"So I guess they can''''t teach the civil war, the revolutionary war, WWI, WWII, Viet Nam, in school."

I bet they can talk about the Iraq war. Just no pictures of American heros, like a kids father from there.

OK, is there a joke somewhere here? I am sorry, but I don''t see any gun. The drawing looks like a building to me. Where exactly is the gun? So I guess they can''t teach the civil war, the revolutionary war, WWI, WWII, Viet Nam, in school. Can you mention a gun, can you say the word gun? As usual, Americans take goofiness to a whole new level. And I still don''t see any gun in that drawing.

I do not see this drawing as a threat of any kind. First of all the kid put smiley faces on it. Second there was not a hit list of names written next to the drawing. There is nothing violent about the picture. I doubt if I would have even known it was a gun if I wasn''t told because this kid is a bad artist for his age. Erasmus6 where did you get information about a knife in this picture? Geez I wonder if they are still allowed to play hangman (the word game) at school.

I cannot believe that these people running our schools graduated college. A picture of a gun is a threat? Stupidity. Almost as bad as pointing a finger, or a chicken finger, or cutting off little guns from plastic army men in a display, all true. Has common sense left our schools, along with actually teaching kids?

I still can''t help but wonder how far their "zero tolerance policy" goes. Are there pictures of guns, bows, swords, knives, clubs, spears or any other weapons in their books? If there are pictures of ANY weapons in ANY book in the school it would seem to be a double standard. "Do as I say- not as I do" so to speak. If I had a child in that school I would be DEMANDING the OFFENSIVE BOOKS be removed. If they have a true "Zero Tolerance" policy the rules would apply to them as well as the students. Let them TRY to TEACH history, science or anything else without the mention of GUNpowder, guns or any other weapons. How can they teach history without mentioning firearms at least one time? Or bombs? Or bows? Even atlatls played a very large part in the history of humans. I am so glad I don''t live there. If I did I would be home schooling my children just to keep them away from SO MUCH STUPID!!!

Knives, in my background, are tools. Knives can be weapons but in almost 50 years of carrying a one, I''ve never used one as such. I''ve been shooting and owning guns most of my life and, again, I''ve never used one as a weapon. They are simply a hobby. If I needed to protect myself or my family I would use a knife, or gun, or baseball bat, or a sharp stick or something. By the same token, the best weapon in the world will not protect a person who is unprepared to use it. What is for sure is that we live in a violent world and that is not going to change in our or our children''s lifetimes. Police can only do so much and can only be a finite number of places. It is every citizen''s responsibility to protect themselves and their families. I do not believe everyone should own a gun or a knife but the idea that anyone who does is a bad person is silly. It merely means they choose to lower the odds of being victims. Therefore, I find most of these discussions ridiculous. As for the case in point, drawing a gun, knife, or sharp stick in a non-threatening way means the kid is interested in the same thing most 12 or 13 year-old boys are interested in. That, in itself, in no way suggests a plan of violence but does suggest the awareness of it through the media, the home environment, or the content of classroom teaching. Why didn''t they use a little intelligence and ask the boy what he meant then (a)ask him not to draw guns again or (b) get him some counseling?

I was a child and thank goodness the guns were banned in the foster homes I was raised in. erasmus6 is trying her best educate on this issue. The lady is right. Boys can draw other things. Girls don''t draw ponies. I am 52. There is all kinds of things boys can draw that are gun free . The problem with Amreica is this gun craziless. It is on TV,movies,in the home. You might as well call the gun your god as you worship it. I am a legally blind person and still hate guns.

I don''t want to see guns around campuses anymore because kids aren''t taught to value human life anymore. However, I have to chuckle at the utter stupidity of some education administrators. 35-40 years ago nobody in my part of the country (except me) shot black powder guns very much. So, after checking with my teacher, I took my Kentucky Rifle replica to speech class for a demonstration. No problem for anybody and the class learned something. Times have changed!

It is actually quite amazing how many people there are that are willing to put their obsession with owning guns over the safety of their children.

The fact that you are even willing to over look the POSSIBILITY that this could be a warning sign is very sad. It shows that you have learned absolutely nothing from the past tragedies. The guy that did the Virginia Tech shootings had a record of mental problems and was still issued a gun. People remember him as being weird but nobody took any notice of him. Maybe if someone did the kids would still be alive. And of course there are a million others whack jobs out there that there is no record of at all.

Now this kid may not have a problem and I am not saying that he should be suspended but people need to start paying attention to these kinds of things. He didn''t just draw some stick fugures playing with some laser guns, he drew A GUN and A KNIFE.

I think that living with your obsessions over the guns all your lives has made you incapable of seeing the truth. How long have you been living with guns and has the crime gotten better or worse? Well, we know it hasn''t gotten better and it ain''t going to get better as long as you have them.

The teachers are just trying to do what you parents should be doing, teaching your kids that there is more to life than GUNS! That is if you want your kids to have a future with out violence.

"Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of American, cannot succeed with any lesser effort."

Oh my goodness a 13 year old drew a gun ( on paper) thank goodness he isn''t drawing guns on people! Give me a break! We have 6 boys age 13 - 1 and they all at one time or another drew pics of guns, built them out of legos or other toys. This is normal for boys. I would be more worried if the kid knitting.

I have been a hand-loader since I was 10 years old. I have owned, and do own, many guns. I have never in my life thought of one of my rifles as something I would use on another person.
You gun haters really ought to learn a little about why everyone who ownes a gun is not a loony. Conversly--many who do not own guns ARE loonies. It is not the gun it is the nut behind the gun.

The kid''s drawing is very telling.
His drawing speaks volumes.
It is saying:
"Mommy, Daddy, pleeze send me to a better school where I can learn to draw like a normal 13 year old ''cause the art teachers at this school suk.

*****the topic at hand is a direct result of what happens when bleeding heart liberals take control or ''power''. I am not sure if you ever heard of california liberals trying to outlaw dodgeball on schoolplaygrounds? because it hurts and it alieniates the less athletic kids.

Liberals or conservatives, who cares? This is all about ignorant people with power and ideas like "zero tolerance". Give a liberal fascist or a conservative fascist a new law with power over the people and watch what happens. All the same.

Perhaps, but I can promise you that because I own a shotgun that the chances of a burgler (or right wing loony) dying of a gunshot goes up a LOT more!

Great comeback Sarge! Any burglar or Liberal Looney who enters my home definetely faces the same chances although I''d probably use a sword, spear, knife or axe, which I also own -and in great quantities- So goa ahead, make my day, punk!

That is a sick drawing and that kid is yelling a message. Get over the gun worship. He sent the message of gun love. We pay taxes to educate the brat. They should look in the kid''''s home for answers. I hate guns...

the only message I get here is that you are a bleeding heart .....whatever but at any rate, boys will boys..what if he drew a heart?? does that mean he wants to rip a heart out?? stick with your own assessment of things. Boys will draw guns and girls will draw ponies. The next time you feel benevolent and want to save somebody or something..go to the ghetto and give someone a hug..seeeeshhhhh!!
