Rescue of Six Men Trapped In Utah Mine Is Still Days Away
- Maria Buenrostro, the sister of trapped miner Manuel Sanchez, 41, said Murray got angry with relatives' questions and walked out. She also said there was no interpreter for three Spanish-speaking families.
Ahhhh maybe the INS could send someone to assit. - Reply to this comment
- Something seems fishy. almost like the owner knows he's be better off if none were rescued than to have to address responsibilty for the men or the mine's deficiences.

- Per USGS (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/uu00007535.php#summary):
"The United States Geological Survey recorded one seismic event with a magnitude of 3.9 at 02:48 AM MDT on August 6, 2007. This event did not have the characteristics of a typical, natural occurring earthquake. More work is being done to increase our understanding of what took place in Utah. The USGS works closely with the scientists at the University of Utah and is currently working with them on the continuing analysis of this seismic event." - Reply to this comment

I never claimed in my earlier comments I knew the cause of the collapse. What CBS her and the general media is ignoring (as they only reprint the same story) is there were 3 earlier quakes in the exact same spot but deeper below.
Yet, the media ignores this. Instead they are focusing on the aftershocks of the bigger quake to prove or disprove the bigger quake was a mine collapse or a natural earthquake.
See here for each quake located at "Mt. Pleasant, UT"
http://www.seis.utah.edu/recenteqs/Quakes/quakes0.html
There was a quake on:
Friday at 6.2 km depth
Sunday at 7.0 km
Sunday at 6.2 km - 7 hours before
Monday at 1.6 km at 3.9 magnitude - Mine Collapse
So smaller previous natural and deeper quakes could have caused the larger quake - attributed to either the mine collapsing or causing the mine to collapse.
This is ignored by the media - the 3 smaller deeper quakes - instead they focus on the aftershocks of the 3.9 magnitude quake and on smearing the Owner of the mine.
Liberal stupidity. You have independent facts easily available which could vindicate the owner's statements but ignored by CBS who instead decides to smear the owner by contending he may be incorrect in his assessment.
PER CBS, why is he incorrect? Because he's an active member of the GOP. He invokes God in his public statements. Because he produces coal - a carbon emitter for Global Warming.
Three strikes against him in the Liberal viewpoint. Thus he obviously must be a BIG LIAR. - Reply to this comment
- Ok, who is it that is running this rescue calling the shots looking out for the miners interest? Sorry but this mine owner does not appear to be capable are there not experts like the NTSB types for a mine cave in....

- From reading this blog, an extensive investigation is needed for this mine collapse. Physicists and Geologists are going to be needed to examine events before and after the mine collapse. This may provide an opportunity to examine the interaction between man made activity and natural occurances. Some interesting physics involving harmonic osciliations and materials characterists can be developed.
The result of this could prove to improve mine safety in the future.
This issue also raises again the safety of burying nuclear wastes in any type of rock formation. Research in this matter may help make better infrastructure for the safe disposal of nuclear wastes.
THIS IS NO TIME TO BLAME ANYONE. - Reply to this comment
- I wish for the best outcome possible for all involved and the brave miners. If the mine really is indeed still collapsing & seriously endangering the rescuers this will be a long ordeal.

- I am a geologist and obviously this mine owner is atttempting to blow smoke to avoid any liability should there be any. Earthquake my arse.

- The owner is only trying to shift liability BLAME from himself and company to a supposed quake causing the cave in- in other words an act of GOD, that would all but eliminate claims from lawsuits because neglect is one thing, a natural disaster murdering people caused by god is another thing.
god doesnt bless people, the lord doesnt help people, and prayers dont work.

- I hope the miners are all still alive and ok. My prayers are with the families.

- although the situation is bleak right now - maybe there is a miracle in the working and these guys are alive still. Let's all hope so.
My prayers are with them (even though some athiests think differently)
Sure would be nice to hear alot of "positive" thinking for these guys. Can't imagine what the families are going through - almost like those in Minneapolis still waiting to find their loved ones... been a sad month lately -
Seems to me that everyone is doing what they can despite the ranting of the owner. Of course he is scared - and should be BUT we have to remember that retaliation (monitarily) will only cause this mine to close and then we'll have a whole town almost unemployed - time to pull together and think positive and lets get these guys out. Find out later (if we can) what happened and then go from there. Right now - all that matters is getting them out. - Reply to this comment
- Proof- From Rasmussen Reports, the American people have spoken and this is what they agree on:
"Sunday, July 22, 2007
In the final poll of a series measuring perceptions of media bias, the Associated Press, local television stations, MSNBC, and CNBC are all perceived as tilting to the left when reporting the news.
Earlier releases showed that Americans tend to believe the major broadcast networks (CBS,NBC,ABC) CNN, and NPR have a liberal bias. Fox News is seen as having a bias in the other direction. In print, the New York Times, Washington Post, and local newspapers were also seen as having a liberal bias."
.....SO......when? is our liberal MSM wolfpack gong to implement "affirmative action" programs that include NOT EXCLUDE "moderates" and "conservative".
And we wonder why our corrupt liberal MSM wolfpack press hasn't had "big stories" reporting these opinions from the American public.
Gee.........I wonder why. - Reply to this comment

- According to the a looney right blogger the miners safety does not figure into the value added economic models as a vlaue plus.....so that would mean that unless their are massive fines for placing miners and workers at risk and unless and until it almighty buck in the greedy bucket it is not valued by these clowns. Same thing Iraq your paying for the soldier anyway who care if they are cared for after being wounded that would be less value, same thing infrastructure you have to pay the tax not matter if it benefits you or not so why not spend it on Iraq. Time for this crowd to be thrown in the garbage they are a threat to this country and peoples lives.
I hope this man is not the only one who is directing this rescue effort if it is local authority should intervene. - Reply to this comment
- The rescue attempt should be taken over by a state or federal authority, that doesn't have a conflict of interest. The mine owner appears to only be concerned about proving he shouldn't be sued. If the miners come up will they say they were ordered to take out all the coal in the pillars? Were the Mexican nationals legal worker? Could the miners suffocating below die with the only information that can point to the cause? The owner should be out of there.

- The whole mormon cracks come on not everyone that live in Utah are mormon!!!! I do not understand why people are making it an issue. This is about 6 miners who are trapped and their friends and families who are praying they come out of this alive. Then you get some people on here that have no clue what it feels like to have someone close to them in danger of loosing their lives or has lost their lives. But these are good people and these are people from very small towns and everyone knows everyone no matter what race ,*** or religion you belong to. They do not care they are loving to everyone. Please remember that when you feel like pointing fingers placing blame. NO ONE KNOWS!!!
