Pit Bulls Used Pet Door, Killed Neighbor's Jack Russell Terrier; She's In Serious Condition

Not true!! I had a wolf mix (63% wolf) that I had to chain as she loved to visit a neighbor who had chickens.... more before she visited than after...
She never changed her personality one bit. She was just as sweet at two and a half years old when I finally couldn''t stand seeing her chained anymore and gave her to someone with more land than me as she was the day I got her when she was three months old. - Reply to this comment
- It is too bad that somebody didn''''t shoot the person that thought of allowing everyone to have one in the first place.:)

RIGHT!!!! If this woman had no gun the dogs would have killed her. I had a 98 lb Siberian Husky That was kept on a 60 foot chain for 8 years. He was loved and played with and walked often. (excuse me, you dont ''walk a Siberian Husky, they ''run'' you,) but it was great exercise for me and Stormy. There was not a mean bone in ''that'' dogs body. Its obvious that you do not know what you are talking about. Grow up child. - Reply to this comment
- My Neighbor had a wonderful German Shepherd that every single day at 5pm would play with him in the yard throwing a ball or frisbee. My neighbor never failed doing this. One evening we heard her screaming and the dog attached and took part of her thigh off. This was the family pet, neighborhood pet and a wonderful dog we thought. Something snapped... so you just never know no matter how trained, how loved, neutered or not.

- I am against gun ownership and as a disbled person who is legally blind would not have one. I am aware of the right to bear arms as granted by the constution but there are people who should not have access to them. Cops have lost their right to bear arms.
Dogs need to be fixed. If it means castrates fine.Fix yer pets.
Years ago I got bit by a dog in a foster home and I was pissed. I did nothing wrong just looking for another child in the home. The dog''s mistress also my foster mother just sat there while her pet bit my arse. I was pissed at her.
Dog and gun owners need to step upto the plate and do the right thing. In American the dogs are licensed ,yet it is their owners that must license them. Cats too. - Reply to this comment

"When you come up with an answer on how to get them out of their hands let me know..."
Okay, well let me see....first you could take what''s left of your military and do a house to house search. And whenever you come across a criminal you could shoot them on site and take their guns away. Pretty soon you will have less criminals and less guns!
Seriously though, I realize that it is difficult to take away guns once everybody has one. It is too bad that somebody didn''t shoot the person that thought of allowing everyone to have one in the first place.:) - Reply to this comment
- pam1sadge- if all dog owners were like you, we''d definitly have a lot less problems. As a dog owner who agrees that it is fully the owners responsibility, not the breed, would you also agree that tough penalties for the owners of dogs who maul are in order? That may cause people to think twice before getting ANY large, strong dog- they will really have to know they can handle it first, or they will face the consequences. While I don''t feel that banning the breed is fair, I can see why people are calling for it. Irresponsible people are ruining it for everybody, so to speak.

- It is not the fault of the dog - it''s the owner''s responsibility. The article stated that animal control had already been involved with this dog/family. The warning signs were already there, but instead, this owner puts a strong breed dog on a chain (probably inadequate in size, etc.) in a yard that obviously was not secure. Animal control should have stepped in during warning No. 1 and checked out the situation before allowing the owner to resume ownership of the dog(s). And to the poster that said pitbulls are not cute, sorry, but in my opinion they are not only cute but very sweet. I am a responsible pitbull owner, licensed to own the dog, and have gone through two obedience classes. My dogs don''t run wild EVER and they NEVER will. Dogs are dogs and who knows what they can do if their pack leader is not supervising. It''s all about rules, boundaries and limitations. If you own a dog be responsible for it. PERIOD! It''s not the breed of dog!

- You do realize that the point is not only to stop the dog from procreating, but also cut down on the testosterone in the dog? A vasectomy won''''t stop the little bugger from humping your leg.

Oh I know that (though he never does that anyway because he''s been properly trained), but it still amounts to mutilation. - Reply to this comment

- "...I know such a tiny dog like the Chihuahua couldn''t kill a person by itself, but the point here is there are more dogs biting and mauling people everyday than the pit bull does..."
No, I''d say the point is EXACTLY the mauling and the killing. That''s like saying the rules for airplanes should be the same as for cars. It''s nonsense because a fender bender is a bit more serious at 29,000 feet. An attack from a 6 pound Chihuahua probably won''t end my life. An attack from a 45 pound pit bull certainly can. - Reply to this comment
- Also unless the dogs of any breed are bred for show dogs then we need to make it mandatory that any and all dogs be spayed and neutered and you have to have a licence to breed dogs.

I have Shih-Tzu''s, which of course only present the danger of sleeping in your lap, but I disagree with mandatory fixing of male dogs because as it''s done today it involves removing the testicles completely and as far as I''m concerned that''s mutilation of the animal as much as docking the tail or ears (which I also oppose). I''ll get my male dog neutered when they come up with a safe procedure similar to a vasectomy. - Reply to this comment
- You don''t need to ban the breed... we just need a law that says if you want to own a pit bull, or any other large, agressive breed, you will be held liable for second degree murder/attempted murder if your dog kills/mauls someone. Period. I''m curious- pit bull owners, if that was truly the case, and you knew you would be held accountable to that degree (as you should be now), would you still own those dogs?

- So if we are going to pick on them lets do something like making the owners of the dog get a licence and then both go through a training period on how to handle this animal and obidence training. Make it a law for anyone owning any size of dog that they have to get a licence to own that dog and go through the training.
Also unless the dogs of any breed are bred for show dogs then we need to make it mandatory that any and all dogs be spayed and neutered and you have to have a licence to breed dogs.
Singeling out just one breed is not fair, this needs to be applied to all breed small and large.
To stop the fighting and maulings we need keep our eyes open for people owning a breed that has a reputation for this kind of activity and report them to the authorities so they can come and check if these owners have the proper licence and training,if they don''t then give them a time limit to comply with the law.
Unfortunately it will come to this some day and it may be our only choice to stop the maulings and biting. Many of you I know will disagree with me on this, but I''d like to hear your solutions. - Reply to this comment
- I am so fed up with hearing about the pit bull terrior in the news all the time for biting or mauling someone. For one thing dogs are pack animals. The breed is not born mean. But what makes a dog attack someone for no apparent reason? We really don''t know.
If it has been trained to fight, yes it can be mean and very dangerous, after all this is a dog that use to be used in the bull rings many years ago,so that in itself would tell you that this breed is very strong.
What about all the other dogs out there say your ever day cocker spaniel down to your tiny chihuahua who bite people all the time and we don''t yell about them to be put to sleep. I know such a tiny dog like the Chihuahua couldn''t kill a person by itself, but the point here is there are more dogs biting and mauling people everyday than the pit bull does. - Reply to this comment
- First off, no one should own a gun.
Secondly, if you are going to own a gun KNOW HOW TO USE IT, otherwise don''''t get one!

I am retired from law enforcement and a Nam vet so I feel I am more than capable of using a weapon, but if I had TWO pit bulls ripping me apart I''m not sure even I could aim straight. I am left leaning on most things, but owning a weapon is something I will always defend. I fully agree that if you take away weapons from law abiding people, the only ones who will have guns will be the criminals. When you come up with an answer on how to get them out of their hands let me know and I''ll pass it along to my fellow officers because that would make them haapy as heck. - Reply to this comment

"People who hate guns haven''t met enough people who deserve to be shot."
That is because I live in a country that has very strict gun laws. We don''t have lunatics running around with guns and therefore have less crime. We don''t have to worry about getting shot by some ******* neighbor who not only has a gun but doesn''t know how to use it as well.
U.S. children are 12 times more likely to die by gunfire than children in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (source John Hopkins center for gun policies and Research)(just thought that I would throw that in):)
Now I am not saying that this woman should not have used the gun. She had it, she may have well used it. BUT she should have been trained in using it BEFORE she got it. - Reply to this comment
- These dogs are known for turning suddenly no matter how they are raised. People who own them should be sentenced to prison when something like this happens.
And gun nuts are just nuts. - Reply to this comment
