Funny, I was thinking of posting along the same humor line, Dr. Strangelove was one very funny movie about a very serious subject at the time.

USAF was correct to fire the weapons squadron leader. There are a lot of safeguards to preclude this and they were ineffective.

Nuclear (or nucleeeeer) weapons are not easily issued or loaded.

I fail to get this one? Like this is the first time the airforce flew nukes over head? What about the broken arrows and thousands of tests right on the continent? I know all militaries are angry delutional nut cases run by self serving oligachies and tyrants.

Not to worry. A direct hit will be painless. Only if you''re some distance away that the radiation sickness will kill you in a very slow and excruciating way.

I swear, you ultra right wingers always have to break everything down to being the fault of "liberals," don''tcha? It gets really old and it it is VERY tired. The fact is, the "liberal" press had nothing to do with breaking this story. It was first released by the MILITARY itself in The Military Times. Secondly, the fact that a plane was carrying UNARMED bombs is not the point, cowboys. The point is CONTROL! If the US military doesn''t know where every nut and bolt is ALL THE TIME then we are all in danger. If the CONTROL over the nuclear (note: NU-CLEE-ER) devices is compromised, the danger increases expoentially (rapidly becoming greater in size).
Duh!

So true, GeneRey. I think the headline borders on irresponsible. This happens day in and day out. The below is from an earlier post I made today. I encourage all others to be critical of our news media. It is the ONLY way we can force them to be responsible. They have the 1st Amendment, but they are STILL responsible to us.

Even if SeeBS did their very best to distort the truth - "Nuke-Armed B-52 Mistakenly Flown Over U.S.
Commander Fired After Bomber Armed With Six Nuclear Warheads Flew Over Several States"

Most people never get past the headlines, and make several assumptions based upon them. Which is precisely why many liberals are running around at this very moment like chicken little.

True enough, it should never have happened, but that they weren''t armed proves that the failsafe works.

The headline is misleading people. Just because the warhead is attached does NOT mean that the thing is "armed". That takes arming codes and a very serious process to make them boomable, and that is not done until there is a real target within range. UNTIL that process takes place, they are nothing but big ''ole chunks of steel. You could use ''em for a BIG baseball bat & nothing would happen. Even conventional warheads are not armed until it''s time to launch. Calm down.

The USAF can fly B 52''s WITH NUKS over my house any time they want to day or night. The morons that relieved the munitions squadron commander of his duties should be sent to Iraq for for duty in a Hum V rooting out IED''s.

Remember that during the cold war, the Air Force flew nukes all over the states, Europe and places in between. This is so much un-news.

The DOE ships by rail and truck more weapons grade materials than this and this fact never makes the news. In fact DOE uses the largest mercenary army in the US to guard its radioactive material. This army reports to DOE; not anyone else, including the President. Now that''s something to fret over.

the real threat is not from our military..all this cr*ap is nothing more than just conspiracy due to mistrust.
the real threat resides next to you..cells that are formenting and waiting for a perfect moment to attack (germany and denmark). A BIGGER THREAT are morons who think that these cells should have the same, IF NOT MORE, rights than the citizens of this country. The same morons who thinks that these cells has every right to do what they want because the catholic church had this share 4 centuries ago.
An attack is imminent..more imminent come 2008. The whine about how ''this country IS BEING TO HARSH on suspected criminal terrorists'' will be the new whine "this country HAS NOT DONE ENOUGH"
If we want to take our troops out of middle east..FINE! but do not think we, at the same time, lax our security here stateside. We take our troops out..we pretty much need to lock down our borders..BECAUSE THEY WILL COME
