten by a group of white police officers who were trying to make an arrest after several tranquilizers were having no effect on the suspect. The black community was outraged when none of the police officers were convicted. The city of Los Angles broke out into riots. Several innocent people were attacked by blacks based on their race. Now the Black community in Jena, Louisiana want 6 black males to be set free for beating up a white boy who posed no immediate threat to their safety. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton stand up for black people even when they are WRONG!!!! Their objective is not to achieve equality or to end racism but rather make every trial or court case involving a crime committed by a black person to be tossed by claiming racism.
There are many hard working black people in this country who deserve better representation than Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. It%u2019s ashame that the blacks who do good for this country are not represented by better civil rights leaders. The truth of the matter is that both whites and blacks in that community made mistakes from the beginning.
Although no one was actually harmed from the rope. The young man who hung the rope should have been punished. The situation in Louisiana may have been avoided if the superintendent expelled the student, and could have deterred the unnecessary violence which spun out of control. - Reply to this comment
Griezz,
I am faulting the D.A. more for the absurd charges brought against the black students, as well as ridiculing the systematically racist and corrupt "justice" system in Louisiana as a whole, more than I am citing the lack of legal action against the white students, though they should have been expelled, and I would cite this as possible negligence on the part of the school officials.- Reply to this comment
- Earlier stories about this incident indicated that the student was treated at a hospital and released the same day. This does not sound like attempted murder.

While I hardly condone the "noose incident", I have to point out that the D.A. has no say in whether any student should be expelled from their school; his only concern is whether a criminal act took place. If there is a specific law on the books that he missed that should have been applied, please point it out.
As for the students who set up the nooses being expelled, that is only a matter for the principal or the local school board.
And as for the ensuing events, I blame both the whites AND the blacks of the community. Both sides contributed to the eventual attack; both sides are equally responsible for continuing the escalation, to the point where it doesn''t matter who started it. All that matters is that someone should have stopped it before it got to this point. - Reply to this comment
- The Black community across the U.S. rallied around this injustice and focused its attention on it like a laser beam, even the rape and torture of the Black female in W. Va. by 6 Whites didn''t distract its attention away from this outrageous conviction. The Black community now needs to aim this powerful runaway train of support at the high murder rate in U.S. inner cities, in particular Philadelphia, averaging 1.8 murders a day since the new year in Black on Black crime. The net effect of Black on Black crime across the U.S. is that the Black population is not growing in the U.S., its standing still, since with almost every birth there is a Black murder. It''s time for the Black community to regroup, get back in the game and rediscover its greatness!

- Racism does have its particular strangeness. I remember a few years ago, a Native American boy on his reservation land, at his own home, got beaten and killed by two white guys trolling the area and looking for some Indian to beat up. When they got charged, they made some excuse that they were provoked by this fellow they did not know and said they did not mean to kill him. Six months in jail is all they got, and they were adults. That is racism for you.
