The idea behind a hate crime is that due to someone''s color, religion, ***, etc. an individual was picked for a crime based on discrimination, thus adding to the crime of rape, assault, kidnapping (which at this point are state crimes) a federal charge. Hate crimes deny someone of their basic civil rights. A person does not pick the color he is born with, but the ignoramuses that carry out these types of crimes choose their victims based on these characteristics.

I can not believe that someone would comment on how blacks are not "innocent little lambs" as if that mattered to this situation at all. And statistics show that the preponderance of crime committed by blacks are ''black on black'' crime, not the 90% quoted ''black on white'' crime. It may be true that blacks make up a smaller percentage of the population but a higher percentage of the prison population, but there could be reasons why these numbers are skewed -- such as, blacks historically have not been well off and able to afford pricey attorneys that would get them off.

The truth is, I''m going to despise anyone who commits such attrocities, no matter what their race is. And if a black commits a crime against me, a white, with a racial component attached then I hope the feds would use the hate crime clasue as well.

People who are prepared and capable of protecting themselves do not get kidnapped and raped.

This story isn''t even worth commenting on! After reading the article I honestly felt like I just read a section in a book of fiction....I just can''t imagine that there are people with this type of mentality and just can''t believe this story. I hate to say this but the only thing that makes me feel better is the thought that every single one of these defendants will get probably worse, once they enter the prison system, than what they put the poor victim thru. I am sure that every black convict (men and women) in the state of West Virginia are lining up for their day to seek retribution. The only thing that will save each and everyone of the defendants (and taxpayers the cost of a trial) is to go ahead and commit suicide!

RajPatel3, i hate to burst your bubble, but they may be close to 70% but that is because they are prosecuted at a higher rate under more serious charges than whites. A white can commit the same crime but will usually be charged with a lower offense which will skew the numbers. I am retired from law enforcement and use to see this every day. Your numbers don''t tell the whole story.
