Comments on: Census Wants Immigration Raids Suspended
Census Bureau To Ask Immigration Officials To Halt Raids During 2010 Count
- people love to complicate matters with arguments citing situations or statistics.
Simply put, ''illegal'' means just that...not lawful or against the law. Illegal aliens are criminals in the eyes of the law...the word itself defines that, not my personal opinion. So just substitute the word "illegal" with the word ''criminal'' and people''s true respect for the laws we have to maintain our society become clear. - Reply to this comment
- kaiyo4u,
I would agree that everyone should just put their name on a list and wait until their turn. It is, however, not that simple. There is no standard list to sign up to be an American citizen. For example, anyone coming from England would never be an illegal alien because there is OPEN access to immigration for people coming from England. There is no standard list that everyone could sign-up for. It would be nice if there was. - Reply to this comment

- For those of you who want to grant amnesty, why is it that those who did enter into the US legally and went through the proper channels, earned their citizenship, do not want the illegals to have amnesty? I do have friends who are awaiting citizenship and they speak poorly of those who cross borders illegally. I also have friends who are legal citizens who gained there status through the proper channels and they are even more adamant about the illegals being deported. Could it be that granting amnesty to those who chose to come here illegally is spitting in the face of those who entered via legal means? Hmmm, I have to side with my friends who entered via the legal means.

- Lets Send some of these Census Bureau Employees down to the border to patrol that area, and maybe that''ll wake the idiots up ! Let the Raids Continue, and continue to go on !

- There is some out right liars and very mis-informed idiots who choose to turn a blind eye on the truth to the illegal situtation isn''t there ! Fact-Many of the illegals use Fraudulent Social Security numbers from Deceased people ! Fact-hard to collect that Social Security years later using that Fake SS number ! FACT- many come across the Border pregnet, and have their illegal babies here, and who picks up the tab for that, YOU DO the Tax Payer, and also thru higher Health Insurance Premiums ! FACT- Many have come across the Border to help set up a Drug Distribution Network to accept shipments arriving and become Distribution check points, and sellers, then ship that illegal money back to the Drug Cartels, in Mexico and Columbia ! FACT-Many do not pay Income Taxes, their employer does not with hold Income taxes, that would lead to a definate paper trail that they hired them illegally, which they''d be held accountable during a spot check ! Fact-many are paid Cash, so as not to be detected, and so the Employer will not have to carry the required Workers Compensation insurance on the illegal workers, required by state law in many states Some of you, need to quit denying the Truth, and face reality and do your research before you try to lie about the Facts Also, if NAFTA was so *** good, why are they leaving Mexico and ElSalvador, by the millions to come here.

LA is a dive now compared to OC sure LA has a larger population but the infrastructure cannot compare and although both counties have their share of illegal aliens, OC is much nicer overall. Many parts of LA have become unrecognizable over the last ten years. It''s really a shame what has happened and illegal immigration has contributed greatly to its decline only the uniformed and fools would deny that fact. - Reply to this comment

- Yes they worked hard and long, as some of you say, but they were not paying taxes or very little. Asked the book keeper and I was informed the majority was filing exempt or the max exemptions. They were also entering into construction there, driving the wages down for sheetrockers, carpenters, and laborers...

Actually, the majority are paying their taxes, and just because they are claiming exemptions doesn''t mean they don''t have true exemptions. That is a false concept you have. Many pay their taxes in hope that if they are ever granted residency, they can show that they have indeed been good citizens. Furthermore, they all pay in social security taxes and unemployment taxes, and that money they will never see again. On the other hand, some welfare recipient can work a couple of days out of the year and get the so-called tax credit of 1,500 or more for each and every child.
Also, I don''t know what you''re talking about in construction, because out where I live, those jobs pay better than many teachers'' jobs. As far as farm labor is concerned, I did that for many years, and I can assure you that it was really hard to find citizens who would do the work, which is considered low-skilled work, and therefore rarely gets more than minimum wage. You certainly won''t get many welfare recipients to do the work. - Reply to this comment
- Wages are depressed due to outsourcing and to illegals... When I lived in the NW, they were there. I did contract work where they worked (agriculture). Yes they worked hard and long, as some of you say, but they were not paying taxes or very little. Asked the book keeper and I was informed the majority was filing exempt or the max exemptions.

- To expand, rudy654, on the various facets of corporate welfare, you have to include the government paying corporations to hire and create jobs for welfare recipients and provide them with training. In NYS it was easier to simply give welfare recipients jobs in civil service, which at this point is a nothing more than a form of welfare itself, since civil service employees get the most benefits and the least hours for a higher rate of pay than most corporations can or will offer. As long as you are legal and eligible for welfare, you can dictate to the government just what kind of job they can give you and just what you will do or not do. People legitimately collecting unemployment are treated as criminals, while welfare recipients are handled with kid gloves. That abuse has to stop long before anyone worries about an illegal immigrant cleaning out toilet bowls, emptying wastebaskets and dusting off corporate desks after 5 PM while the employees go off to the bar to drink and curse about those dammed illegals ruining the economy. If anything, they are increasing our social security and income tax revenue, since they can never apply for a tax return refund or collect social security. Apply that to the welfare recipient who is quite able to hold down two or three jobs as long as they are paid off the books so it won''t interfere with their government check, and it''s a great life, ain''t it.

Well said. I have worked in social services and my job was to get people back to work after the big deal called welfare reform. Most US citizens on welfare considered any kind of work as something beneath their dignity. In other words, only an illegal would do. I threatened and warned them about non-compliance with not trying to get a job, and I was told by them that reality was they would not lose their welfare. They were right. They never lost it. But the welfare most people forget, and which is really draining our economy, and rewarding companies for outsourcing jobs to India and other such far away places, is corporate welfare. You won''t hardly hear a word about corporate welfare, which takes billions out of our pockets. - Reply to this comment
- I realize there is no point in explaining the facts to people who won''t listen, but I can try to simplify - LEGAL = WELFARE, ILLEGAL = WORK.
You want to solve America''s problems? Reform the welfare system that rewards certain citizens of our country and commonwealth with automatic welfare and civil service jobs. Go hang around your local social services department and note who is living off your taxes, both employees and benefit recipients. It sure ain''t illegals, they''re too busy cleaning tables and changing sheets because they have to buy food and pay rent. - Reply to this comment
- It doesn''''t matter how hard the little Mexican people work. TYhey work hard. so what. They''''re illegal and they''''re dumbing down wages. They''''re like scabs crossing a picket line. We will never get wages up with a continuous flood of cheap "hard working" labor streaming over the border. the employers of illegal labor have an unfair advantage over law abiding businesses. There is absolutely no reason to stop these raids.

Oh for P{ete''s sake! That''s not why wages are depressed! They''re depressed because of out-sourcing. They''re depressed because republican big businessmen have figure out that it''s a lot cheaper and more profitable to make crappy goods in China then to make good goods here in the US. If anything low cost labor from undocumented workers has been one of the very few bright spots in the American industrial outlook. It''s one of the only things that keeps us competitive on the world markets at all. If not for low paid undocumented workers our trade deficit would be even worse then it is. - Reply to this comment

- I am all for those people, and welcome them. those are the folks that made this country not freeloaders.
Posted by mo005 at 09:59 PM : Aug 16, 2007
First of all, you don''t know who is freeloading and who isn''t. In your racist mind, you imagine only brown "********" as freeloaders. They''re not. They work harder than you and for less pay. They get NO BENEFITS from the government, not even tax breaks, like you probably get. When you go to the store, and you see "********," you say to yourself, "I know they''re illegals and getting free government help." You see people in line outside of social services and you tell yourself the same thing. You tell yourself these stories and feed your racism. The facts are that most people who feed off social services are not aliens at all, they''re US citizens. And do you complain about the corporations that live off government welfare and hire these illegals? How about the corporate farms, which are the biggest drains on corporate welfare? Yet, here you are, so sure that it''s the "********" draining the system. You may earn more than me; goodness, there are people on SSI who earn more than me, but that''s all you got in your favor. - Reply to this comment
