Comments on: Ravens Lead Rescuers To Missing Woman
In Critical Condition After Being Lost For Nearly Two Weeks In Oregon Mountains
- it hasn''t been but a couple of generations past that your ancestors were required to kill animals in order to survive. hunters generally have a higher reverence for life in than people who get their food only from a grocery store. murderers, robbers and other criminals don''t use bows and rifles to commit crimes. i am not a hunter but have seen animals starving due to over population. IMO that is much worse than a quick shot to a vital organ.

- I do care about the earth, much more than those who don''t put their money where their mouth is.
In Oregon, the money collected from hunting and fishing fees goes into not only those who work for the state, but also into habitat and ensuring monitoring the populations to ensure health of the ecosystem. As far as being dropped off with just a knife, I would make it far longer than you in that environment. If you are a meat eater and you do not hunt, who is killing for you? Someone has to do it. I would much rather hunt the game and process it myself than to wonder if the hamburger I am eating came from the slaughterhouse floor....(literally from the floor with scoop shovels)
I do enjoy the scenery, every time I get out to the forest. This is throughout the year. Yes they do have rivers there, many with class 4 and 5 rapids. Water so clear you can see 50 to 60 feet down to the bottom. Not too many states you can say that about.
In my hikes and river trips, I have seen bear, deer, weasels, otters, and a plethora of wildlife that puts me in awe and wonder of this planet that sustains us.
Unfortunately, we have to kill some things to sustain ourselves. If you buy you meat at the supermarket, then someone else is doing the killing for you. The first deer I killed was a deep experience and it gave me reverence for all life and an understanding that all are important to how nature works. The very laws of nature demand that we all die. Just as we have taken from it, we shall return to it. - Reply to this comment
- Excuse me. Let me pray to the Supreme Being that we have noble, selfless hunters who care so deeply about the earth. Without them, where would we be? "My father taught me how to hunt & now I''m teaching my son how to hunt."
Bunch of fat dudes running around with rifles.
Why don''t we drop your butt out there with nothing but a knife & see how tough you are then.
We need more people pushing 80 running around with bows. Be fun to put a bullet between her eyes & then say, "Oops. Sorry Granny. I thought you were a deer/elk."
Enjoy the scenery. Hike. Take a canoe down the river. Do they have rivers in Oregon? Just checking. Why do you have to kill? What do you get out of that? Where is the fun? - Reply to this comment
- Why has this turned into a degenerate hunting debate. The woman at 76 was enjoying outdoor activity with her husband I can only hope I''ll be able to at 76 she is an example to the rest of us.

Wrong part of the country there city boy. Looks like you failed your geography classes. You should have been paying attention in class instead of being stoned.... - Reply to this comment
- I know if you live in some sh-i-tty place like Oregon there''''s probably not much else to do, but couldn''''t they just stay at home and get drunk watching tv, as they probably do most nights?

You can have your city life. Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in the union. Enjoy your smog laden, pollution burdened New York, Jersey, LA or wherever you are. There is a lot to do there, if you have an imagination...Sounds as if you don''t! - Reply to this comment
- From your post I estimate that you are for keeping man out of wildlife areas completely?
That would mean no more controlled burns, clearing dead fall and monitoring the forest. The million acre burn (caused by lightning) in Southern Oregon was a result of bowing to the enviro-whackos. The native Americans did controlled burns every year and it is documented by the early settlers in the west. Of course too, the wildlife suffers.
The native Americans had it right... The Euros have screwed this country up. - Reply to this comment
Yes healthier is right, you stand every chance of getting a brain wasting disease as any hunter. Mad cow is a possibility in our society. Where I hunted I knew for a fact there were no pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals being used in the area.
Yeah, go to the grocery store, get your hormone, antibiotic laden meat. You''re only weakening yourself due to man''s intervention into the natural world for profit. I do agree, the populations are controlled in some states but in others they are not and I am not for canned hunts. The state this lady was lost in. They monitor the populations and issue tags based on that population. They DO NOT meddle as you say.
But then again you left out the part about overpopulations dying of starvation, injury, and disease...
That was then this is now, I''ll bet you''ll be first in line when a major catastrophe occurs (you know, volcanic activity, earthquakes, storms and the supply line shuts down) and the only source of meat is in the forest.
I would much rather have the knowledge base that our forefathers had than to depend on a capitalistic greedy society.
I bet you advocate using synthetic clothing? Gee and who are the oil cartels catering to? Those synthetics are petroleum based... Ever think of how they manufacture those? It comes from oil...
I''m glad you trust our health care here. We have more illness now than we did before man started tampering with genetics, hormones and antibiotics to keep there stock up for profit.

SORRY, but I''m no ''environmentalist'' I could care less about it, conserving, or recycling, and I HATE peta and their hypocritical extinct pets agenda- ilk, but I draw the line at wanton destruction of animals for profit or ''sport,'' you pro hunting morons lack a couple of round things in your pants is why you need to go out and feel BIG like a MAN by killing animals.
I also draw the line at meddling with deer populations to build them up, rescue starving ones and killing preditors to increase numbers for the sole reason of KILLING them later!
Deer and wild life have become "INVENTORY" for a sick segment of society, especially those who engage in CANNED HUNTS! - Reply to this comment
- "The hides get donated to charity and any surplus goes to food pantries.
but I prefer the taste of venison to beef and it has a lot less fat, making it healthier for me."
Oh wow, the dead skin and scraps get donated to charity, THAT really makes it ALL so much better eh!
Yeah Kaviz, ''healthier'' till you get that brain wasting disease now making it''s way thru those wild animals TOO- nature''s revenge maybe and once you get infected there''s no cure either.
Mad cow, possible exposure to rabies, parasites, yep, SO much healthier!
""All you anti-hunting advocates need to be reminded that this land was managed for thousands of years before the Europeans arrived."
As Agnim said- that was THEN, this is NOW, THEN slavery, rape and murder were acceptable, antibiotics didn''t exist, medications, x-rays, surgery etc didn''t exist- it was a TOTALLY different life in every way, there''s no comparison! - Reply to this comment
- Dumb rednecks out hunting elks. And with bows and arrows -- just to make the killing as painful and long-lasting as possible. What a bunch of sorry losers. And I suppose taxpayers get to pay for her helicopter ride to the hospital and her hospital stay? I know if you live in some sh-i-tty place like Oregon there''s probably not much else to do, but couldn''t they just stay at home and get drunk watching tv, as they probably do most nights?

- Crazy old f-a-r-t-s out there bow hunting.
What the heck are they hunting? We have supermarkets, folks. More than enough food
for you. Everything you could ask for.
Too bad a grizzly didn''t rip her face off.
"Prayer" had nothing to do with it. Thank the 70 volunteers. She lucked out big time. She''s lucky it wasn''t the middle of February. She would have been frozen solid.

What''s the matter Agnim? Cat get your tongue? I would much rather nourish myself with those things that are natural than use chemicals that do not wholly sustain the body. What are you eating, seaweed? I do when I eat sushi...
I would much rather clothe myself with clothing that comes from nature too, than to clothe myself with petrochemicals in the synthetic clothing. That way I further lessen the demand (in my own way) for oil use in this country...
So what about it Agnim, are you a vegan? Are you only eating plant life? Are you getting the essential proteins and fats from what you are eating? I have explored that diet and it is difficult to achieve that dietary requirement. It is possible though... - Reply to this comment

I''ve been waiting for your irrational rants...
You never did answer my question the other day...
Are you vegan and/or a member of PETA?
And for your information, I neither would kill nor scavenge the carcass of dead animals. I leave such acts for the more beastly.

So I am a beast... I am not residing in the ethereal, but here in a very material world. Else I would not need the sustenance that is provided by the earth.
I am not a ruminant either. I have incisors, canines, and molars to eat with. By that very fact makes me at the least an omnivore.
Were I only visiting here in an ethereal body, I would not have to sustain myself with "fleshly" foods.
My body is only a temporary visage while here and it needs to be sustained. By the very things on this earth.
So please look outside yourself and truly see what there is to see. You might be surprised... - Reply to this comment
- kaiyo, I too am a gun hunter with the same hunting etiquete. I also am a bow hunter that practiced for a year before my first hunt to make sure of my abilities and limitations for distance. I process my own kill to suppliment my families meat intake. The hides get donated to charity and any surplus goes to food pantries. I know the PETA people will trash my post, but I prefer the taste of venison to beef and it has a lot less fat, making it healthier for me. I will continue to hunt and harvest what god put on this earth as long as I am able.
Although I hope I never get as stubborn as the elderly man in this story, to go out at his age alone forcing his inexperienced to go with him to make sure someone is there for him. I hope he gets the bill for all the search and rescue costs. It''s amazing she survived. She must be one heck of a tough bird. - Reply to this comment
- kaiyo4u - kudos to you - you so speak the truth
I love archery - but only as a hobby not for hunting. I hunted - but never got a high off of it. We (family) did it for food - living in the upper north of the United States, the winters used to be very harsh and family members were laid off from work (open pit mines) for several months - in order to feed the family we had to hunt. It was meat on the table - we never trophy hunted - - Reply to this comment

That was THEN when we did not have a say or input in the slaughter of the creatures.
This is now!
