I'm with you on this radio, It looks like the media has made a mistrial quite possible by publishing all these facts.

some of the comments coming on here today make me worried to leave the house..
socialized medicine will provide care to help prevent mass murder??
screw the rich?? (That's so compassionate).
I am most concerned about the comments from the "professionals" who profess amazement that career criminals might be ready to take the next step into violent crime to feed whatever voracious appitite for lust and property they may have."gee, they haven't done this, and all the research we've talked about at all of our taxpayer-funded conferences at expensive resort hotels sure didn't have us seeing this coming..uh-huk!"
Maybe, maybe if the beaurocrats got out from behind their taxpayer-funded wood panelec desks and got a clue as to what is happening outside their country-club and expensive lunch world,we might not have characters like these running amok, putting the rest of us in danger.

This is such a sad horrific story. Lately it seems there are so many stories of violence against women--it has become an epidemic but this story is truly one of the worst.

Both men deserve the death penalty.

The newspaper CBS and any other media that is reporting the rape of the victims have very poor taste and a total disregard for the family that has to endure not only the loss of their love ones but now this. Another invasion into their privacy in a time of mourning. Very poor taste this is not a tabloid magazine.

What I'm wondering is at what point does a repeat offender need to be brought to his senses? After the third time? Maybe wait till the seventh time?
It should be obvious that after a certain number of times these folks should be deemed mentally ill. By repeating an offense they've made it very clear they don't care to be part of society.
For some reason they detest society so much they feel they have a right to inflict some damage to it.
We need to make it clear to them that if they exceed a number of infractions they're going to get it bad.

I'm having trouble understanding this...someone please enlighten me. The bank called the police and would have told them the Petit's address. The man stopped to get gas, raped the women repeatedly, and set fire to the house after the withdrawal? What were the police doing all that time? Why wouldn't Ms. Petit tell the bank more info if the man was waiting outside?

didntinhale said: "Would be nice though if we concentrated more of our efforts on treatment when their children and young adults instead of going on with our current failing system."

That money's gone to tax cuts and Iraq. So we'll just have to deal with the murderers in our midst. As I say, you don't have to look far (Canada, France, Australia, England, Germany, etc, etc) to see societies as wealthy as the U.S. with MUCH lower incarceration rates. This society is killing itself slowly. And all GunOwnerDan has to say about it is, 'better to shoot bullets than catch them'.

GunOwnerDan : Dude do you ever talk about anything but guns. I'm all for gun owners rights but you run it straight into the ground. Sometimes things like this happens and the people didn't or couldn't get to a gun in time. but every posting you write is nothing but the same ole same ole. IF they had a gun, IF they had proper training, IF is a big word in that situation. Don't take it the wrong way I do agree with everything you have said , but kind mix it up a bit if you can.

Crimes like these are not about economics or ***, they are about power! These two were used to robbing houses and decided to up it a notch. I am willing to bet there are things in thier past that would lead them to make poor choices, however, once an adult there is NEVER an excuse for doing things like this! And I speak as a person who has been there and had to make those choices. These two deserve to be jailed because of the choice them made. I pray for those women who were violently assaulted and cowardly killed. These men really are just pathetic excuses of humankind. Somewhere down the line someone failed somehow and this is what they turned into. I feel for the families of all the people involved, victims and the crimanals. May all thier souls rest in peace now.

Adults who are capable of being responsible with a deadly weapon should consider getting a gun and learning how to use it properly and safely.
Get trained and practice regulary.
It could very well save your life one day!
If you have kids in the home, there are options available to have your gun loaded and in a safe place that can be easily and quickly retrieved in an emergency. Some new gun safes can be opened with your fingerprints, for example.

"I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand."
-- Susan B. Anthony

"We live in a world where more and more women are unaccompanied at odd hours, or they are vulnerable in dangerous places - a world where restraining orders are often ineffective and the police cannot be counted upon to arrive in time, if at all. In such a world, women must be able to protect themselves. In terms of both deterrence and lethal force, guns are among the most effective tools available for self-defense."
-- Mary Zeiss Stange, "Guns, like abortion, are a matter of choice"

"In being confronted by the reality that government cannot and will not guarantee my personal safety, I am infinitely thankful, both as a woman and an American, that the Bill of Rights still guarantees my right to defend myself with a gun. Any true feminist must support this position. Any woman who claims to be a feminist, but who supports disarmament of law-abiding citizens is simply a dangerous hypocrite."

This IS about economics, and the rage of being in the permanent underclass. A massive fraction of America is in prison, compared to other, more equitable societies. Figure it out.

America is in a slow burn, after 25 years of Reaganomics. Pretend all you want, go live in a gated community. Things are going to get a LOT worse before they get better.

Still, the two perps should fry. Natch.

jrr4christ- what about the estimated 50,000 to 80,000 people burned alive, hung, horse-whipped and whatever by christians because they were supposedly witches and caused bad weather and plagues. Is that jesus in the classroom and courtroom enough for you?

You folks already basically tax deduct your religion (I'm sure there are no tither cheaters here) and then want pople who don't buy your brand of God to burn. A lot of people don't agree with you or your brand of injustice.

Meanwhile I'm sure everything would have been OK if they had just had a gun at this house-- how do we know they didn't have a gun. And, of course, the house invaders had a gun they bought just for this horror, even though it was nearly a toy it frightened the family enough where they were too afraid to do otherwise.

I've been robbed at gun point and it happened so fast it wouldn't have mattered if I had had 5 guns. If I had tried to pull a gun I would be dead now and Gunownerdan would be pleased. Well I had a gun pointed to the back of my had, lost $7 and a set of car keys and lived to tell about it.

I agree with shutUPfreak. This has nothing to do with economics. Hard work and ambition will make you successful. Every society has its losers. These two guys are part of that sad pathetic club. I hope they get life in prison and all of their fellow inmates find out what they did. That will be worse than death.

Chilling...absolutely chilling. The truth is, is that under the right circumstances this could have been any one of us. You may have a gun and know how to use it, but there are dozens of times each day when it is not accessible to you. And if you have children, the social pressure to have it in a safe place that they can't get to it is a concern. These people were stalked coming out of a store---something that we all do and most never think twice about someone watching you with the intent of murdering you. Having your guard up 24 hours a day waiting to shoot someone who *might* be after you just isn't possible--you would be a nervous wreck and could not enjoy life at all. Like it or not, if someone sets their sights on you specifically, there are plenty of opportunities to catch you unaware---whether you choose to admit it or not. Hindsight is always 20/20. No one can predict what would or could happen in this kind of situation. We'd like to think we would do everything right, but in the confusion and terror who knows what will happen. I consider myself a liberal, but I do support the death penalty, especially in cases like these. I have children myself, and I do wish that these monsters could be let out into a crowd of citizens who could tear them apart with their bare hands.

The sad fact is throughout history there have always been evil doers, madmen, mad women, mental defectives, and criminals.

This is a horrendous story, I wish I hadn't read it.
