As a blind and multi handicapped person I felt it best not to bring a child in to the world that I could NOT take care of. Years ago had my tubes fixed for health reasons. Just cos a woman can have children does not means she should. That is not being selfish. Babies very costly. They ARE demaning at times. 17 IS TOO MANY. It is not fair to the other kids to raise their brothers and sisters while Mummy Dearest is hooked on having baby after baby . 2 or 3 children can be taught to share. There should be a limit on the number of children today.
This is still America, right? These people are self sufficient, law abiding citizens. Yet they are attacked for having a large family.
What I think is ridiculous is the attitude of so many people here criticizing them.
Obviously they make money from the show they do on Discovery Health, as well as from the father's job. And they are debt free. How many of you people can say that?
I think children in large families are much better off than those in small ones. They learn to share with and to respect others. They have to learn these things. They are less selfish than children from small families because the world doesn't revolve around the child.
I think what is crazy is that we put people down for this.

Brea[st] feeding is not a form of birth control. Just ask any woman who has ever conceived while nursing. Just because your periods are normally blocked while nursing, it does not mean you are not ovulating!
I'm surprised this woman hasn%u2019t gotten "cervical cancer" by now, from all the multiple births in repetition.
Having children one right after the other is not healthy and will only cause complications later on.

It is impossible to give these many children adequate psychological nurturing, so I'm guessing the older children have served as surrogates.

Each of these parents has a HIGH SCHOOL education. It would be a challenge for a professional to feed, clothe, educate and give quality time to this brood. Will any of the children be able to go to college?
Where is the money coming from? I know the house was an "Extreme Makeover", but I can't begin to imagine how they paid the taxes on it.
Many of you must not realize that many Americans have families just as large as this and they do not have homes nearly as big at the Duggars. However, their children are cared for. My own grandparents had 15 children. As someone who has miscarried four times in the last year and have yet to be able to carry a baby, I think this is a great story. If they want to have 25 kids and have the financhial means to do so, then so be it. It is nobody's business but theirs and GODs. By the way, comparing children to animals is just stupid.
