Comments on: Ravens Lead Rescuers To Missing Woman
In Critical Condition After Being Lost For Nearly Two Weeks In Oregon Mountains
- All wild animals have evolved means of limiting their population in proportion to the food available to them. Otherwise the earth would have been overrun eons ago.
When a certain number of a species has been removed by predation, the remaining animals will replace them next time around. When predation is particularly heavy, as in deer hunting, they will even overadapt and produce surplus offspring as insurance. - Reply to this comment
- Hey, for a change the police can have some positive press let''s give these guys a BIG THANK YOU. Most others would not have been out there on their day off.

I wonder if anyone asked her if she saw Steve Fosset? LOL - Reply to this comment
- Ironic that ravens, black birds known for being omens of death, led people to find this woman alive. Glad she survived.

Actually, that''s more a European idea. Here in North America, the raven has some positive aspects in the Native American mythologies. So it''s entirely appropriate here! - Reply to this comment

You are one mixed up sicko?
You don''t get upset over killing the animals; but you do when they are injured?
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THAT KILLING IS SENTIENT CREATURES, A GIFT OF PAINLESS JOY? LOL
You are no better human for killing the animals; so stop deluding yourself that you are in a position to judge the virtues or lack thereof for others who wound animals! - Reply to this comment
- It is as likely that the ravens were trying to guide predators to the site so they could have the leftovers.

- Neat story! Amazing they found her still alive. God was looking out for her.

- Lets not forget that many deer starve in winter or are hit by vehicles every year. That is why hunting is allowed. But, as a hunter, I would be real upset to see a wounded deer that some amateur hunter wounded, but did not track down after the shot. Hunters have a responsibility to avoid causing animals from suffering needlessly!

- ua8th, I think the true heroes of this story are the ravens for guiding the search team.

- Sorry folks...if you think bow hunting is more "humane" than hunting with a gun...you are wrong. Most deer (or elk) that are shot at with a bow''s arrow, are wounded and don''t die immediately.
Then they run off and the hunter usually cannot keep up with the wounded creature...so it is then left to bleed and suffer an often slow, miserable death after it runs for its life far, far from the bow hunter... - Reply to this comment

- Newster1, I have to admit, I feel just like you do...and I was born and raised in NE Oregon. The fact is, a zillion city folk from the Portland Metro area descend on NE Oregon and the Wallowas for bow hunting season. And, it is very sad to see the deer that are wounded because of some stupid, hobby-hunter''s poor-a** shot...still, the ole gal survived. They say it was her first trip up there, that she went so the old man wouldn''t be out there alone...maybe, they won''t go back for bow hunting...

- ozilot, I agree that she must have some sense of survival and a very strong will to live. What I am saying is this situation should not have happened in the first place if preplanning and proper wilderness techniques were followed. Especially at their age. She must be living well with an angel on her shoulder.

- Toldyouso, This couple displayed so many wrongs for being in such a remote area such as not bringing water if thats the case, splitting up, not knowing the territory before going on the actual hunt, leaving their only form of shelter, and on and on.....

- Folks, don''t get mad at fools like newster, feel sorry for them. They are ignorant, but they feel it necessary to run their mouths without engaging their brains. I think they are trying to compensate for their feelings of inadequacy. They are just one of the unpleasant things in life that we as a society are forced to live with, like dog droppings all over the park and trash strewn along the highways (don''t get me started on grafitti).
